And my 8th 12” of 1986 follows my 7th – this time it’s EG Daily and the 9 minute version of “Love In The Shadows”. I have always loved this song and I am sure I mentioned the song had been around for a few years before the album Wild Child came out in 1986. It first appeared on the Thief Of Hearts movie and soundtrack in 1984 and with that I have to say how much I friggin love that filthy movie. It is one of my favorites of the 80s. So hawt and odd and such a great soundtrack. #1986inmusic #egdaily #haroldfaltermeyer #theifofhearts #1984infilm #stevenbauer #christoneebersole #80sdance #12inchsingles #barbarawilliams #drinkingwithvinyl

My next 1984 album is the soundtrack to the movie No Small Affair starring Jon Cryer and Demi Moore – does anyone even remember this movie? I do but I only saw it once when it came out and I’m not sure why I bought the soundtrack. I do love the Fiona song “Love Makes You Blind” and that’s on here and I remember liking the songs Demi Moore “sings” in the movie (it’s really Chrissy Faith) “Itching For A Fight” is fun but “Hot Headed” is for sure my favorite of her songs. Now I have to look up Chrissy Faith and see if she ever made any albums. Meanwhile there’s also 2 yes 2 Twisted Sister songs on this soundtrack and neither of them is “We’re Not Gonna Take It”. Malcolm McLaren and the McLarenettes are on here too with “Eiffel Tower” – one of the coolest 80s songs I never heard before. Incidentally I read that this movie was originally slated to star Matthew Broderick and Sally Field but was scrapped then Ellen Barkin was supposed to play opposite Jon Cryer but she got dumped for Demi – making this both of their first big starring movies – also it’s Jennifer Tilley’s first movie too. Now I need to go watch the movie this weekend. #1984inmusic #1984infilm #80ssoundtracks #fiona #malcommclaren #chrissyfaith #demimoore #joncryer #egdaily #jennifertilley #drinkingwithvinyl #twistedsister

Dinner and a movie - on this day May 24th in 1984 ABC aired Invitation to Hell - a crazy TV movie directed by Wes Craven where Susan Lucci is the social director to an insane posh country club where all the most successful computer geniuses work and she tries to get Robert Urich and his wife Joanna Cassidy to join. Plus it has Punky Brewster, Joe "I stole Valene's babies on Knots Landing, I was mean to Blanches daughter on Golden Girls, I was Murphy Brown's best friend" Regalbuto and the original bad seed Patty McCormack...I have loved this one since I saw it air that Thursday night in 1984. My next vinyl album from 1984 is the soundtrack to the much ballyhooed (not fair!!) movie Where The Boys Are ’84. So I’ve had the title song single by Lisa Hartman forever but it was brought to my attention a few months ago that I didn’t own this soundtrack. A pal of mine wanted to know if I had mp3s of the songs and I realized I did not so I went to another friend who graciously gave me the music but then I finally tracked down a copy of my own because it’s part of the LISA HARTMAN collection damnit! Also, one of the cooler songs on here “Hot Nights” which was the b-side of the single is by Jude Cole. I like him a lot, I love his voice and songs. In the late 80s he had a self titled album that I bought solely based on how cute he was on the cover but then in the late 90’s he made an album called View From 3rd Street and to this day it’s one of my all time albums (Baby It’s Tonight, House Full Of Reasons, Get Me Through The Night) and most people if they know him at all would know the song “Start My Car” which was released on his next album…. Anyway he also worked with Lisa Hartman a lot, after this he appears on her “Til My Heart Stops” album and I think it’s because they both worked with Denis Pregnolato. He produced Lisa’s Letterock album and was Jude Cole’s manager (I think). Anyway, all the good songs from the movie are here – Shandi’s “Seven Day Heaven” which basically plays on repeat in the movie is fun and oddly completely tells the story of the film plus Shandi is pretty great, the year prior she did “He’s A Dream” on the Flashdance soundtrack. In the movie the rockabilly act Rockats are featured playing at a club and they have two fun songs on here, then there’s the insane ballad “Jenny” which basically ends the movie sung by Peter Beckett (he dubbed it for hottie Mchottie Russell Todd in the movie) and I can’t help but love it. Sparks also shows up doing the fun “Mini Skirted” which is also featured pretty well in the film. I love those Mael boys. And now I think it’s time for an afternoon movie. I wonder what to watch??? #1984infilm #1984inmusic #80svinyl #80ssoundtracks #lisahartman #lisahartmanblack #wheretheboysare84 #russelltodd #peterbeckett #j

