We had these two yesterday and I’m excited to share JOSIE has gained two pounds since her hospital stay last week!! She had a lil meltdown and decided she wanted her mommy last night . So on the way home she shared her feeling about everything going on , and she said she just wanted to be grown up so she wouldn’t cry so much . 😟 Oh my heart , I feel like her anxiety is peaked right now although she looks so much healthy already ! Keep praying for this lil girl and her family and everyone is struggling, understandably. 🙏 My reading yesterday and today gives me some comfort. In the crazy of family struggles and personal pain, I find comfort in the concept of sustaining grace. The verse from 2 Corinthians 12:9 in the NIV version reminds me, 'My grace is sufficient for you.' This grace comes in two forms: saving grace, wiping away sins, and sustaining grace, helping us endure trials. I find reassurance in the belief that God's grace can sustain us through dark times. He provides the strength we need to face each day. It’s difficult to admit such thoughts because as a Christian, I know that God is working in my trials and I do believe he has a purpose. But there are days when I struggle to see beyond the pain and, in my humanity, my present feelings cloud my eternal perspective. Some days – I want to be rescued, rather than sustained. I want relief now. He Meets Us There But it never fails, when my heart grows weary and I feel like giving up the fight, the Spirit draws near, carries me through those moments, and as I cry out to him, gradually infuses me with a fresh sense of hope and perseverance to trust the One who rules over the length and heat of the fire. He did that for me today as I re-read Proverbs 17:3 – “Gold is put in the fire because it is gold.” It sounds so – obvious. But it holds far more meaning than it may seem at face value. You and I are not in the fire to be burned, but to be refined. And he only refines his treasures – that which carries great value and worth in his eyes. Yes, to be rescued would be temporary relief, but to be refined is a lasting blessing that cannot be lost or taken when the next fire comes. Friend, have you prayed for a miracle and wonder why God has allowed your trial to continue? Have you seen other’s situations improve while yours only seem to worsen? Remember this – God only refines that which he loves. And to add insult to injury, the enemy often unleashes on those whom God sees worth refining because they are a greater threat to him than those who are drunk with comfort. If God rescues you (which he sometimes does), it shows the world his power to change circumstances at his word. It was a hybrid event with our Board chair, cluster staff and some hospital staff also joining online. The day was filled with presentations from all teams, spotlighting the significant achievements of the past five years, along with some reminiscing and reflection on the journey thus far. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Max Lucado NOTE: I’ve thought about the word ‘grace’ lately. Some explain grace means the ability to move in a smooth manner that is pleasing to watch. During my swimming workouts I’ve noticed Rico performing interval exercises on a mat besides the pool, which included jump roping. Her agile jumping made me admire her flowing effort and I complimented her. She thanked me and said at first the sessions were messy; she’d get tangled up with the rope and had to stop quickly, or got discouraged during the other portions. She hadn’t noticed how much she progressed until I said something to her. She felt determined to make a healthy change and she’s glad she stuck with it. I’ve thought about the spiritual connotation of grace - God’s unmerited favor that connects with us during our messiness and helps us with the flow of life. Sometimes we feel ready to give up, but the Holy Spirit keeps circling around to give us more chances. “…‘Everyone loves the grace that delivers us. But the Israelites, like us, were dissatisfied with daily manna. We all complain about the grace that merely sustains us’. We all complain about sustaining grace. The truth of it hit me hard….were my prayers for deliverance answered with the gift of sustenance? Do I not see that this was an answer, too?” I am incredibly grateful for the wisdom and comfort @vaneetharisner shares in her book, ‘The Scars that have Shaped Me: How God meets us in suffering’, swipe to see my well-worn/loved, and entirely marked up copy in the last photo. She coined this phrase, ‘God’s sustaining grace’, that I speak about over and over again…I just didn’t have a name for it. It’s the answer to the question I’ve asked my husband time and again when we finally reach 10pm at night and the kids are in bed, and we breathe for the first time all day and I ask, “How in the world did we make it here (the end of our day)? After a day chock-full of real-life, down and dirty hard stuff…the hard stuff we hope most families never have to live through. Things like reorganizing your whole being to keep your child from suicide attempts and unsafe behaviors, over and over again. Day after day. It’s the answer to the question our small group friends ask us, “How do you guys do this everyday? And still wake up and praise God and manage to smile and be nice to people?” His sustaining grace. Today, I opened my nature journal from last year and read the story I had captured about my “magical encounter” with several dragonflies. Like many days then and now, it started off h.a.r.d. and I was searching for something, anything beautiful to pick me up. Enter God’s sustenance. He knew I would appreciate this dragonfly encounter. I had recently completed my 9 month master naturalist program and nature is one way I breathe in His goodness and find peace….sustenance. This story was the perfect example of His sustaining grace. And now that I have a name for it, I look forward to sharing it with others so we can all see how He sustains us in these small, intimate and personal ways. What a good, good father he is. 🤍

Over 50 representatives from supporting partners of different countries, board members and friends from other institutions and INGOs in Nepal participated in the important event (held every two years), with others joining the livestream online. The Assembly highlighted UMN’s current work and future plans including four new videos of our cross-cutting themes, stalls displaying community development and hospital work in eight districts, plans for launching work in two new districts and discussion on creation care, decolonisation of aid and faith and development. We celebrate the work which has been possible in recent years and the UMN family and partnerships which allow us to keep reaching the most marginalised communities to bring fullness of life for all. There’s a promise, deep in the O.T. book of Isaiah, that Jesus echoes to the woman at the well…and it changes everything when my own soul is weary or dry: “The LORD will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” [Isaiah 58:11] Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water (Jacob’s well), will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I give will never be thirst again. The water I give will become a fresh bubbling spring within them giving them eternal life.” [Gospel of John 4:13-14] When i struggle with discouragement, or what the future may hold, there is always this sustaining grace. It’s difficult to admit such thoughts because as a Christian, I know that God is working in my trials and I do believe he has a purpose. But there are days when I struggle to see beyond the pain and, in my humanity, my present feelings cloud my eternal perspective. Some days – I want to be rescued, rather than sustained. I want relief now. And yet, he meets us there. It never fails, when my heart grows weary and I feel like giving up the fight, the Spirit draws near, carries me through those moments, and as I cry out to him, gradually infuses me with a fresh sense of hope and perseverance to trust the One who rules over the length and heat of the fire. He did that for me today as I re-read Proverbs 17:3 – “Gold is put in the fire because it is gold.” It sounds so – obvious. But it holds far more meaning than it may seem at face value. You and I are not in the fire to be burned, but to be refined. And he only refines his treasures – that which carries great value and worth in his eyes. Yes, to be rescued would be temporary relief, but to be refined is a lasting blessing that cannot be lost or taken when the next fire comes. Friend, have you prayed for a miracle and wonder why God has allowed your trial to continue? Have you seen other’s situations improve while yours only seem to worsen? Remember this – God only refines that which he loves. And to add insult to injury, the enemy often unleashes on those whom God sees worth refining because they are a greater threat to him than those who are drunk with comfort. If God rescues you (which he sometimes does), it shows the world his power to change circumstances at his word. Whenever you feel that things are heavy and the burden is too much for you– remember that you don't have to carry it by yourself. This is your reminder that God Himself is carrying you in His arms daily. You may feel alone and overwhelmed, but know that behind what you can see is a God who gives you grace and strength to keep going. Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. (Psalm 68:19) I pray that whatever burden you are carrying today, this reminder will bring you the comfort and encouragement that you need. He carries you, moment by moment. ❤️
