My son is presumed to have ADHD so we are going through the assessment stage. We talked about it and I asked him how he felt about maybe having to take medication. He said he didn’t want to feel differently I asked him well don’t you already feel different what’s going to be the difference. I let him know I take medication and that I’m bipolar. I explained what bipolar disorder is and what ADHD is and I let him know that we are in this together and we can always talk about it! But we have to acknowledge it and know we gotta keep pushin. Like 2pac said keep ya head up kid I love u 🤟🏽 #ptsd #adhd #mentalhealth #childmentalhealth #blackmentalhealth #blackmama #proudmommy #bipolar #talk

Overthinking often leads to more stress and more worry. Trust I know lol when we get in the pattern of overthinking, over researching, over questioning we put our brain in a loop that can sometimes be challenging to get out of. Try replacing the overthinking with trust. Trust in yourself. Trust in your gut. Trust that you will always make the best decision for you and accepting that the rest is out of your control (easier said than done 🥴). This takes practice but you will get it Sis! #anxiety #Blackmama #healing #blacktherapist

For sooo many reasons, having a home birth was the best option for me (a birthing center or hospital may be the best option for you for just as many reasons, and that’s more than okay!!) But one of the many benefits of this is that my midwife comes to my house for all my prenatal visits. ALSO, my doula (pictured here) is studying to be a midwife, so she comes to all the prenatals too. Look at her finding babe’s heartbeat like a bosssss. And you can hear my midwife in the background cheering her on. I love my birth team so much 🖤 #pregnancy #homebirth #blackbirthmatters #blackmama

4am thoughts. Being the primary parent has its ups and its downs, and today ya girl is strugglingggg. I’m grateful to be able to be home with my boys all day, every day because it allows for me to build a strong emotional bond and foundation with the both of them. I know this bond will be the baseline for their emotional connections with others, as well as their emotional intelligence. But at the same time, it’s hard af. being the primary parent means I’m in mommy mode all day every single day. Most of the time, i forget that I’m an actual person outside of my boys because I’m always in mommy mode. I’m literally the epitome of #nodaysoff my personal life has been sacrificed for their growth, development, peace and happiness. I can’t just get up and have a break, or spend hours alone or on my phone because that unfortunately doesn’t exist in my world. Shit, most days I can’t even shower because I’m always needed in some way or another. (And if I do shower, I’m always accompanied by a small human with legos 😅). My days start and end when they say so (hence, the 4am thoughts). The vibe of the day is determined by how well they slept or didn’t sleep; despite if I even slept at all. Being the primary parent is hard. And I’m so damn tired y’all. Mentally. Physically. And emotionally. I’m exhausted. And my cup is empty af. But, I digress. I’m just over here thuggin shit out, because wtf else am I supposed to do? Any words of encouragement? Please do share. #firstimemom #blackmama #momlife #momsofinstagram #support #supportmoms #newmom #millennialmom #boymom #idkwhatimdoing #growth #blackmoms #blackmomsmatter #healing #dftb

Hey Parent Tribe, I am a mama and I am a creator. Why not just put it together…@iammamathecreator!! I’m a Black mama raising a Black son. There are so many things in life that I have to teach him and protect him from just being human. But, then having to add specific teachings and protections because he is a Black male is an entire different thing. I don’t take this parenting journey lightly. So far, being a mom has brought out so much love, humility, more prayer, more faith, a little anxiousness (that I’m still giving to God), more patience, and more gentleness. I’m grateful each day to be a mama. I wouldn’t trade my current life with my old one ever. I am a work from home mom with a child who does NOT go to daycare. I realized that it is totally different than being a stay at home mom. So just imagine my day…I’m grateful for my partner who steps in at any given moment. Parenting is not meant to be done by yourself. We are a team, a great one. This account is meant for me to showcase my mama content. My main topics are products that I’ve used or using, my thoughts/emotions, body transformation (pursuing healthier lifestyle and losing weight), praising God, and a sprinkle of humor wherever I can. Thank you for being a part of my parent/mama journey !! I apologize in advance because you all will not see my son’s face. You might glimpse the back of him, an arm, or leg, but not his actual face. I just rather not show him in that way to the world. ✌🏾&🤎 #introduction #iammamathecreator #momlifeunfiltered #mamalifestyle #mommylifestyle #wfhmom #wfhmomlife #momhumor #momjokes #momlaughs #praisegodalways #prayerwarrior #prayerlife #glorytogod #blackmama #blackmom #blackmoms #boymomadventures #motherhoodjourney #explore #momjourney #mommymoments #socialmediacontentcreator #blackmothers #blackmaternalhealth #blackmomsbreastfeed #topics #parenttribe

We know that many women not only want to be great moms but want to be moms for a very long time. But the reality is Black women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than other women. This has to change.

