For those unfamiliar with the director's style, his films are generally character studies of urban life in southern Italy. This one focuses on a Romani family experiencing chronic economic instability as a fringe culture/community from a coming-of-age perspective. Usually, the dynamics of specific socioeconomic and family settings are depicted to tell the story in an observational exposition. He uses non-actors and, in some cases, entire families to illustrate a cinematic realism he can harness from a more natural setting that carries a unique intimacy onto the screen. Ob Fußball, Basketball, Hockey oder Golf - die filmische Bandbreite ist groß. Ich habe mich für einen Film von 2017 entschieden, in dem es um Eiskunstlauf geht: ⛸ I, TONYA ❄ Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie) wuchs in mehr als schwierigen Verhältnissen auf. Doch schon als Kind hatte sie großes Talent im Eiskunstlauf. Die jahrelange harte Arbeit soll sich nun auch endlich auszahlen. Bei den US-amerikanischen Meisterschaften im Vorfeld zu den Olympischen Spielen 1994 in Lillehammer kommt es aber zu einem folgenschweren Anschlag auf Tonyas größte Konkurrentin. Hat Tonya mit dem Vorfall etwas zu tun? Eine unglaubliche aber wahre Geschichte, unterhaltsam und fesselnd erzählt. Der Film erzählt diese mittels Interviews der Charaktere im Mocumentary-Stil. In Rückblicken erfahren wir mehr über die Kindheit der Hauptfigur und die Beziehungen zu ihrer Mutter und ihrem Mann. Watched this movie with my grandma after The Farm movie. I didn't liked this one. It wasn't scary and it was pretty boring. Almost the whole movie i was on my phone, my grandma after watching this for like 20minutes fell asleep. I could've just turned this movie off but i wanted to finish it because i was more that a halfway in so i was like "let's just finish it and see the end". Not to spoil but that family really just died because they didn't wanted their son in a cult but at the end their sacrifice didn't changed anything... If i'd turn on this movie to watch a scary movie on my own this would be a waste of time. A Russian woman living alone in a small village receives a returned package meant for her incarcerated husband. Setting out to find out why, we follow her on a journey and she serves almost as a tour guide of a community, revealing a fractured nation through a wide cast of characters all who have their own unique story. Inspired by Dostoyevsky’s story of the same title but a loose inspiration. Though the woman we follow is in most every shot, she is often not the focus and we get to see everything around her more intimately, which gives the film an Altman like quality where you are just absorbing the inner workings of a community in its day to day life. Lost nationalism, assimilation, patriarchy, corruption and an endless list of themes are represented and, while it appears as dramatic realism, it crosses genres into a bleak fantasy and timelessness with vignettes of an constantly churning nightmare. This film is dense and there is so much going on that a review could not possibly touch on all of it. Happy End. Austria/France/Germany, 2017. Director Michael Haneke. Again, Haneke examines the upper class in a dysfunctional family who are thematically all alone. Eve, a misanthropic 12 year old girl in the center of this family suggests her muted compassion is nurtured by her surroundings. Her grandfather is suffering from dementia, her parents are divorced, her father is in a relationship but having an affair, and her mother is in the hospital. All of these events are secondary as it is not about the story behind the drama but the characters themselves. This is a very subtle black comedy where the comedic element is bleak and lightly hovers over the film through its entire course.
