March 20 Today was Kimberly’s checkup with the pediatrician. Unfortunately it’s time for more vaccines. But we trust scientists and our doctors. Whatever vaccines they want to give her we do. We need to do what will protect her little half of a heart. She was also able to get the covid vaccination finally. She had to wait 6 months since her heart was on bypass. It doesn’t seem like it has been over 6 months since her open heart surgery (Glenn procedure). • @karrie_locher - A common struggle Postpartum… WHY? When you are pregnant your estrogen and progesterone hormones are high. Once baby is delivered, those hormones begin to plummet. Low estrogen levels can mimic menopause and bring about night sweats, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. In breast-feeding women, prolactin is produced in high levels, which also lowers estrogen and helps induce night sweats. These hormone fluctuations also help rid the body of excess fluid from pregnancy and delivery. This fluid is excreted from the body by night sweats or frequent urination. WHAT TO DO? Since the basis of night sweats is hormone driven, there isn’t too much we can do to stop them on our own timeline! However— we want to make it a little more bearable! * Hydrate! 💦 Yes, seems obvious, but making sure you’re hydrated can actually help lessen night sweat intensity and keep mama hydrated. * Stay Cool 🧊 with a fan nearby, lighter/breathable clothes and blankets, or turning up the AC as needed * Extra clothes 👚 having an extra outfit near the bed can be helpful for a quick midnight change if clothes become drenched * Lining the bed 🛏 using a waterproof mattress liner or lining your bed with a towel (under the fitted sheet) can be helpful in catching an extra sweat so it doesn’t ruin the mattress * Frequent bathroom breaks 🚽 are important since urine is another way the body rids of excess fluid If sweating persists + intensifies or is associated with other symptoms like anxiety, racing heart, tremors, etc please speak with your doctor as many of the symptoms postpartum (including night sweats) can also be symptoms shared with a thyroid condition!! 🙋🏽♀️ Did you experience postpartum night sweats?! 01/05/24 Not much to update on Vitamins/Supplements. I'm still taking folic acid, Vit D and Omega. Husband is on Vit D and Omega. Depending on how the scan goes next week and how long we decide to continue with ttc, we may start Coq10. We're both focusing on eating healthy and getting lots of exercise. The husband is working so hard daily runs/gym and has cut his snacks out. He's benefiting from it so much mentally and physically which is nice to see. We really struggle for meal ideas. Due to conflicting shift patterns we're like passing ships so I'm eating around 4pm and he's eating at 7pm so is having to warm his food up when he's home.
