Fazia um bom tempo que queria ver o filme francês O Último Suspiro e talvez eu esperasse um pouco mais dele, mas o que vemos aqui é um filme interessante e com pouca ambição. Um grande acerto foi fugir quase que todo o filme dos clichês dos filmes americanos sobre um mudo "colapsado", aqui no caso Paris é dominada por uma neblina/fumaça que sai de algum lugar após um terremoto. E a trama segue um casal que possui uma filha com uma doença raríssima que faz ela ter que viver em uma bolha com tudo 100% limpo, além de querer sobreviver o casal precisa salvar sua filha... O filme mostra essa boa trama familiar, traz elementos de ação e drama com bons diálogos, principalmente quando envolvem o casal de idosos que abriga a família , mas parece que o filme deixa aquela sensação de que faltou algo, ou seja, ambição de querer ser um pouco mais. 𝐀 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐲 The apocalyptic disaster movie A Breath Away has quite a unique premise – one made more relevant since the film’s release. After an unexpected earthquake hits Europe, a massive cloud of mysterious toxic gas envelopes Paris. The story centers on the parents of a girl suffering from an autoimmune disease that forces her to live in a “bubble”, a sealed capsule. The toxic cloud kills anyone breathing it in, and after it settles in Paris, it doesn’t seem to dissolve at all. Upon release, the premise seemed too far-fetched for its own good, but after the onset of COVID and the perpetual pandemic we find ourselves in, the French film has gotten more relevance. The characters are stuck in apartment buildings to avoid the poison, there is a devastating death toll, people are only able to go out wearing masks, no resolution to the situation seems to be in sight… Sounds familiar. You may have trouble finding the film, as it’s released with many different English titles (including Toxic, Hold Your Breath, Just a Breath Away), but the original French title is Dans La Brume (“In the Fog”). While the film eventually functions as a metaphor for the future belonging to new generations, along with a somewhat vague, a bit clunky environmental message, it delightfully leans more into its genre than the symbolism of it all. Still, the allegorical ending is a nice touch. A tad nonsensical, sure, and not to all tastes, but we liked it. A Breath Away offers plenty of stunning images over Parisian rooftops as the yellow poison gas fills the streets below. Olga Kurylenko, not often the strongest actor, is actually pretty good here. It’s a beautifully shot film with a rather simple, but effective suspense plot, confined spaces and an original subject. It may require suspension of disbelief and just going along with it instead of expecting spelled out explanations for whatever it is that’s happening here, but if you’re able to do that, there’s a bit more depth to the French-Canadian sci-fi film than your average disaster flick. Ο Πωλ γοητεύεται από την ομορφιά της αλλά και από το ελεύθερο πνεύμα της και θέλει να βρίσκεται διαρκώς κοντά της, παρά την έντονη επισήμανση της διευθύντριας της κλινικής σχετικά με την επικίνδυνη ψυχική κατάσταση της κοπέλας. "Μικρή" ταινία από το σινεμά του Βελγίου που μας έχει συνηθίσει σε αυτήν τη γοητευτική και αλλόκοτη σκοτεινιά της θεματολογίας του που πολλές φορές παντρεύεται με μια ονειρική διάθεση ουτοπικής αισιοδοξίας. Στην περίπτωσή μας, παρακολουθούμε αυτό το σαν σε παραμύθι ταξίδι στο άγνωστο μέσα από τα αθώα μάτια του Πωλ που ξαφνικά μεταμορφώνεται σε ιππότη-σωτήρα, προστατεύοντας την αγαπημένη του, με πείσμα και αποφασιστικότητα. Το ξύπνημα του έρωτα, η εξαναγκαστική ενηλικίωση και εν τέλει η λατρεία (όπως είναι και ο τίτλος της ταινίας) που τρέφει για την κοπέλα αυτή, καθοδηγούν τις πράξεις του πέραν πάσης λογικής. Road movie με πρωταγωνιστές αυτά τα δύο παιδιά (είναι εξαιρετικός ο πιτσιρικάς Τομά Τζοριά που υποδύεται τον Πωλ), παρέα με την ερημιά και τη γαλήνη του τοπίου, όπως αποτυπώνεται από τη φωτογραφία του Μανυέλ Ντεκός αλλά και από την ιδιαίτερη φροντίδα που έχει δοθεί στον ήχο. Αγνό μα κατά κάποιον τρόπο βίαια σπαρακτικό μέχρι το τέλος.

