Crossing off sites on the @floridabirdingtrail and decided to hike Hal Scott this morning. Skating Blackwater Heritage State Trail 🛼 The distance of this trail depends on where you end, but the state park site says the trail is 8.1 miles one way. We did the full trail plus the extra couple miles attached known as “The Military Trail”. The trail is fine in quality but kinda just plain. A lot of it was in the woods, but some of the trail cuts into the town of Milton where you have to cross a busy intersection. Nothing too special about the trail or scenic. There were some mulberry bushes …but that’s about it. It’s still a decent skate trail and has a little visitor center. There was a guy screaming at us at the Milton trailhead calling us names and telling us to leave…kinda scary! The last 1.5 miles near the military base was not high in quality…lots of bumps. Though the majority of the state designated trail was good quality on rollerskates! We were able to reach about 12 mph at one section, but mainly averaged around 9.3. It is a popular cyclist trail so remember to watch for them passing. Also, it has signs where sections are designated for equestrians. I really wanted to see a Scrub Jay so I took a ride up to Lyonia Nature Preserve since they maintain the birds natural habitat. I was immediately greeted by one! The butterfly pictured is actually the TN state butterfly. The Eastern Towhee did its best to hide but I snagged a shot. There were so many more birds that I couldn’t get pictures of. The most incredible lifer we witnessed while visiting the Dry Tortugas was definitely this Antillean nighthawk! We were with a group of birders that were pointing out a variety of warblers when this unique bird quietly swooped in right over our heads into this big gumbo limbo to take a rest. Perched so elegantly, all of us could not grasp what we just saw & everyone moved into position to take a gander at this beautiful species. As about 10-15 of us birders sat shoulder to shoulder in a tight circle to get a glimpse through the tree limbs, I snapped as many shots as a I could while a man next to me with a spotting scope was figuring out what type of nighthawk this was, it did not take long for him to shout out "It's an Antillean!!" to the group as everyone became overjoyed! We all sat there for a number of minutes admiring this breathtaking sighting before the nighthawk swiftly flew away to a different part of the fort that was off limits to visitors. It's almost the weekend, and here are some of my favorite 🚶♀️hiking trails around Tampa. ❓Do you have any special plans this weekend? 'm heading to Moccasin Lake Nature Park in Clearwater on Saturday for their 🌿Earth Day 🥳celebration. Sunday I'll be out hiking somewhere though I'm not sure where yet. Ежегодно две трети урожая страны составляют цитрусовые, собранные в рощах Флориды. 🍊А ещё!!! Всё дело в том, что именно с этим сочным фруктом связана история основания главного курорта Америки. В конце XIX века в небольшом поселении Майами-Вилладж (Майамская деревня) жила апельсиновая плантаторша Джулия Татл. Она долго уговаривала своего флоридского соседа- железнодорожного магната Генри Флаглера (который жил к северу от Татл, во городе Палм-Бич)- провести железную дорогу к тому месту, где она жила.
