I was looking at some seriously cool fossils during a snack break on a meandering hike with @raymondsadventures, when he suddenly ran 10 ft away and peered through his binoculars for a second before shouting, “You probably need to get over here!” There was an American Goshawk in a ponderosa across Cienega canyon, hopping around and after a moment giving us a stunning view of their gorgeous profile. We were flabbergasted. Such a lucky sighting - we would’ve missed the goshawk if we hadn’t been sitting around eating chocolate 😅 Later on we also saw two Broad-winged Hawks, which are one of my very favorite birds and rare for NM. Sandia Prep 2024 senior, Daniela, is here to bring in the weekend with her sweet smile. I met Daniela and her mom for an early November session. The fall colors were a gorgeous mix of greens, yellows, and browns that complimented Daniela’s beautiful red hair and fair complexion perfectly. As a busy and very involved young lady both in school and in life outside of school, Daniela enjoys being on the swim team and mock trial, as well as camping and hiking with family and friends. ‘Anything outdoors is fun’! Her love of nature was evident as she excitedly scaled an old cottonwood tree and smiled for some photos while perched above the ground. Daniela’s favorite subject is English. Her advice to underclassmen is ‘Don’t freak out! Set short term and long term goals for yourself. That helps me a lot, not just with school but everything!’ Some of her favorite memories have been getting to travel with her friends and family! While contemplating her future, she shares ‘I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up but I plan on majoring in English. I can’t decide if I want to go to law school yet. It’s a very real possibility for me.’ This session gave me warm fuzzies. Daniela was shy and quiet and unaware of how she’d look in photos that were focused solely on her. She trusted me to bring her out of her shell and her smile just stole the show! Well, that and her beautiful head of crimson locks.