Next up is a round of 7” that charted at this time in 1984 – Night Ranger “Sister Christian”, Dead Or Alive and their crazy cover of KC & The Sunshine Band’s “That’s The Way (I Like It)” – which I found this 45 at a thrift charity store called Youth Ranch when I lived in Couer d’Alene, Idaho and I had never ever heard it before, now I love it… then we have my girl Lisa Hartman and her cover of “Where The Boys Are” from the movie Where The Boys Are ’84, and yes I have the US record, the US promo record and the UK 7” with the picture sleeve because it’s LISA HARTMAN!! Then Josie Cotton came back with a brand new kicking story song “Jimmy Loves Maryann”. Love her!! (I have the released record and the promo of this one too cause it’s JOSIE COTTON!!) So in other news, I try to keep these albums and singles all in chronological order and if a song didn’t chart I try to find out through catalog numbers on the record companies when they actually came out. Since my girl Lisa didn’t have a chart single til she married her husband I always end up doing research on her releases – of course I can find the day the movie came out – April 6, 1984 but I swear I saw Lisa Hartman sing “Where The Boys Are” on Solid Gold and though she made several appearances on the show only one website puts her on the show around this time saying she appeared on Solid Gold on March 10, 1984 which makes sense as it’s about a month before the movie and that’s the day that Rick Springfield (on the same label) charted with “Love Somebody” from his movie Hard To Hold which also opened on April 6, 1984, but her catalog number is like 90 numbers later… THEN the UK catalog number for the Where The Boys Are single puts that release sometime in August following Juice Newton & Ronnie Milsap charting singles. So I just put the song and album release at April 6, 1984…. This is all my attempt to be a record archivist. Thanks for reading my rants. #1984inmusic #1984infilm #deadoralive #peteburns #kcandthesunshineband #lisahartman #lisahartmanblack #wheretheboysare #wheretheboysare84 #josiecotton #nightranger #solidgoldtvshow

And we have my first official favorite album of 1984 – the original soundtrack to the movie Footloose. There isn’t a bad song on this album – sure it’s only 9 songs but I love all 9 songs!! 7 of them were released as singles and became hits so I’m not the only one who loved them. I just happen to have the picture disc of the album – I’m a fan for sure but honestly didn’t go out to search for the picture disc but I found it and paid like $2.00 for it so I took it and cleaned it and love it! Of course the title track is infamous and so great but I also love love love the other Kenny Loggins song “I’m Free” it has some of my favorite lyrics ever and I love the music – “Holdin’ Out For A Hero” is sublime for sure, “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”, “Almost Paradise”, “Dancing In The Sheets”, Karla Bonoff who I adore and her song “Somebody’s Eyes” – even Sammy Hagar’s “The Girl Gets Around” is pretty fun (one of the only ones not released as a single as far as I can tell) BUT my all time favorite song is “Never” by Moving Pictures. Of course it’s the famous scene in the movie where Kevin Bacon is dancing around angry in an empty warehouse but I would do the same thing to this song. I love everything about it… and it wasn’t a single!!! One day I’m doing a cover album and I’m singing this song. Incidentally, I never knew that Dean Pitchford – who I knew as a songwriter wrote the movie!!! Plus he co-wrote every single song the album. That’s awesome. #1984inmusic #1984infilm #footloose #kevinbacon #kennyloggins #annwilson #mikereno #bonnietyler #karlabonoff #movingpictures #sammyhagar #deniecewilliams #shalamar #deanpitchford #80svinyl #picturediscs #moviesoundtracks

Partners In Crime with Lynda and Loni and she's in a new movie I must see called 90210 Shark Attack but for the 80s aficionados out there her most important and amazing role was as Angel in the 1984 avenging prostitute awesomeness movie Angel that I saw far too many times. #1981inTV #80stvmovies #lyndacarter #donnawilkes #jaws2 #wonderwoman #1984infilm #angelthemovie #notavengingangel

