Columbo - Subconscient (Saison 3 épisode 4) Avec Peter Falk (Columbo) et Robert Culp (Dr. Bart Keppel) - Sur TMC 💛📺 (Diffusion aux États-Unis le 16 décembre 1973 sur NBC et en France le 22 novembre 1974 sur la 1ère Chaîne ORTF) - Le Dr Bart Keppel, chercheur en techniques de publicité et éditeur de films publicitaires, a des difficultés relationnelles avec son client, Victor Norris. Ce dernier le menace de raconter à la police qu'il provoque un chantage à l'encontre de ses clients avec un mannequin, Tanya, pour obtenir davantage d'argent de leur part que ce qui est convenu initialement par contrat. Keppel fomente donc l'assassinat de son client et commence par lui faire manger du caviar très salé, sachant que Norris en est friand. Tandis que le publicitaire projette un film à une dizaine de personnes dont il lit le texte depuis les coulisses, il patiente le temps que des images subliminales, qu'il a lui-même insérées dans le film, fassent leur effet et incitent Norris à sortir de la salle pour boire dans le couloir d'à côté. Keppel laisse un enregistrement préétabli de sa voix continuer à prononcer le texte afin de sortir de la salle en toute discrétion. Norris est alors tué par Keppel, qui replace ensuite son arme dans son présentoir et reprend la place de narrateur comme si de rien n'était. Les indices qu'il laisse pointent (assez maladroitement) vers Mrs Norris. Columbo est intrigué par la présence d'un magnétophone qui en ces lieux est incongru, ainsi que par le sang-froid surprenant de Keppel dans les minutes qui ont suivi la découverte du corps. Le projectionniste, Roger White, a quant à lui découvert d'autres indices qui lui font comprendre que Keppel est l'assassin. Every time this episode of Columbo turns up I wonder whose cattleyas were in the suspect’s greenhouse. The episode is of an era where it wouldn’t be unusual to see a herd of corsage orchids all blooming simultaneously at prom season. The flowers catch my eye each time as the actors are careful around them, rarely brushing a leaf or disturbing a petal. Even when Columbo brandishes his wife’s African violet-“she’ll kill me if I forget this!” He digs it out from amidst the larger pots with delicacy. He does a lot less flailing about in the greenhouse, several long and important scenes are shot within the greenhouse, enough that they should’ve been credited as extras. Anyone left out there who can imagine the studio calling and asking for 200 cattleyas in bloom- or better yet- can we come shoot at your place? Columbo (the show itself) was noted for the use of interesting locations, both interiors and exteriors- and it is an elaborate little glass house style greenhouse, with elegant wrought iron filigree. Je lui file une autre clope et je rentre. J’écoute des Nocturnes de Chopin et je m’allonge avec ce livre. Dans mes souvenirs, Les seins de glace, de Matheson, est un bon livre. Celui-ci, je ne sais plus. Tout ce que je sais, c’est que Matheson est mort deux ans jour pour jour après Peter Falk. Et ça me suffit.

Glory Be by Danielle Arceneaux 4⭐️ Glory Broussard is an old school hustler with an eye for shifty people and a nose made for snooping. When her best friend is found dead, she gets to put all her skills to work finding the truth. I enjoy a good cozy mystery, and I like that this one is set in Louisiana. We get touches of Cajun culture, a bit of Black history, and even a bit of current day racism. It's a bit of a hodgepodge with humor, romance, and mystery, but it comes together like a nice Jambalaya. From family feuds and bitter old ladies in extravagant hats to kids hiding things from their parents, we’ve got a bit of everything. Glory is your standard Southern nosey neighbor, who knows everyone’s business, believes in God and getting paid, and takes tradition seriously. Some of the stuff that happens is wild, but a lot of the book is filled with average daily life, hence the cozy. I would definitely pick up the next book in the series.
