Last Wednesday we hade three lovely volunteers from #virginmediao2 in helping Angie clear and tidy the Turnstyle garden. 😀👏🌿🌻 They all worked so hard and by 11am they had managed to fill a skips worth of rubbish, an old garden shed and a raised flower bed. Dianne was working one day a week as a security guard in Regina, and had joined our Creative Employment Options program looking to work full-time in security or retail. At a young age, she had been diagnosed with Dyslexia, which has made reading and writing difficult for her, often missing words and confusing the numbers 3 and 8. Working with her Job Developer and learning new interview skills, Dianne's hard work paid off when she landed a full-time position with a security company. On Wednesday 1st May we will be back with the very popular online workshop ‘SEND Support in Schools; The Graduated Approach/Response’. There are only a few spaces left so make sure you book on! This is an online information session which will take you through the legal responsibility that all schools (in England) have to make reasonable adjustments for their SEN pupils, whether they have a diagnosis or not! This applies to all SEN students, even those WITHOUT an EHCP! Talking you through everything your child/young persons education setting SHOULD be implementing to support for those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, reSEND Founder and Director ISA Liz Stanley will be covering: • SEND Legislation in Schools • SEND Support in Schools • The Graduated Approach/Response • And what you can do next when those support systems have been exhausted. The suggested donation includes all handouts and access to a recording of your workshop for a month following the session, so even if you can’t attend it live, you can still watch the workshop in your own time. Dr. Adams was honored to speak at the 2024 Co-Occurring conference hosted by Expanse MN and Progress Valley this past month. 🌟 During the conference, Dr. Adams shared her insights on how individuals with ADHD are at increased risk for experiencing substance use disorders. This discussion highlighted how the ADHD brain is more susceptible to the compulsive reward-seeking cycle that is at the root of substance misuse. 🔍 Dr. Adams also provided strategies to support people with ADHD and substance use disorders through: ✅ Dissolving shame through a better understanding of the brain differences that make them more susceptible ✅ Treating the underlying ADHD as part of the recovery process Additionally, an important reminder to take away is that medication treatment for ADHD is not a violation of sobriety. 🚫 Let's empower people with ADHD and substance use disorders by taking a compassionate approach to support and treatment of both conditions. 🧠🤝 If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call at (651) 964-2020!

Social stories are a great way of helping people with autism to learn new things which could be challenging. They cover anything from brewing up in the office to using public transport, or preparing for date night. Social stories give them an insight into what happens along the way, and they can tailored to meet a person's needs. Stuart, who is part of our Marketing Team and on the autism spectrum himself, has created this social story.