I think the word masterpiece gets tossed around too much and has been overused and that’s why I don’t like to use it but guys and gals, Milos Forman’s Amadeus (1984) is an outstanding piece of work and is truly a masterpiece. 3 hours fly by like nothing and I remember when I first saw this, I watched it again right after and it’s one of the few movies that I’ve ever done that. I need to watch this again. It’s been too long since I’ve seen it. Without a doubt, one of my favorite films ever and either my favorite or second favorite film from the 80s. Following the success of 48 Hours (1982) and Trading Places (1983), Eddie Murphy struck box office gold once again with the smash hit action comedy Beverly Hills Cop which was released on this day in 1984. Eddie Murphy has never been better in his trademark role as wisecracking Detroit Police Detective Axel Foley. Judge Reinhold (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and John Ashton (Midnight Run) play hapless Beverly Hills police detectives Rosewood and Taggert who are assigned to monitor Foley. Steven Berkoff (Rambo: First Blood Part II) plays the shady art dealer Victor Maitland who is also operating a drug smuggling organisation. Ronny Cox (Robocop) plays Lieutenant Bogomil who is not impressed with Foley's presence and thus wants him out of the city. Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad) plays chief henchman Zack who is responsible for the death of Foley's childhood friend. Also featured in the cast includes Lisa Eilbacher, James Russo, Bronson Pinochet, Paul Reiser, Gilbert R. Hill and Damon Wayans in an early role. 35 years on, Beverly Hills Cop is still a classic comedy and this is one of Eddie Murphy's most memorable movies. #beverlyhillscop #beverlyhillscop1984 #beverlyhillscop35thanniversary #1984 #1984inmovies #1984infilm #eddiemurphy #axelfoley #boxofficehit #1984boxofficehit #comedy #classicmovie #classiccomedy

In prep for a future episode I'm checking out this Best Picture nominee (it lost to Amadeus) from 1984. This is David Lean's final film and based on a novel by E. M. Forster. I remember checking this out some 15-20 years ago and not getting through its 2hr 40min runtime. 😂 It's so far a film of conflicting messages: impressive criticism of British Imperialism and racist attitudes towards the Indian population while also featuring Sir Alec Guiness race-bending in brownface. Have you seen it? Does its merits outweigh Guiness's casting? #TheGibsonReview #themovielovers #moviepodcast #spotify #spotifypodcast #soundcloud #davidlean #apassagetoindia #judydavis #alecguiness #bestpicturenominee #1984movies #1984 #1984infilm #35thanniversary

R: Starman (1984) · Dir. John Carpenter · ★★★★★★★★★☆ · I rewatched this film for the first time in about a decade and then I watched it another three times. There’s just something magical about it. I could quibble about parts of it but it’s just — I love it. Karen Allen as grief-stricken, yearning to love again. Jeff Bridges as a stranger learning to love for the first time, remembering word for word that love is “when someone is a part of you”. God, what a movie. One of the rare movies that could never be what it is without its leads. Overwhelming. More than terrific. Beautiful. The best. · #film #movies #cinema #watchedin2019 #365in365 #1984infilm #1984

Once Upon A Time In America (1984) Favorite Movie Quotes #50 “We’re not asking you to take orders Joe. We’re telling you.” - Noodles I watched this last night and I didn’t even know it was the 35th anniversary for this movie. What a coincidence. This is a perfect example of an epic movie. This doesn’t have enormous set pieces, no huge action scenes like Lord of the Rings or even epic stakes like Infinity War and Endgame. It’s just epic in the way the movie is told and the story isn’t anything complex. We just watch the life of Noodles and his friends in certain moments in time. You have 4 hours of this and when it’s finished, you really have to sit there for a while to digest everything you watched. That’s part of what I think an epic movie is when you have to sit and really think about everything that happened in those few hours. Future filmmakers, you want to tell an epic story, this movie is a prime example of that. This is also the longest movie I’ve seen. 4 hours and 10 minutes and this is only my second time watching it but man, one of my favorite movies and maybe my favorite Sergio Leone movie. Sorry Good, Bad, and Ugly. #onceuponatimeinamerica #sergioleone #robertdeniro #movie #movies #cinema #film #movieclip #moviescene #video #1984infilm #favoritemoviequotesofalltime

The double feature the characters in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before agreed on of this and Fight Club sounds like a recipe for a real bad time.

