Meer Kanjer, another one of our brave heroes. Kanjer had cancer in his eye, and with your donations we were able to completely cover all expenses for his surgery in Nov 2017. Unfortunately, the cancer soon spread and attacked his other eye making him blind, along with stealing his hearing. The vet said it would only be a matter of time before it attacked his brain since it traveled through the optic nerve. With how quickly the cancer spread, Jeremy, Kanjer's handler, made the tough decision to honor Kanjer, his services and sacrifices, by putting him to sleep, so he wouldn’t suffer. Igor was shot in his leg while on active duty and retired after his leg had to be amputated. Then, in 2018, he was hit by a car. He had a broken leg and was partially paralyzed. That’s it! 22 years serving and that’s a wrap. The Army and I have officially parted ways. It’s been an amazing experience that took me all over the US and the world. I’ve seen Iraq, Afghanistan, and Japan because of my time in. I was honored to serve with amazing men and women from the 82nd Military Police company for the invasion of Iraq in 03 and again for their first election in 04. I served the CalGuard and deployed to Afghanistan with truly the best group of Misfits a leader could ask for and with a leader who would become my best friend. I was honored to serve as several companies First Sergeant in the amazing 445 Civil Affairs Battalion. I worked with truly amazing and selfless leaders in the BN and the 364th CA Brigade. The Army allowed me to get my BS and MS. I jumped out of airplanes and helicopters. I’ve been blown up and shot at. I have learned leadership skills found nowhere else. The ability to serve my nation and fellow Americans has given me a truly deep sense of satisfaction and purpose. I wish I could thank everyone individually who has made this journey better and more enjoyable. Thank you everyone, Soldiers and fellow Paratroopers, who either led and developed me or allowed me to lead them. Thank you to my friends who supported me and my family who encouraged me. Thank you to my sons, @trevor_hampel and @zakhampel who looked up to me and made me want to be the man they thought I was. ..5 years ago on this day! Reflecting on this photo from my army days five years ago, I once equated being fit with being healthy. Little did I know, true well-being goes beyond physical appearance. Transitioning to today, I look younger and more vibrant, thanks to a shift in priorities towards my overall wellbeing. Now, incorporating a liquid multivitamin into my daily routine and cleansing my body has become essential. What I once deemed normal, like irregular bowel movements, turned out to be signs of underlying health issues. It's incredible how dedicating time to prioritize my well-being has reversed the aging process, both inside and out. To all my beautiful sisters, particularly my fellow military sisters, I want to share a message: life after the ARMY is just the beginning! Our brave supported hero, Max, crossed the rainbow bridge in 2020. Max was one of our longest supported heroes, all the way back to 2013, before we were even officially recognized by the State of Texas. Here are some words from Mary, Max's mom, at his time of passing: “It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the passing of CWD Max EDD (Ret.). He was one of Gizmo's Supported War dogs since 2013. He passed peacefully in my arms on 23 January 2020 from several age-related illnesses. He was my heart dog and I will miss him forever. He is on duty now at the Rainbow Bridge. He is gone but I will never forget him. Love you big boy. Run free.” Max, you will forever be in our hearts. Hello farm friends we had a great opportunity to meet students and teachers from the Montessori School of Northern Virginia during their visit to the Lowcountry through the Nobis Project in Savannah Georgia. They are from the Annandale Virginia area where we once live while stationed at the Military District of Washington, Fort Myers and Fort McNair. While here we took a walk around the property and pointed out the flora and fauna in the wood line, introduced them to our farm animals, and encouraged everyone to taste and smell the herbs in our raised demonstration beds. From lemon grass, sage, oregano and mint to recognizing rosemary and lemon trees. A walk near the bees in our orchard was followed by a meal of vegan curry served with fresh baked rosemary olive oil bread. The opportunity to chat with the teachers over lunch and exchange ideas was a exciting and we look forward to future conversations and collaborations. We had a great conversation about camping adventures in various locations and the outdoor education courses we offer and they have attended. Super engaging talks.
