I recieved the news last week that I have been featured as a 'SA Woman to Watch of 2024'. I am very grateful to be nominated and chosen. This past year has been one of the hardest for me with my health conditions taking over so much of my capacity, especially my POTS. But I have continued to arrive to support those that I connect with within my business and do my best to always provide a genuine and meaningful service and support at Southern Social Work and Counselling Services I am so thankful for my subcontractors at SSWCS for being wholesome humans and my husband Urvf who honestly I could not do life without. He has been the most incredibly supportive husband though everything and I wouldn't be able to keep going without his unwavering support. Community is such an important focus for SSWCS this year. Individuals and families are so incredibly isolated, especially when living with disability and/or mental health struggles, and for carers. When I wanted to be a social worker, all I ever wanted was to be the mental health clinician I never had. Who actually stuck in with someone, supported them in the good and the bad and didn't sit there creating action plans or without them, because without a base level of support and basic needs, including just being heard, you can't build capacity. Connection is key. My health is not great still, I have days I can't be vertical, but I will continue to push through on the days I can and I will always find a way to support my community. Action: They went to their GP, gave them the support letter and GP was a tad grumpy at the letter but the participant felt safer with another professionals words as theirs were being ignored. The GP sent a 2nd referral through to ADHD assessor with the recent report. #5 Leading upto ADHD appt, I supported them with 2 coaching sessions so they understood what the appointments could be like. This helped them ground their anxiety and feel safe with planning out what they could say and have some ideas of pre scripting if they needed. #6 I supported them with connecting into a new GP, as they had recognised that their current GP was being very judgemental.
