Story about this little guy: So i saw the first ducklings this year at the lake in front of my door, i walk past there everyday and this was the first day i saw them, so they couldn’t be older than 1-2 days, it was 7 of them. And sadly the little guy in this picture was completely ignored by the mother and was shaking and very weak, after a couple of minutes he came to me and sat down between my feet, seeking shelter in guess. Two male ducks always bothered the mom duck which led to her flying away from her chicks for a couple minutes. Crows used that little time to grab and kill all of the other chicks apart from the one that was still between my feet. So after the mom came back she was calling for her chicks and the one between my feet answered and began walking towards the mom, but sadly she still didn’t want anything to do with that chick, so i called the wildlife rescue and asked them what i should do and they asked me if i could bring it to the animal rescue center in my city (which is in the other side of munich 😅) so they can give the little one medical treatment if needed and raise it. And when its old enough they will release it again at the lake where it was born. Ostrero negro africano (Haematopus moquini). El primer día que estuvimos en Sudáfrica fuimos a Robben Island, la isla donde está la cárcel en la que estuvo preso Nelson Mandela durante 20 años. Yo aproveché para darle la vuelta a la isla por la orilla. Pude disfrutar un buen rato fotografiando cormoranes, ibis sagrados, luego un grupo de pingüinos africanos y por último una pareja de ostreros negros. Abejaruco chico (Merops pusillus) Ya se ven los abejarucos europeos (Merops apister) por los campos de la península, espero fotografiarlos bien este año. Mientras, una foto de su pariente africano, tomada en la franja del caprivi entre Nambia, Botswana, Zambia y Angola. Según la leyenda, hace mucho tiempo, los daneses invadieron Escocia sorpresivamente pero al no usar calzado y en la oscuridad, uno de ellos pisó un cardo y un grito agudo de dolor alertó a los escoceses y evitó una terrible matanza. As the cold desert region of Ladakh hardly receives any rainfall during the year, all life in this area relies on snowfall during winter. However, despite Ladakh being situated at an altitude of at least 3000 meters, snowfall was extremely rare this winter. The only major snowfall event occurred a few days after I had arrived. For two days it was snowing non-stop. A few days before a Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia) had made a kill close to our homestay. This provided me with the unique opportunity to capture the so-called Grey Ghost in true winter conditions! 🇫🇷 Pic épeichette 🇬🇧 Lesser Spotted Wood-pecker 🏛️ Dryobates minor Le Pic épeichette est le plus petit picidé français, d’une taille similaire à celle d’un moineau 🐤. De par sa taille, il est difficilement confondable avec un autre pic. De plus, il ne présente pas de grandes plages blanches sur le dos mais des tâches formant de fines bandes hachurées. Il fréquente des boisements de feuillus de plaines ou collinéens avec une préférence pour les boisements humides à bois tendre 🌳. Il se nourrit de la microfaune sous les écorces comme les xylophages et larves 🪱. En hiver, il lui arrive de se nourrir sur les boules de graisse dans les parcs et jardins. Comme tous les pics, il niche dans des cavités qu’il creuse dans les bois. En France, l’espèce est considérée comme « Quasi Menacée» ⚠️. Il n’est pas autant vulnérable à la pression forestière que les autres pics. Pour cause, les bois blancs qu’il affectionne n’intéressent pas les forestiers.
