Usad a los irlandeses ¨ Está semana en nuestro Videoclub Casablanca llega Braveheart, una pelicula clave en la época en la que mi padre y yo íbamos todos los sábados mano a mano al cine. Por ello perdonad si me pongo un tanto melancólico, ya que me traslada a una época de mi vida que, por desgracia, jamás podré recuperar. La dirección a cargo de Mel Gibson es simplemente brillante, elevando así su carrera como director tras " El hombre sin rostro ", una opera prima muy a tener en cuenta. Aunque, es en Braveheart, donde radica su mejor pelicula de lejos, una obra perfectamente recreada, interpretada y con una fotografía espectacular, llena de planos que quitan el hipo y una belleza en la imagen para intentar captar la magia de las tierras irlandesas. A nivel interpretativo, Gibson da vida a William Wallace, un personaje con mucha fuerza y vitalismo. Pero el resto del reparto no queda atrás, cumpliendo con su cometido de, o simpatizar contigo, o que les cojas una tirria increíble, como es el caso del villano Patrick McGoohan. Su historia se basa en la primera guerra de la independencia de escocia, la cual que esté adaptada muy ligeramente no quita que sea una pelicula impresionante, con grandes escenas que quedan para el recuerdo y con una impresionante banda sonora a cargo de James Horner, el cual emplea musica celta de primer nivel para darle una calidad en alguno de sus temas que hacen que persistan con el paso de los años, sobre todo el tema romántico. Estamos ante una gran historia de amor, guerra, crueldad y venganza. La lucha de un pueblo por su libertad , cuyo guión hace que sus 3 horas pasen volando y que el interés no decaiga en ningun momento de metraje. As promised, here are a few proper pics of the 1/6 scale NUMBER 6 custom I posted last week. Most folks agree Patrick McGoohan’s PRISONER series (1967) was a direct sequel to his earlier SECRET AGENT show (DANGER MAN in the UK), although he refused to verify that himself. This custom action figure was a kit produced by Alex Cohn at Amego a while back. It came with everything you need to make this beautiful figure, and a few extras! All you’re required to do is paint the head and shoes, then assemble. You’ll also need to peg the shoes to attach them to the body. I believe the head sculpt is the amazing work of Inigo Gil. The clothes are tailored by Toribox, the shoes and statue are the work of Tyler Ham. My kit is Number 1 of only 15 produced, BUT (and this is your prize for reading until the end!), Alex still has most of the parts for the figures hanging around for sale if you’re interested. My life is my own.” Here’s my latest 1/6 custom figure, ‘Number Six’ from the 1967 TV series PRISONER, a follow up to his very popular SECRET AGENT series (featuring the Johnny Rivers ‘Secret Agent Man’ theme). The PRISONER is considered by many to be a sequel of sorts to that series, though McGoohan refused to verify this. It follows a former secret agent who has inexplicably resigned from the agency. Because he refuses to explain his resignation and due to his vast knowledge of classified information, he is drugged and placed in the “Village” to live out his life. Until he explains himself, at least. There he encounters all manner of weirdness including the Rover sentries; large white balloon like beings (in fact, they WERE balloons) which envelope and incapacitate anyone who expresses an ounce of individuality or independence. Very little is explained (in fact it isn’t even clear which side has imprisoned him), but this hodge podge of ’60’s craziness is like nothing else ever broadcast. It’s surprising, frustrating and leaves you at the end of the 17th episode saying “What the heck was THAT?!” The figure is a kit by AMEGO which produced it in an edition of 15. Mine is #1. Being a kit, all I had to do was paint the head and shoes and put him together! Apparently actor Mark Eden said in an interview that when making this scene in It's Your Funeral he seriously started to think that Patrick might actually kill him. By that stage the pressure of producing, writing and starring was beginning to show for Patrick and he was getting increasingly erratic, with public sackings, people starting one morning and just vanishing before lunch and very public dressings down. Review Scanners 1981 Blu-ray Rating: 4.5/5 Scanners is a sci fi-horror film that showcases David Cronenberg’s style for a more commercial audience and delivers a haunting experience. Filmmaker David Cronenberg was a writer-director with a unique perspective and this film elevated him from his indie roots into the mainstream. The film carries all the trademarks that make for a Cronenberg experience, but instead of a straight forward horror film, we’re provided something much deeper. The film shifts tone throughout and the deliberate pace of the story makes for an unsettling momentum that encourages the viewer to stay with this universe Cronenberg has created. The shocking introduction to the scanners themselves is outlandishly over the top and it remains one of those moments that lingers with audiences. Michael Ironside is just incredible as the central antagonist and he is terrifying. It’s interesting Cronenberg choices to use Ironside sporadically as most directors would increase his role to increase the tension. This is where the film subverts viewers expectations and pushes us into the underbelly of this corporation, revealing a deeper world beneath. It’s a haunting experience from beginning to end and Cronenberg never allows his audience to slip away. It’s a unique viewing experience and one that infuses real life stories involving pharmaceutical companies gone unchecked. My primary reason for attending this year’s Prisoner convention in Wales was to see Catherine McGoohan speak about her father and his brilliant crazy TV show. She is a true keeper of the flame and warm, witty, and lovely. The convention itself has been a ton of fun. I told her privately that I’d seen the short film she acted in for Jonathan Del Arco (the Borg, Hugh, in one of my favorite Star Trek Next Generation episodes). She was pleasantly surprised and texted Del Arco who responded with “Wow!” I was over the moon. Nerd heaven!