While I may be late to the party for Black Maternal Health Week, in my mind I am right on time for it because Black mamas are important everyday AND it’s also Cesarean (c section) Awareness month. As a survivor of 2 c-sections, 16 months apart, I can truly say the whole process is one I will never forget. The pain, limited mobility, having to depend so heavily on the people around me, and the healing…it’s a lot! Not to mention, the hospital released me to my own devices after 2 days! No medical team to look after me at home to make sure I was okay. If there was an emergency, it was on me (and my tribe) to identify it and seek help immediately. SO MUCH! Thankfully I didn’t have any complications, but that does not hold true for so many women who look like me. During this month, and throughout the year, let’s encourage each other, pay attention and listen to our bodies, and exert just as much time and energy into ourselves as we pour into our families and others. We aren’t new to this, we are TRUE to this! #blackmama #cesareanawarenessmonth #blackmaternalhealth #blackmomblogger #girlmomlife

It’s Black Maternal Health Week and I wanted to highlight the disparity that exists in the healthcare system when it comes to being a Black woman. How do I know? Because I’ve experienced it firsthand. Being dismissed when you ask a question about your health concerns is a common issue I’ve had to deal with over the years. Most significantly, I experienced not being taken seriously while giving birth despite signs that something was wrong. Many of us women have dealt with these issues, but Black women are 3x more likely to die from giving birth, so this issue is dire and shows it’s much worse for this particular demographic. What can be done? ✔️ Advocate for yourself and your needs ✔️ Find a doctor who sees you! ✔️ Find a doula, midwife, and other practitioners who can assist with your pregnancy journey. ✔️ Ask your friends and community for referrals and support. ✔️Do your own research to understand your body and how it works. ✔️Share what you learn to spread awareness! What you find can help someone else. Ps. I just learned about @birthfund! ✔️Give yourself grace for not knowing things earlier. None of this is easy and taking time to figure out your healthcare is so important and doesn’t happen overnight. #blackmaternalhealthweek #blackmaternalhealth #wellness #awarenessispower #advocateforyourself #birthjustice #knowyourworth #fightforjustice #knowyourrights #understandyourbody #blackmama

In honor of #blackmaternalhealthweek I want to share a little bit of my journey through pregnancy. June 2022 is when it was confirmed I was 7 weeks pregnant by that time I had already lost my job because of morning sickness. I was working in a restaurant and couldn’t stand the sight of food. As an immigrant I didn’t have enough rights to support me financially so I only lived of the little savings I had which could hardly get me to my second trimester or even the following months. I was alone and too ashamed to tell my family I was pregnant and single. I started to do some research and was connected to a Hatian woman midwife here in Brooklyn she became my primary care through out my pregnancy and helped to deliver my baby earth side. Through her is when I was connected to WIC (Woman Infants and Children) The WIC program was helpful to me in a lot of ways but also very limited when you think of pregnancy every woman goes through different symptoms that sometimes certain foods just don’t agree with you, so I had to be creative with my meals to have enough nutrients to nurture my growing baby.Through my pregnancy I created a food journal and recipes that I look forward to sharing with you all this summer. #prenatal #postpatumjourney #blackmama #africanmama #singlemoms

On the last day of #blackmaternalhealthweek, I am celebrating the amazing care that I have received this month. I’m home recovering from abdominal surgery (more to say on that later)and I finally feel like I’m on the mend. This was unexpected and naturally I have been super frustrated, but today I have been holding space for gratitude that I have the privilege to solely focus on healing right now and have access to amazing care. Advocacy and Representation is how we ensure #blackmamas matter in many ways! As a mama who advocated day in and out for my life and my daughter’s life I found the disparities in the system. A system that was not built for us but we have everything in us to unite together and make change for the next generations! So as we close the awareness of #bmh I celebrate the strength and resilience of Black mothers and the vital role they play in our society. If you see a #blackmama give her the flowers 💐 she deserves!

