This is very important. I think as humans we like to see recovery and healing as linear and most of the time they aren’t. I think this is because as humans we like to see and know patterns and what to expect. And this applies to our recovery and healing. But those expectations on recovery & healing then set us up for failure, as well as our processes & policies. Recovery & healing are not linear & they never will be. Even physical recovery isn’t always linear (e.g. a ligament tear may do well healing for 5 weeks and then we overdo ourselves because we think we’re on the mend and we set ourselves back on the ligament healing). The same applies to our emotional & psychological states as well as our well-being. It’s not linear. Stop expecting it to be. Be compassionate & kind to yourself. Healing & recovery takes time. And even when you think you’ve put some trauma to rest, things can resurface that. But you know what? That’s normal! Our brains can’t just delete memories or park them away once you’ve done therapy or whatever healing you need to do. Things come back, unexpectedly. But you can work on those things. It’s ok, we all have to do it from time to time. Because we’re not perfect or infallible as humans. In my group yesterday, I did a live speaking about the holidays. The fact that, for many, the holidays are not Norman Rockwell paintings or by any means a Hallmark movie. Some have lost loved ones. Some do not have family. Some cannot afford the dinner this year. It’s a tough one for me this year. Maybe it’s tough for you too. Just know, it’s ok to feel what you feel. It’s ok to not be excited. It’s ok to be down in the dumps, so to speak. The key 🔑 is, we do not need to stay there. We can make the holidays be what we want. Family are people who have your best interest and highest good at heart Family does not necessarily mean blood. Are you alone? See if anyone else is! Cannot afford the whole meal? Many people I know are delegating dishes and doing a Thanksgiving Potluck! Help at a food bank- nothing makes me more grateful than seeing people so grateful for so little. Know a great holiday does not mean tons of people But tons of peace ☮️ And, if you truly feel out of sorts, it’s ok to let a trusted person know- Just say that you are struggling a bit. We all do. Whether we admit it or not. We may choose to anesthetize ourselves with too much food, alcohol, spending etc But that sadness remains unless faced and dealt with. Sadness does not need to have a seat at our holiday table. This year looks very different for me. I was sad at first. Then I realized I can make this be an amazing Thanksgiving for my 13 year old. I can create more memories with ones not lost, but the ones I’m blessed to have left. If I choose to walk around , clothed in black and weeping over all that’s lost, I’ll never see how blessed I am, with the new joys in my life. New people. New beginnings. New experiences. New growth. NEW PEACE. And that will make it a great holiday. It’s a beautiful life. This poor beast—No Consequences for Achieving Objectives—has two sets of consequences: 1) those for the non-achievers; and 2) those for the objectives-achievers. Both are unhealthy for the individuals and the organization how did this elephant get trapped I the room? Our Elephant Hunter Archives™ show us that ignorance or emotion is the culprit here. Not know how to provide appropriate consequences and the ramifications of not doing so, or the fear of executing these consequences.
