Variegated rubber tree? Yes, please. This leafy ‘Ruby’ is even more of a gem than an actual ruby — certainly when it comes to your home and garden. We have two looks for ya: (1) up close and (2) pulled back. The glossy (that gloss, tho!) ovate leaves of Ficus elastica 'Ruby' flaunt a delicious rose-red tint as well as pink, dark green, and cream. Precise coloring will vary, depending on light and care. Find your ficus a nice spot bathed in bright but indirect light. This will help maintain the vibrant variegation. While the plant will do fine with less light, the leafy party will dim some. ‘Ruby’ prefers the soil to be consistently slightly moist and is very much not a fan of soggy feet. One clue that you could be overwatering is if leaves turn yellow and drop, particularly those that aren’t the oldest. Keeping your space in the 60-to-80-degree range will please ‘Ruby’, as will humidity elevated a bit above average levels. A humidifier, grouping plants, and a pebble tray are some of the ways, in combination or solo, to make ‘Ruby’ feel as if it’s residing in a tropical forest. Like virtually any rubber plant, this variegated ficus carries with it some serious growth potential, possibly reaching ceiling level in time. You can control this trajectory with a conservative repotting schedule or pruning.

Fatsia Spiders Web.🕸 I've fancied this for several years but didn't think I had the right place for it. So here it is adjacent to the existing (regular) fatsia with just a bird bath atop an ivy covered chimney pot between them. It will brighten up a very dark, shady corner & compliment the icy green/white lamium to the left. We've also sited the mossy stone lion. 🦁 Residing in my mother in law's garden for many years, I have always been very fond of it. I am now it's custodian & will take very good care of him. 🥰 The weather was on our side today & lots of various 'stuff' was achieved, not least the first feed of all my hostas. Absolute favourite herb: Mother of Herbs (Coleus amboinicus). Love it for the wonderful fresh-forest smell when you brush against the leaves. Often seen as a ground cover or hanging basket but grown here as an aromatic green wall on an open-sided perogola (pic2), trained up a 2m high trellis of chicken wire. Took about 2 years to reach full height and width of the trellis, occassionally pinch pruning tips and/or weaving new shoots back into the wire if they grew towards the light. Part sun most of the year. Full of bees when it flowers in late summer. Lets the breeze through. Cost nothing (I used recycled, pre-loved chicken wire and cuttings from a friend). Cuttings root easily in water (pic 3). Euphorbia 'Silver Swan' Amazing variegated euphorbia cultivar. These beauties, along with a bunch of my other plants, were lent to me for the show by one of my sponsors, the very amazing Warner's Wholesale Nursery. There are some great photos, growing information, and design uses on their website, https://www.warners.com.au. They'll enjoy full sun or partial shade, and drought conditions once established, but they'll also handle the moisture and humidity further north provided they've got good drainage. In winter they'll put out amazing pale creamy/green flower heads when there's not much else going on in the garden. Great architectural foliage and a dense habit, you can use them as part of a mixed planting, in pots, or as a loose hedge.
