I sette samurai ebbe però una circolazione e un successo molto superiori, soprattutto nei decenni successivi alla sua uscita, e specialmente negli Stati Uniti, influendo sul cinema hollywoodiano così tanto da cambiare sia la figura dell’eroe classico sia molte convenzioni riguardo a come si fa cinema d’azione. . A Fistful of Dollars (1964) Directed by Sergio Leone Rewatched: 27/04/2024 Rating: 🤠/10 I’m sure A Fistful of Dollars is someone’s favourite of the three Clint Eastwood + Sergio Leone westerns, but it’s probably not the favourite of many. This loose trilogy the pair ended up doing comprised one movie a year for three years in the middle of the 1960s. Watching it in order, we go from one solid film to one great film and then finally it concludes with one absolutely perfect film. A Fistful of Dollars is quaint in comparison to both For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and almost feels like a proof of concept, in hindsight. Still, it’s a more than solid western that can be appreciated today, but I don’t think it’s as enjoyable as any other film Leone made after this. It probably says something that it took me about 13 years to finally watch it for a second time, whereas I’ve revisited all the others much earlier (and some I’ve seen several times, on average once every couple of years). This film also has to be celebrated for the fact it pretty much established two legends who went on to achieve greatness in the years following: Eastwood as an actor (and eventual director) and Leone as a filmmaker. I guess it was also one of the earliest big films Ennio Morricone scored, too, so it’s like a star is born times three. . Il Était Une Fois En Amérique - Réalisé par Sergio Leone (1984) . Synopsis: A New York, à la fin de la prohibition, Noodles se réfugie dans une fumerie d’opium après un coup qui a mal tourné. Plus de trente ans plus tard, il est de retour en ville et se remémore son passé de gangster : de sa jeunesse de voyou dans les années 20, marquée par sa rencontre avec son ami Max et leurs nombreux trafics dans le ghetto juif de la ville, jusqu’à la période de prohibition où leur bande, liée par une profonde amitié, s’enrichit et marque son ascension dans la pègre grâce au commerce illégal d’alcool. Noodles se rappelle aussi de sa relation amoureuse échouée avec Deborah durant toute sa vie. Une oeuvre crépusculaire dense et sublime, ultime volet de la célèbre trilogie de Sergio Leone et dernier film incontournable du cinéaste dans sa version longue. . Mon avis: Ultime oeuvre de Sergio Leone, son testament dont il consacra douze année de sa vie, notamment pour préparer le scénario adapté du livre « The Hoods » de Harry Grey. Il nous fait suivre le destin de Noodle sur trois époques différentes, régulièrement lié à trois amis dont Max et un amour pour Deborah qu’il a rencontré lors de sa jeunesse. Un rêve. Et si tout cela n’était qu’un rêve ? Comment le définir autrement ? Leone lui-même avait précisé à un spectateur curieux que son film commençait et se terminait dans une fumerie d’opium... Ce qui signifie que durant près de 4 heures, nous n’avons peut-être observé qu’un fantasme démesuré. En tout cas, c’est vraiment ce que j’ai ressenti. Il avait rebaptisé l’oeuvre « il était une fois un certain cinéma » en expliquant que c’était la dernière fois qu’on verrait une oeuvre de ce genre. C’est splendide, il n’y a pas de mots assez forts pour souligner l’ampleur et la réussite du travail d’un géant qui aura consacré 12 ans de sa vie à mettre au monde son bébé. Et ça saute aux yeux : la perfection est omniprésente et les images les plus belles mais aussi les plus troublantes sont à mon avis celle de la ville ancienne, recouverte de nuages de fumée, où Noodles et ses acolytes ont fait leurs premiers pas. Akira Kurosawa con "I sette samurai", settant'anni fa, crea forse la prima vera immagine dell'epica. Le posizioni dei corpi nell'inquadratura, gli sguardi, i movimenti, la composizione dei soggetti in relazione all'ambiente che li circonda. È il trionfo della grandiosità, con i samurai come protagonisti stilisticamente perfetti per enfatizzare l'aura della leggenda. In occidente l'epica audiovisiva assume nuove forme principalmente grazie al western e - tra gli altri - grazie a Sergio Leone, che a Kurosawa deve tanto.
