Sono bastate poche righe delle prime pagine per ritrovarmi a rivivere le scene pecc@minose e lu$$uriose di questo bellissimo film. Un film che difficilmente ci si dimentica. Anche per il libro è stato così. Una Vienna seducente, una notte proibita, sono le scene iniziali che ci presenta Schnitzler in questo meraviglioso racconto. Una storia dai tratti onirici-reali-surreali. Al ritorno da una festa, la vita tranquilla di una famiglia borghese, viene completamente messa in discussione, svelando una facciata ingannevole di una realtà che si rivela illusoria. Stanley Kubrick (1928-1999) - marker - digital color - 14”x 17” - Maybe this is blasphemy, but I find “2001 A Space Odyssey” boring. It’s a masterpiece, fo sure. But a lot of it seems like a brochure for a space vacation. Like here’s the Hilton you’ll be staying in. And look, it has a Howard Johnson’s. It’s only in the last twenty minutes that Kubrick seems to remember the plot. And please don’t ask me what that plot is. Some dude goes through a monolith and turns into a space baby. Kubrick was a perfectionist and was meticulous about every aspect of his films. He insisted on shooting all of Barry Lyndon’s 18th century interiors by candlelight. Kubrick only made thirteen films. He’d spend years researching them and almost longer making them. Sometimes shooting up to 127 takes for one shot. And I don’t think he was a lot of fun to work with either. Poor Shelley Duvall. He almost gave her a nervous breakdown filming “The Shining”. Kubrick was a famous asshole. He would call collaborators at all hours, never considering any time changes. I’m sure after months of that, folks would just let him go right to voicemail. He was born in Manhattan. His father was a physician, so he grew up with money and privilege. He did horribly in school. Often, not even going. He was given his first camera at thirteen and would start his career as a photographer for Look magazine. He went on to film documentary shorts financed by family members like his poor uncle who owned a pharmacy. None of his feature films made much money and were often poorly reviewed. His legend seems to be built largely on controversy, technical achievement and hindsight. He only won one Oscar and that was for visual effects. Still, think of the movies. Lolita, Clockwork Orange, Dr Strangelove, 2001, The Shining. A primeira vez que vi esse filme na TV eu, um adolescente sem base nenhuma, não entendi nada. Com a leitura do livro, as coisas ficaram mais claras. São 4 grandes momentos na obra. Primeiro, a narrativa dos hominídeos lutando pela vida e tendo contado com o misterioso monolito que muda o destino da humanidade. Quando ela termina você quer que o livro todo seja sobre isso. Aí vamos para um futuro não tão distante e já no passado onde temos viagens espaciais e ocupação da lua numa escala muito otimista. Aqui outro monolito é descoberto e emite um sinal, e isso leva à terceira parte, a famosa viagem com astronautas e uma IA, o HALL 9000. Esta parte é um thriller psicológico no espaço, onde o robô passa por uma crise psicótica. Depois que este ciclo acaba, vamos para a quarta parte, o contato de Dave com a civilização alienígena que criou os monolitos. Apesar da ideia de contato entre humanos pré-históricos e aliens tenha se tornado tema dos piores divulgadores de teorias da conspiração (sim, cabeludo do history channel, eu te odeio), o livro trabalha bem com o tema, Clarke conta muito bem a história, os eventos que acontecem no espaço são de tirar o fôlego.
