Think about what you actually say, things like ‘I always do that!’ Ummmmm.... do you actually ‘always’ do that or do you ‘sometimes’ do that, or is the truth you have only really done it once!! go on be honest you're not alone!!....there can be a huge difference in what we say and what actually happened! Japanese Adventures: Part 14 Itinerary: Hiroshima Memorial Museum, Shukkien Gardens, Sadako, Peace Bell Takeaways 1. Ailyn "it was really interesting but very sad. I learnt that Sadako was very brace and in life you need more help then you really think. That Sadako had a lot of love from her parents and classmates." 2. Evie "Sadako's bed was filled with teenie little cranes, I wasn't expecting them to be that small. Sadako had lots of pretty flowers. It was really sad that there were really big bombs that made a lot of people very sick. It was kind that people made paper cranes to her." 3. Noah "Although world peace is hard to achieve yet possible, everybody deserves a chance to love peacefully. It was really sad that these weapons exist. The buildings hold a symbol for peace in the future. Folding paper cranes are hard. The city now is really beautiful." 4. The Gardens and memorial statues are just beautiful. The flame in memory of all the people who were affected by this devastating event and how moving forward in peace and unity is the focus for this beautiful part of the world. 5. There's an incredible statue that really resonated with me; the teacher and her student. That against all, regardless of injury and pain, her students were her priority 💔. 6. Cranes are placed here all over the world as a symbol of peace and hope for the future. We laid a few in the thousands in hope for a bright and beautiful future for our children. Despite the confronting, yet respectfully presented museum we had a lovely day exploring and reflecting on this region in the beautiful sunlight. We believe it's important to share events of the world with our kids and are beyond proud of their comments, thoughts and reflections. It was a simple story born during my summer walk. After multiple revisions, I dared to submit it to one magazine and received a prompt rejection. I reworked, changed words, looked for adverbs, cleaned up my punctuation, and sent a more confident story to another magazine. Sure enough, this magazine sent in a tiered rejection. Although my heart broke, there was also a flicker of hope. So, I reworked it after sending it to two beta readers, incorporated some suggestions, whetting it a lot more. Little did I know then that I had embarked on a journey that would take me on a roller coaster ride twenty more times. After twenty-four rejections, more whetting, one more beta reading, and more cleaning, the story will finally see light. So, never give up. Believe in the story you want to tell. My toxic trait is expecting to nail it on the first go. I want my first drafts to look like polished, edited, published masterpieces. No, I don’t necessarily mean perfectionism. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it has to be damn good though. At some point early in life, I began to equate talent with excellence. Talent implied being a natural—things came easily, without effort, and you were perceived as superior to those who had to exert themselves. While I didn’t (and don’t) shy away from doing the hard work, it just knocks down my confidence when my achievements are the results of effort. It makes me question myself and wonder if it is even ‘worth’ pursuing since I 'am not good and lack talent’. Wild right? Instead of being proud of the outcome, embracing the journey, and having pride in the hard work & commitment put in, I feel disappointed that it doesn't ‘come naturally’. Or worse yet, I don’t even continue the pursuit. The stories we tell ourselves are critical in determining our outcomes and success. Whether it is self-fulfilling prophecies where we're more likely to act in ways that align with those beliefs, the mindset we have adopted, our perception of what failure means which could limit our growth or lead us to avoidant behaviors, or how we cultivate resilience -- our internal narratives and beliefs have the power to shape our lives. By consciously shaping our internal narratives to be empowering, optimistic, and growth-oriented, we can unlock our full potential and create the outcomes and success we desire. And by the way, in case you are wondering.... talent is not an indicator or criteria for success. According to Angela Duckworth, “As much as talent counts, effort counts twice” and “Without effort, your talent is nothing more than unmet potential. Without effort, your skill is nothing more than what you could have done but didn't.”