All of these events are secondary as it is not about the story behind the drama but the characters themselves. This is a very subtle black comedy where the comedic element is bleak and lightly hovers over the film through its entire course. 📽 Happy End : 6,5/10 Contre toute attente, j’ai apprécié "Happy End" de Michael Haneke (malgré les avis tièdes/négatifs que j’ai lus par-ci, par-là). Effectivement, il vaut mieux être dans un bon mood pour regarder ce film (on parle quand même d’une famille toxique dont les membres ont tenté le suicide, sont brisés intérieurement ou maltraitent leurs proches). Michael Haneke parvient ainsi à bien épouser le point de vue de chacun de ses personnages, en mettant à nu leur vulnérabilité de manière frontale ou lointaine (cf. les scènes filmées de loin qui font très "docufiction" et font appel à l’imagination du public). Il parvient aussi à nous faire interroger sur le regard qu’on peut avoir de l’être humain et de la société à travers nos écrans. Mais personnellement, c’est surtout le jeune personnage d‘Ève qui m’a touché (il faut dire aussi que son intrigue est la plus intéressante, tant elle est à la fois glauque et poignante). Sans sa présence, je pense que j’aurais moins aimé ce film. 🎬 '𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗱' (𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟳) 🇦🇹 👤 Dirección: Michael Haneke. ⏱️ Duración: 110 minutos. Película austríaca de género dramático, la cual supone el largometraje más reciente del director. Fue seleccionada para el Festival de Cine de Cannes como candidata a llevarse la Palma de Oro, su máximo galardón. Los Laurent son una familia acomodada perteneciente a la alta burguesía que vive en Calais (Francia), zona de tránsito de migrantes de diversas nacionalidades y que además alberga campamentos para miles de refugiados. Lejos de ser la familia perfecta, los diversos integrantes que la conforman, desde el miembro más joven hasta el más mayor, procuran ocultar en su día a día sus deseos más oscuros y guardar las apariencias. Una vez vista, mi opinión con respecto a ella es que se trata de una obra menor que carece de intensidad dentro del habitual cine de Haneke. Incompleta, lineal y sin demasiada chicha. Por lo demás, el film posee muchas de las características propias que definen a otras obras de este director: planos secuencia, personajes fríos, viciados y con una doble vida, algunos silencios, pinceladas de violencia 'light' y de comedia negra, además de la incorporación de algunos medios de comunicación digital vistos en primera persona. Muchos la conciben como una especie de secuela o continuación de la oscarizada 'Amour' (2012), con la cual es cierto que comparte sus indudables similitudes. Asimismo, 'Happy End' hace guiños a otras películas anteriores del director, tales como 'La pianista' (2001), 'La cinta blanca' (2009) o 'El vídeo de Benny' (1992), entre otras. Se podría contemplar la posibilidad de que Haneke ha querido autohomenajearse con esta película, aun con un resultado final algo insípido y olvidable. Adoration (2019) 💏💏💏💏💏 5/5 The last film in Fabrice du Welz's trilogy. The atmosphere these films create is pretty unique, I'd have a hard time comparing them to anything else; Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures maybe... but not really, certainly in that the 2 kids are obsessed with eachother. Foggy and detached, half awake, a slow uneasiness. These 3 are the only du Welz's films I have seen so I don't know if this style is maintained throughout his work or if it's unique to the trilogy but I love it. 🚨Spoilers🚨 Paul, a 12 year old boy lives with his mother in the countryside. They never come right out and say it but I think Paul is getting Bad Boy Bubbied by his mother. He becomes infatuated with a patient at the psychiatric hospital his mother works at who seems to have a real easy time escaping, Gloria. Gloria is bat shit crazy and is clearly the victim of S abuse, if that is the cause of or just exacerbating her mental state is never fully dealt with. After convincing Paul to help her escape once and for all he becomes a reluctant participant in Gloria's paranoia some of it very justifiable. Paul will do anything to make Gloria feel safe but when it becomes clear that Paul is in over his head and Gloria needs more help than Paul will ever be able to give; Gloria's feeling of betrayal is palpable.
