A warm and sincere thank you to all those who attended our 32nd Annual Meeting last night. The evening was truly inspiring, with over 100 CDP supporters and friends gathering to celebrate our work and partnerships over the past year. Our keynote speaker, Ed Augustus, the Commonwealth's Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities, shared the Healey-Driscoll Administration's plans for unprecedented investments in housing production and new policy initiatives to help our communities address the housing affordability crisis. We presented our annual community awards to recognize outstanding service to our community. Michelle Jarusiewicz received the Gwen Pelletier Award for Community Service, while Kate Escher-Jacob and Lizzy Escher, founders of ARTichoke in Eastham, received the Norm Edinberg Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship. Additionally, we elected new Board Members and Officers, updated our by-laws, and thanked the outgoing CDP Board Chair Steve Cole, and Board members Jen Cusack and Marin Reinhardt for their significant contributions to our organization. Your presence and support are invaluable to us. These 3 little ones just passed the 2-year anniversary with their amazing guardian Wendy! As part of our placement (adoption) process, we check in regularly with our parrot guardians to make sure the birds are doing well and to provide support if needed. Wendy has been the best guardian a bird could ask for! She says, "All 3 just love baths! They have their own 'spa' and enjoy their flight time and bath time. For the most part they spend all day out flying and foraging with the various toys in the room. At night they all go back to their own little spots inside their cage and snuggle. All three have learned so much and while Pablo is the only speaker the rest has learned: perch, come here, step up, step down, want treat? And kisses." Wendy has faced challenges as all parrot guardians do, but with patience and understanding of parrot behavior she's been able to form strong relationships with her birds - and allowed them to form those relationships with each other! When asked "What is something your birds have taught you about yourself?" Wendy said, "The importance of selflessly caring for animals and birds through routine and patience. Birds and animals have so much to teach us. About love, friendship, care and they give us this without expectations of any kind. They teach me to be present and more kind and loving to myself and those around me. They provide me with such peace and therapy." Happy anniversary, friends! I am a bit on edge. ㅤ But you know what has been KEY in keeping it all together?