#BlackMama Check your privilege before "observing" the stricter parenting styles of black parents. Our children often face harsher consequences for even the most simple and innocent things. I was told by an older white couple that "the dark ones behave better than the white ones" #truestory Thats because we are still trying to build a world where the "dark ones" can experience freedom. They behave out of survival. #EdensMommy #DontPlay

We’re living in a toxic world, and there’s good evidence that it’s making us sick! A non toxic lifestyle can seem overwhelming especially if you don’t understand why it’s important and how it connects to not just gut health but your overall wellbeing. While many things can lead to weakened immune health (poor diet, lack of sleep, stress, being sedentary, etc), an often overlooked factor is exposure to environmental chemicals. Here are some of the ways that exposure to environmental chemicals can impact our immune health: ❌ Disrupting normal immune function: many chemicals have been shown to alter the production & activity of immune cells, including cytokines, which can impair our body’s ability to mount an effective immune response against pathogens, thereby increasing the risk of infection. ❌ Increased inflammation: many chemicals can trigger inappropriate inflammatory responses, leading to chronic inflammation, which can in turn weaken the immune system, contribute to inflammatory conditions, and trigger autoimmune disease. ❌ Immune suppression: Some toxic exposures have been shown to suppress normal immune function, leading to increased risk of infections, poor wound healing, and even reduced vaccine response. ❌ Allergic and Autoimmune Reactions: Some chemicals can trigger allergic reactions and autoimmune responses in susceptible people. There is strong evidence that asthma, allergies, and autoimmune diseases have a significant environmental component. ❌ Altered Gut Microbiome. Many toxic exposures can disrupt the balance of the gut microbiota, which plays an enormous role in regulating a healthy immune system. Gut dysbiosis can weaken the immune system, lead to inflammatory conditions, and trigger autoimmune flares. This is just part of why I make a point of talking a lot about environmental chemical exposure - it’s a hugely important topic to address! I’m reflecting on Lauryn Hill’s timeless song “To Zion” during #BlackMaternalHealthWeek and as a Black mom and therapist, it brings me a sense of gratitude and understanding. 🫶🏾 The journey of motherhood and postpartum experiences can be overwhelming, challenging, beautiful, faith-filled. Through Hill’s heartfelt lyrics, I resonate with the emotions of sacrifice, love, and resounding joy as a Black mother. 🤎Encouraging other Black moms to prioritize their mental health and self-care during this special week and beyond has been essential. Let’s continue to support each other in navigating the complexities of motherhood and embracing the beauty of our shared experiences. As a black woman's health nurse practitioner and a former labor & delivery nurse, maternal health is very important to me. I was a lot younger when I had my first daughter, and to be honest, I was just unaware of how things should be. When I had my second daughter, I was more aware of maternal health, especially since I was a labor and delivery nurse at this time. Fortunately, I did not have any complications during either pregnancy, and although neither of my OB provides were African American, I still received great care 💜. With that being said, I do know that a lot of African Americans believe that African American practitioners can relate more with them than a healthcare provider from another ethnicity. I understand this sentiment because, to be honest, there are just some things, whether said or unsaid, that we can pick up on more easily. I also believe that no matter who your healthcare provider is, the most important thing you can do is to advocate for yourself. If something is off, SPEAK UP. If you feel like you aren't being heard, then speak to another provider. When it comes to your health and the health of the baby either still in your womb or now in your arms, there are no "stupid" questions or concerns. SPEAK UP for yourself and your baby! As we are coming to the end of Black Maternal Health Week, let's SPEAK UP and talk about our pregnancy as well as labor and delivery experiences. Speaking up is an important part of changing things 💜. The Black maternal health crisis is real. Did you know Black women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women? Let's work together to change this statistic. #BMHW24

👁👄👁 Toujours enceinte !

Pregnancy should be a joyful time, not a time of fear or uncertainty. But Black women face a greater risk of serious complications and death during or immediately after pregnancy. Together, we can change that. #BMHW24
