Day 21 - Weekend Wardrobe Whip Around! “Opening your wardrobe should be like arriving at a really good party, where everyone you see is someone you like” - Amy Fine Collins. Yes please! This weekend’s challenge is sorting through your tops (shirts, t-shirts, singlets), pants and trousers, dresses, skirts, jumpers and jackets. My top tip is - don’t overthink it and go with your first instinct! If you don’t get a good feeling from looking at an item then give it the flick! If it doesn’t fit, is the wrong colour, you can’t remember when you last wore it or it was a fad buy look at donating or selling it (especially if you still have the tags hanging on it!). Anything that is stained or damaged needs to be thrown out. You will need two days for this challenge as I have no doubt there will still be lots of maybes left in your wardrobe after day one! So go through the process again on day two. Persevere, as how fabulous will you feel when you are left with a wardrobe full of clothes that you truly love and will actually wear! When re-hanging your clothes sort them by type and colour. Tip – streamline your coat hangers. This will give you extra space in your wardrobe allowing your clothes to breathe which means less creases and less ironing. Win win! Feel good tip – why not get a group of friends around and have a clothes swap. It will be one of your cheapest shopping days ‘out’ and guaranteed to be lots of fun! Day 20 - Weekend Wardrobe Whip Around! “Opening your wardrobe should be like arriving at a really good party, where everyone you see is someone you like” - Amy Fine Collins. Yes please! This weekend’s challenge is sorting through your tops (shirts, t-shirts, singlets), pants and trousers, dresses, skirts, jumpers and jackets. My top tip is - don’t overthink it and go with your first instinct! If you don’t get a good feeling from looking at an item then give it the flick! If it doesn’t fit, is the wrong colour, you can’t remember when you last wore it or it was a fad buy look at donating or selling it (especially if you still have the tags hanging on it!). Anything that is stained or damaged needs to be thrown out. You will need two days for this challenge as I have no doubt there will still be lots of maybes left in your wardrobe after day one! So go through the process again on day two. Persevere, as how fabulous will you feel when you are left with a wardrobe full of clothes that you truly love and will actually wear! When re-hanging your clothes sort them by type and colour. Tip – streamline your coat hangers. This will give you extra space in your wardrobe allowing your clothes to breathe which means less creases and less ironing. Win win! Feel good tip – why not get a group of friends around and have a clothes swap. It will be one of your cheapest shopping days ‘out’ and guaranteed to be lots of fun! The chimney of Coldharbour Mill is a iconic landmark and a familiar site to those who reside in the Culm Valley, an untouched and beautiful part of Devon. It is among the oldest working textile mills in the world, having been in continuous production since 1797. It was one of the mills owned by the Fox Brothers, who also owned other notable factories across Devon and Somerset, many still notable sights. The village of Uffculme is a regular, conventional place, with a few interesting landmarks such as, well, the mill (not named Uffculme Mill as it was further away from the village than the nearby lane named Coldharbour when it was built), the Shambles in the Square (a market stand turned seat, one of the only surviving examples of its kind in Devon) and Bridwell Park (a shimmering country house noticeable across the valley, home of Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a cousin to the Royal Family). But it would be hard to imagine that Uffculme was once a thriving industrial village, with the only surviving remnants of this being the mill, the Old Brewery (an imposing, somewhat austere building dominating the valley) and Grantlands, a Neo Gothic country house owned by the Marker family. Coldharbour Mill is open regularly and has occasional steam days when the machinery is up and running.