Rewatched: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) "One two Freddy's coming for you." When I first watched this two years ago around the same time, I was let down as I was expecting one of the best horror films of all time. I rewatched it again this morning and while I do like it more, I don't think it's one of the best horror films ever. I used to think Freddy was scarier but now, I'm like eh. The deaths of Tina and Glen are great though. Also Heather as Nancy is fantastic. Movie Review #188 "The only thing that worried me was the actual killing. How does one do that? Hmmm? How does one kill a man? It's one thing to dream about it; very different when, when you, when you have to do it with your own hands." (This review has spoilers!) Amadeus is one of the greatest films ever made! Honestly, I saw that this movie got a lot of praise and won 8 oscars including best picture and I can totally see why! This movie is so marvelous! The direction by Milos Forman is perfection! He clearly deserved his oscar! Now most people might disagree but I think he directed this film better than he did for One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest even though that is still a good movie! The way Milos was able to set the tone and make it seem like it was actually taking place in the 18th century was incredible! It looked so real that I thought that this was actually in the 18th century! He did that good of a job! The screenplay is another fantastic aspect of this film! Perfect characters of Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and amazing dialogue! I can see why this won best screenplay at the oscars! The performances are my favorite part of the movie! The supporting cast all do good jobs! Elizabeth Berridge was great as Constanze Mozart! I think she was worthy of an oscar nomination! Now the two leads were absolutely perfect! After watching this the last time, I really don't know who I think had the better performance! Let's start off with F. Murray Abraham! He played the role of Salieri perfectly! He was such an evil person at times but at other times, you do feel sorry for him! His character development was just too good! He ended up winning the oscar and at first, I thought they made the wrong decision but idk now! Tom Hulce as Mozart was perfect as well! Definitely one of my favorite performances ever! I did not see Hulce one bit, I always saw Mozart! And that laugh though! Just amazing! And he deserved his oscar nomination! I thought he deserved to win but I'm not for sure though! Both were fantastic though!

I know @themoviemotel did this back on September 6 but this movie wasn't released nation wide until September 19 so I'm counting that as the official release date! 31 years ago today, Amadeus was released in theaters on September 19, 1984! I love this movie so freaking much! I didn't think this film was going to be that good but it is a masterpiece! Especially the performances from the two leads! My second favorite movie of the 80s and one of my favorite movies of all time! Happy 31st anniversary to Amadeus! #amadeus #milosforman #tomhulce #fmurrayabraham #wolfgangamadeusmozart #antoniosalieri #music #movie #movies #cinema #film #f4f #followme #follow4follow #movieanniversary #happy31stanniversaryamadeus #bestpicture #oscars #1984infilm

I've decided that I'm going to do my top 15 favorite performances of all time! Now I would do a top ten but it's so hard for me to just put 10 so I'm doing 15 because there are so many memorable performances! I haven't seen all the great ones but these are my favorite so here it goes! 15. We have our first tie and it definitely won't be the last! Tom Hulce as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Amadeus and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett in Gone With The Wind! Tom Hulce was amazing and he should've won the oscar! I was so impressed by him! He definitely killed the role! Seriously how did he not win the oscar! He was so much better than his co-star F. Murray Abraham! Vivien Leigh was also amazing! Wow! She gave one of the best performances by an actress maybe even the best by some people and she definitely deserved the oscar! Gone With Te Wind is a really long movie but I would mainly just watch it again because of her! #tomhulce #wolfgangamadeusmozart #amadeus #vivienleigh #scarlett #gonewiththewind #movie #movies #cinema #film #oscars #oscarnominee #oscarwinner #top15 #15 #top15favoriteperformancesinfilm #bestpicture #f4f #movielists

Top 25 favorite best picture winners (1969-present!) 14. Amadeus! Wow! That was basically my thoughts after I watched this film! I didn't think I was going to like it all that much but I loved it! I didn't watch the original version, I watched the directors cut which is 3 hours long! I don't know if it's better than the original or not! This movie deserved best picture and the other oscars it won! The performances by F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce were fantastic! I still think Hulce should've won best actor at the oscars instead of Abraham but that's just me! He gave like a top 15 performance of all time IMO! This is probably my second favorite movie of the 1980s! Everything about this movie is great! #amadeus #milosforman #fmurrayabraham #tomhulce #antoniosalieri #wolfgangamadeusmozart #amadeusmozart #movie #movies #cinema #film #1984infilm #oscars #bestpicture #bestpicturewinner #top25 #14
