Everyone thinks differently. I could show the same artwork to 10 people, and there will be 10 differing impressions of it. So why do we want so badly to be "right" or "correct" in the way we do things, when we all have different ways we'd prefer to do them if we could? Because we want to be liked, and get along with others. This is a perfectly natural desire because to do otherwise may have consequences. To be kicked out of our social group may no longer mean death and starvation like it once did in the far distant past, but our brains still think of the potential consequences just the same. Going along to get along is prevalent in society. Familial structures, school, business, government. So what happens when you "think different" (Apple) or behave differently than others expect? You get attention. And people will have opinions. Is that to your benefit? Quite possibly, it all depends. You have a choice whether to continue to mask your differences, or to grow into authenticity. It's up to you to decide if the risk of being seen for who you truly are is worth it. Bixby Bridge as the sun sets into the Pacific. Recently, I lost many photos in Lightroom. It was painful; those that I restored came back unorganized and unedited. So many memories are now scrambled 🤬. However, in the rubble, I found this photo. Most photograph this bridge from the turn off on the road. I had hiked up the canyon to get a different perspective. Whatever you do, don't live a mediocre life. Don't just move through every day like a zombie with no hope, no dreams, no passion, no goals, no excitement, no life. Take steps to make your life the life you want. It doesn't matter what other people think, just focus on you. Let's say you want raise chickens as your goal, great, go do that. As long as you have a goal and a focus, it will always lead you to your own peace and balance. Listen to your gut. I know there are times when you just want to mope around and do "nothing". That's also perfectly fine. Just don't do that all year long. Sometimes we need space, quiet and nothingness to figure out what we want to do/achieve. What I'm trying to say is, don't let your fears and negative thoughts consume you. Listen to them ONLY to understand what your body/mind is trying to tell you. Habits take time to form. Start with something small. It's going to be hard but everything is hard at the beginning. Just give it your best shot. For me, it makes it easier if I schedule it. If I don't schedule it, then I may not do it. I also listen to my body. If my body does not want to do it one day, I won't beat myself up for not doing it. I recently added in somatic stretching/yoga to my days. I admit, I don't do the full lesson every day but I will at least do 1 or 2 poses - I think that's a great start already for myself :) I will get to my goals slowly but surely by changing something I do daily...... Ph2/3 Part of Real Collegio, an old education institute, the cloister is the only part of San Frediano's monastery that has survived since the Middle Ages! Ph4 1300s frescoes in the cloister, in what was a tomb. The cloister was indeed a cemetery!...But... When it became part of Real Collegio, in 1800s/1900s there were primary schools in these buildings, so somebody frescoed characters/symbols of fairytales! Ph5 Pinocchio, between two medieval tombs! One of our favorite aspects of San Francisco's Mission District is its many offerings of public art. For a tour of the neighborhood's vibrant, ever-changing murals, a good place to start is Clarion Alley, a conglomeration of rather impressive (and socially-charged) pieces protected by the Clarion Alley Mural Project. (Set of Drifters tip: Look for great block parties held here each October.) CAMP began in 1992, the brainchild of six North Mission residents who wanted to foster a location where artists could create work that spoke to both “social inclusiveness” and “aesthetic variety.” A wander up and down Clarion will only take about 15 minutes and showcases some of the best modern work in the Mission! If you are looking for a more structured experience, contact the Precita Eyes Muralists to inquire about one of several tour options of the neighborhood. Ticket prices run about $25 USD, and are well worth it. The operators of Precita are well-versed on both the Mission District’s history and the murals that rose out from its tumult. As a collective, they strive to educate both community residents and inner city children about the tradition and beauty that emanates from these great modern-day works of art. In fact, they work with city planners, neighborhood merchants and local artists to ensure more than 40 new murals are created each year! #PhotoOfTheDay
