Cracking day out at Blubberhouses Moor yesterday with Jason, @premature_accelerati0n and Caroline. Brilliantly organised by the Nidderdale LDWA and an absolute bargain for £8! Also a good test of where I’m currently at and my longest run since Lakeland 50 last July 🤪 Legs were good over the distance. Lungs not so much! Still shaking off this lurgy 🥴 Hill fitness definitely needs some work, especially on the long climbs 🫣But overall a nice little confidence boost after Arc DNF. Weather, route, views and company were absolutely spot on 👌 Reservoirs, woodland, moorland, a trig point, bogs, bogs and more bogs! Chilling, chatting and soaking up the summer-like sunshine afterwards ☀️ A great way to spend some child free time with Jason and catch up with friends. Got to earn my first LDWA patch too. Patagonia!!!! Day 5 of the W Trek from west to east. The best part of this day was sitting there looking at the sun hitting every single point of the Torres and seeing how the sun illuminated the scenery and made it even more spectacular. This hike can be hiked either way and both have some amazing scenery from start to end. Below are some questions/ answers for those interested in attempting this. 1. Where is the hike? We flew into Santiago, Chile and took a flight to punta arenas and then a bus to puerto natales (there are flights from Santiago to puerto natales but we wanted to see penguins in punta arenas so made a pit stop). We spend a night in puerto natales and took another bus to torres del Paine national park 🏞️. From there we then took a boat who took us to the other side of the park to initiate the hike. 2. Do you need reservations to the park? Yes this park has been rated as one of the best treks in the world and we made reservations to reserve campsites about 8 months in advance. 3. What is included with the reservation? It depends they do have lodges that are shared or private and range from $200-$500 a night. You can also bring your camping tent or rent a tent. We rented our tents 🏕️ and brought with us sleeping bags and mats. You can add in the reservations to include mats or sleeping bags or other camping items. The tents were pretty clean and over meet my expectations. You can also add full or partial meals through the reservation site but they do sell out. Some campsites do allow you to purchase the meals onsite but others don’t. Note that all lodges and campsites have hot showers, kitchens that serve hot meals, areas for you to cook your own food and restrooms. 4. How long is the hike? 46 miles (71km) total. Any day is hard in its own way but very doable. If anyone wants any more information I’m happy to share my knowledge. Last Friday, Chief Commissioner Alvin Ng paid a visit to the corps at Pasir Ris Crest Sec, where the students were super well-prepared and grilled Dr Ng on many facets of the organisation.
