The Everettes - Soul Steps (2023, Waterfall Records) On their second album, the ensemble from Berlin and San Diego brings back the cheerful 60s girl group flair, but combines it with important topics such as mental health and emancipation. The band's debut album, released in 2020, proves that catchy melodies, driving rhythms and pointed brass and string arrangements à la Motown, Stax and Northern Soul have lost none of their charm. The three singers Jess Roberts, Katharina Dommisch and Laura Niemeyer have wonderfully different timbres that complement each other harmoniously and reinforce the memory of classic soul bands. Together with the singers, guitarist and bassist Alexander Dommisch and drummer Maximilian Schubert are responsible for the composition and arrangements and offer a varied bouquet that ranges from 60s R'n'B to bluesy influences and 70s funk and groove. The anthem Soul Thing and the uptempo track Red Flags are particularly worth listening to. The lyrics, which deal with personal demons, toxicity and excessive demands, among other things, can be read on the inner sleeve and lend the songs further depth alongside the multi-faceted instrumentalisation. 'The Tortured Poets Department' • Taylor Swift • 2024 • Parchment Beige /??? • Taylor sure is so productive, it's an art. The album has been out for a week and it's slowly growing on me. I've been focusing on the 'main' album so far - the 'antology' version is too daunting to dive in to for now. Her voice, storytelling and musical production is definitely peaking in this genre. I'm excited for what's to come after her, hopefully and very much deserved, break. For now, I hope we will have lots of time to devour this album.

Idk what happened to my mind, body and soul the first time I heard the album “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan but I truly was transformed into a better person because of this album. It’s one of those rare and unique cosmic experiences in an album. It changed my life for the best & I’m so thankful that I FINALLY get to own it on vinyl thanks to my lovely friends over at @merchbar 🥰 The album is a raw beauty with soul-stirring lyrics and haunting melodies, Kahan explores the depths of human emotion against the backdrop of the changing seasons. From introspective ballads to anthemic tracks, each song on ‘Stick Season’ invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery and connection. With his signature blend of folk and indie-pop, Kahan delivers a captivating sonic experience that resonates long after the final note fades.
