The pierogis were almost as good as those from Holocaust survivor Berta Vaisman @gojuanitago these were made with potato in the dough, gnocchi-like. Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies original recipe by Melinda Strauss 1 cup raw/pure tahini (only ingredient should be sesame seeds) 6 Tbsp pure maple syrup 2 large eggs 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 cup chocolate chips (plus extra for the top of the cookies) coarse sea salt, optional topping sprinkles, optional topping Preheat oven to 350 degrees f. and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the tahini, maple syrup, egg, vanilla extract, and baking soda. Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour into two long logs on the baking sheet and use a spatula to shape the dough. The dough will seem flat but it will puff up! If you want to bake it in a tin for thicker cookie sticks, that works too but bake for an additional 5 minutes. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven and sprinkle the top with chocolate chips and some coarse sea salt. Slice into sticks on the baking sheet and set aside to cool. *if you would like a crunchier cookie, like a biscotti, slice the cookies and then place back in the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes. #tahinicookies #israelfood #jewishfood #amyisraelchai

Passover Seder is about being thoughtful and reinventing old and cruel traditions. 🎧The E-matzah-pation of Mimi @mariahcarey A couple days ago, I hosted my annual ‘hey, it’s Passover’ dinner 🎉party. And since it was a smaller gathering than usual, I decided to keep it simple, with a menu that featured a 🧀cheeseboard, with matzah standing in for crackers, and matzah ball 🥣soup. Dessert was a 🍵matcha icebox cake, layered with 🍫chocolate-covered matzah instead of 🍪cookies. Now, in a 😮shocking twist, I actually allowed myself to enjoy the moment without taking pics. But I had fun staging some of the leftovers later on, like the fully 🥕🍗loaded bowl of soup you see in this shot. The icebox 🍰cake, which was great aside from a few clumps of matcha that refused to dissolve😳, follows. THANK YOU to everyone for being so understanding about not having bagels yesterday. After we got the notice about pie fest being canceled, I made the decision that we should not invest any additional resources (labor, kitchen time, ingredients) into this week. So we finished our projects & cleaned up. This meant we only had pre-packaged deli / schmear / krauts / (limited) baked goods at @atwatervillagefm yesterday & I worked by myself at the market. Except for a few folks, everyone was so kind & understanding. One of our regulars, who is maybe 8yo, burst into tears upon hearing there were no bagels. This made me feel a lot of things. Knowing we are a favorite part of this child's week, means a lot to me. We'll be back to bageling this week. And post-Passover pre-orders, which include our challah & babka, will be open later today. I’ve been pushing off making challah for weeks because I get in my own head about how long the process is going to take. Do you ever do that? Tell yourself something is going to take too long or will be so hard but when you finally do it, you realize it was all just in your head? Baking challah is such a beautiful spiritual experience for Jewish women and I am sharing this video as a reminder to myself next time I want to make challah that I shouldn’t push it off or I’ll be missing out on this feeling. ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ Today’s post from ethnojunkie.com: The Fifth Question On a very recent visit to Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach, I stopped by a modest bakery and was surprised to see that they were displaying their own rendition of what appeared to be chocolate coated matzos. I knew chocolate coated matzos to be a Passover specialty that always came in a box branded Streit’s or Manischewitz – which prompted me to wonder, “Why is this chocolate coated matzo different from all other chocolate coated matzos?” So I bought one to take home. In deference to the holiday season, I will avoid the word “miraculous” but it was unexpectedly delicious. So much so, in fact, that I returned the next day to purchase another four – in case of breakage in transit, I told myself, but I wasn’t fooling anybody. And the answer to the fifth question? The first bite communicates rich, milk chocolate with a little matzo as a counterpoint. Manischewitz (on the right) tastes like matzo with a de minimis layer of chocolatey glaze; it’s okay if it’s all you’ve ever sampled, but the blob of chocolate on the left plate is a clue to its nature. Of course, that unpredictable dollop comes with a price: with that much chocolate, matzo is bound to sacrifice its crispness as compared with the matzo-ex-machina perfection of the packaged version, but it’s one well worth making IMHO. And yes, of course I will reveal the provenance of this unusual delicacy. Pour Pessah 🍷j’ai décidé de réalisé cette « lasagne » de légumes et de matzoh 🫓 délicieusement agrémentée de viande pur bœuf 🥩 —> j’ai commencé par une couche de viande de bœuf 🥩 mélangée aux mixte de légumes d’été 🌞 (aubergines 🍆, courgettes 🥒, tomates 🍅, poivrons 🫑) ensuite je place une couche de matzoh 🫓 puis je recommence avec une couche de viande et de légumes et je termine par une couche de matzoh 🫓. Pour la touche finale j’ajoute du fauxmage (du soja façon mozzarella kasheroute oblige ✡️). Pour la cuisson, une vingtaine de minutes au four à 180 degrés. Day 6: Today was going to be a writing day. Instead its been a day of brutal parenting challenges. We are beyond exhausted in every way a person can be. I’ve been pushing off making challah for weeks because I get in my own head about how long the process is going to take. Do you ever do that? Tell yourself something is going to take too long or will be so hard but when you finally do it, you realize it was all just in your head? Baking challah is such a beautiful spiritual experience for Jewish women and I am sharing this video as a reminder to myself next time I want to make challah that I shouldn’t push it off or I’ll be missing out on this feeling. As a side note: anyone can make challah, not just Jewish people. I believe food is meant to be shared between cultures.
