During the demobilisation process it became evident that even up to 1998 boys and girls aged 10 to 18 were forced to perform military service or paramilitary activities in the zones controlled by the Khmer Rouge. They were typically forced to join by being deprived of food and supplies. . In 1975, Pol Pot’s army, the Khmer Rouge, took over Cambodia and attempted to enforce an extreme Maoist communist regime, replacing all that went before. Their regime was murderous and, over the next four years, over 1 million Cambodians were killed and up to another 2 million died from starvation or exhaustion. The Khmer Rouge emptied the cities of people, forcing everyone to live off the land. Professionals, those who knew a foreign language and, at one time, even those who wore glasses were murdered. Diluting the ghore, bloodshed & monstrosity would have been a disservice. 👎 Thankfully this movie doesn’t spare any of it. Attending a special screening of Bastar - The Naxal Story was a shocking experience. The makers have left no stone unturned in trying to push the boundaries of what can be shown on screen. Definitely not for the faint hearted, but a must watch for those who might want to come as close as possible to expriencing the horrors of red terror without actually being at the scene of crime. The fact that everything in the film is inspired by true events, from the brutality of Naxals on tribals who they claim to fight for…. to the left-liberal nexus across Media, Judiciary, NGOs who take the cover of the same human rights & democracy that they want to destroy, this film attempts to address all the angles involved in one of the biggest security threats our country faces at the hands of an ideology 🔴 responsible for millions of deaths worldwide. The story is kind of linear but you’d be missing the point if that’s what you expect from movies such as Bastar. VFX is mostly good except an instance or two. The acting is great and the characters manage to create a connection with you. Shoutout to Sudipto Sen Sunshine Pictures Pvt. Ltd. and team for achieving a great product that not only addresses the topic but is also a good film with good lighting, acting, colors, VFX, cinematography etc, something that’s rather rare for Indian films made on social topics.
