The chartreuse flowers of Euphorbia characias subsp. wulfenii are one of my favorite ways to add big structure to the spring garden - either in large containers or in the ground 🌼. In my little 35m2 garden I’ve kept it trapped in a pot, since it can easily spread over 1,5m, and that would take up way too much space!

I’m SHOCKED at how well the @greenstalkgarden has been working. I received the Inventor’s Bundle earlier this month and carefully followed @greenlove121 ‘s tips for assembling it. The watering system has been working perfectly, and some of my starts have doubled in size already. This Chinese Giant Leaf Mustard was sown from seed about 75 days ago. I harvested it along with Hedou dwarf choy, as both were starting to bolt. While I never liked Chinese mustard greens growing up, the bitterness doesn’t seem to bother me as much as an adult. These actually tasted a little sweet with only a touch of bitterness. This variety did bolt a little faster than the ones I grew last fall from seeds @fruitandleaves sent me. Could be the timing, could be the variety? These seeds were from Baker Creek. So, why do I grow Chinese mustard greens when I don’t love them? Because I don’t hate them either, and they are good for my family😂. Mustard greens are very high in anti-oxidants and vitamins A, C, K. In fact, one cup of mustard greens contains well over the 100% daily value of Vitamin K, which is great for bone health. Like other cruciferous veggies, these greens also contain glucosinolates which have cancer fighting properties. One cup (~50 g) of chopped mustard greens is only 15 calories, which makes this a nutrient dense, low calorie food. I sautéed today’s harvest with garlic and ginger and added it to tofu stew with noodles. Whole lotta growth happening in Miss June’s Garden. So proud of how big and juicy and abundant my tomato plants are. Transplanted 2/25. I have a huge fear of the pest that targets tomato and pepper plants, the tomato hornworm. So much fear that I’ll opt not to grow tomatoes, despite how undefeated a homegrown tomato is (HAVE YOU HAD A HOMEGROWN TOMATO?!). This season I’m doing it afraid. Fear can keep us from so many things, but fear can also be a useful emotion. It can shift behavior. Currently, fear is helping me to stay present with my tomatoes. I check them multiple times a day. I have them planted with friends (marigolds and basil). I do preventative pest management. I’m doing all of the things necessary to make sure my family has fresh tomatoes this year. Looking down the garden towards the house. Not a view I photograph a lot but I wanted to capture the forget-me-nots from this angle. 💙 Our lawn is in quite a state and I don't normally fuss too much with it but it's going to need some tlc after much of it being under water or saturated for months. Also I don't have as many alliums in this border coming through this year which is a shame. They've rotted I think. Def going to plant in containers in the autumn and then pop in the garden in spring. I will miss them! No gardening for me this weekend as we were away enjoying ourselves with our daughter on Friday and Saturday, and then working today but the weather has been trying, again! so I probably wouldn't have got much done anyway. I also had to separate it into two pots! I liked the growth on this little one so I decided to adopt it as well! Can’t have too many of these beauties 😍 🌱 And, I also got this adorable little fern. I think it’s a lemon button fern (there was no tag on the pot when I got it home and my phone app keeps misidentifying the plant) - but, If anyone thinks it’s actually a different plant, please let me know as I want to be accurate in my care 💗 Do you have any new, or favorite, plants in your life right now? ☺️🪴 . . As always, I only try to get plants that are non toxic to cats. I check several sources, including asking the garden shop staff and the ASPCA website, before bringing a plant home. April balcony update 🤎 Lots of bare roots and dahlia tubers in pots and starting to pop up. My onion sets, beetroot and fennel are ready for the plot, the sweet peas will go next week. That should then leave space to get my tomatoes outside and get them a bit hardier. My autumn sown garlic are looking great, though the spring sown garlic is still nonexistent.
