Maniac (2012) is another rewatch for me, but it’s probably been at least a decade since I first saw it. This is a remake of Maniac (1980) by William Lustig, I haven’t seen the original but I think now I might have to give it a watch. Frank is a very shy, socially awkward man who owns a mannequin store that he inherited from his family. Frank is also a very disturbed man and LA is his playground. When an artist named Anna comes across his mannequin shop, Franks dark desires start to become even more uncontrollable than ever. This is a violent and gory slasher movie. It really starts off strong with the violence and then backs off a bit to build up the story, then smacks you in the face with more gore and violence. If you have a weak stomach or get uncomfortable with slashers, this definitely isn’t the movie for you. This was done from Frank’s point of view; which definitely added to the creepiness and discomfort. Seeing the violence through his eyes made it more shocking and startling at times. He struggles with some pretty serious mental health issues and the delusions mix so seamlessly with his reality, giving a little extra insight into why he is this way. This movie isn’t for everyone, it’s a violent and bloody whirlwind of psychosis, mommy issues and murder. It definitely crosses into the realm of body horror in the last 40 minutes or so and the final few scenes are intense. For this week’s TERROR TUESDAY, @outpost31comics digs ups a little known & very HTF promo comic that features one of the great what ifs in horror comics. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD Published in 1990 by FANTACO By Steve Bissette and Tom Skulan In 1991, FANTACO, publisher of the infamous horror anthology GORE SHRIEK, released a four issue adaptation of George Romero & John Russo’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. The series was fully painted by Carlos Kastro, who did a killer job at recreating the legendary film. But the book was originally supposed to be fully painted by a legend in the comic field, especially horror, Steve Bissette. Most famous for collaborating with Alan Moore on his 1980s SWAMP THING run. Bissette, at the time, was working with FANTACO as an editor on GORE SHRIEK, and ended up having a falling out with FANTACO. This led to Bissette leaving GORE SHRIEK at the end of the first volume and exiting the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD project before the completion of the first issue. The only lasting vestige of what could have been is an 8-page promo comic that FANTACO put out as a giveaway to retailers and conventions. It features Bissette’s amazingly grotesque take on Romero’s zombie classic. In just a few panels, Bissette showcases what could have been... Adventures into the Unknown 27 (January 1952) featuring quite a few horror stories this anthology series was one of the first horror series premiering in 1948 by ACG (American Comics Group) this book is one that caught my attention right away when I saw it on the wall at @tardys_comics a few weeks back but it was out of my price range then when I went back the other day I saw it sitting in a box on the counter instead of on the wall and was shocked to see it still there. When I got home I messaged them and hoped to do a trade Gavin was super nice and we were able to come to an agreement that I was more than happy with. Not a super rare book *59 on CGC* but when I went looking online I didn’t find many options (only 3 on eBay) and none were raw. With a triple threat cover of a Vampire, Reaper and a zombie by Ken Bald this is one I’ll be super excited to see on my wall above my desk. I absolutely loved all the actors together in this movie, casting was flawless, they worked together so good and had a great dynamic! Horror , comedy and dance, with a unique concept. Alisha Weir did a amazing job with her character, really stood out. The dance and fight scenes were choreographed perfect. Every horror fan needs to give this one a watch. This was another case of sneaking my mom’s copy off her bookshelf at a probably too young age. Aussi sanguinaire qu'addictif 🔨 📕 Philomela Drax et sa mère, Mary, vivent modestement à New Egypt. Un jour, Mary reçoit une lettre de son père qui l'avait pourtant reniée une vingtaine d'années auparavant et lui demande de venir à son secours, dans la ferme qu'il possède. Ce dernier partage désormais sa vie avec la femme de son défunt fils, mais aussi le nouveau mari et la belle-fille de cette dernière. Il les soupçonne d'en vouloir à sa fortune et de vouloir porter atteinte à sa vie. ❤️ J'ai adoré les destins croisés des personnages qui se fuient mais qui en même temps se retrouvent à chaque fois pour le pire. L'aspect manichéen m'a un peu dérangée cependant, les "méchants" ne sont absolument pas contrastés et les "gentils" ne le sont pas vraiment non plus. La vengeance en elle-même est plutôt secondaire, c'est à mon sens, plus le karma qui joue un rôle important dans l'avenir des personnages. Le destin de certains personnages n'en reste pas moins jouissif pour le lecteur! Le livre souligne les inégalités sociales et le pouvoir de l'argent. Le côté financier est une thématique très importante dans l'intrigue et cela nous amène à des problématiques réalistes qui font tout autant froid dans le dos que la cruauté des crimes évoqués dans l'œuvre. La violence envers les animaux ne m'a pas laissée insensible (si vous aimez les chiens, accrochez vous!). Le rythme de l'oeuvre et le style rendent la lecture addictive. Je garderai un très bon souvenir de ma lecture! Review Cows by Matthew Stokoe ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Here it is folks, the book that’s finally tested my limits. Cows is without a doubt the most vulgar, disgusting, infuriating, confused, and mind numbing novel I have read to date, and that’s notwithstanding the fact that it is eloquent, poetic, and totally unique. I’ve not read a book quite like this ever, and there’s a big part of me that never wants to read one like it again. I will, but I might need a hug and some soothing words of encouragement first! I did toy with the idea of stopping, but I’m glad I didn’t. Because… There comes a point in this novel where Bessie well and truly leaves the barn, if you catch my drift? When an otherwise meticulous constructed piece a gross out literature wanders off into a fugue that borders on farce. I kept waiting for some explosive reveal, like maybe the MMC has sustained some catastrophic head injury, and it’s all a concussion dream. Nope! It’s played as the real deal, but the joy that Stokoe displays, and his audacity in daring to commit this weird little book to paper are alone worth the price of purchase. It’s transcendent and utterly bizarre. Read at your own risk though. There’s some stuff in here that’ll take a very long time to hose out of your consciousness.
