I've been hoarding a bit of data in preparation for winter but that seems to be late this year. I've sat on this for a couple of months as I've never been happy with the end result, but I think I've finally gotten something I like. The Whirling Dervish and Banana Nebula together in one image. Located 14,000 light-years away the centre of the Whirling Dervish is quite an interesting region containing around 2,200 young stars in a tight 400 light-year wide area with 200 of those having dust disks which may form protoplanets similar to the young Earth. Imaged on a 150mm F/4 Newtonian Telescope 🔭 with 60 hours of integration. #astrophotography #astronomy #milkyway #space #universe #astro #galaxy #cosmos #nebula #stars #stargazing #hubble #moon #sun #lunar #solar #noclouds #nosleep #skywatcher #zwo #primalucelab

Taken from my Balcony last month, this image shows M106, an intermediate spiral galaxy located in the constellation Canes Venatici. It’s situated approximately 23.5 million light-years away from Earth. M106 is notable for its distinctive features, including a central bar and prominent spiral arms. At its center lies a supermassive black hole with an estimated mass of around 40 million times that of the Sun. At the bottom of the image NGC4217 can be seen. It is an edge-on spiral galaxy which lies approximately 60 million light-years away. #M106 #ngc4258 #ngc4217 #galaxy #teleskop_service #ritcheychretien #iAmSkyWatcher #omegon #optolongfilters #primalucelab #pixinsight #apod #nasaapod #astronomypicturesdaily #astromaniacmag #passioneastrofotografia #telescope #astrophotography #ig_astrophotography #backyardastrophotography #cosmospic #longexposure #nightscaper #nightsky #deepsky #stargazing 🔭 @teleskop_service TS-Optics GSO 6“ Ritchey-Chretien Pro reduced to F6 on @sky_watcher_official HEQ5 pro 📷 @omegonoptics Pro veTEC 571 C @ -15 °C ⏱ 121 x 240 s = 8.07 h with light pollution @optolongfilter L-Pro filter 🔲 Calibrated with 50 bias and 50 flat frames 💻 Captured with N.I.N.A., guided with PHD2 and postprocessed in PixInsight with BlurXTerminator, StarXTerminator and NoiseXTerminator

Being made up of massive molecular clouds of dust and gas it is not something I've paid much attention to when the bright and colourful nebula steal the show. I love globular clusters with their concentration of stars, symmetry and subtle colours.157 have been identified orbiting the halo of the Milky Way. M3 has an estimated half million stars and is about 34,000 light years from Earth. Globular clusters are quite old and stable and formed early in the development of our galaxy. M3 is in Canes Venatici, or Hunting Dogs constellation but is relatively close to the bright Arcturus in neighbouring, Bootes. I love the mix of red and blue stars. #astrophotography #williamoptics #dso #zwoastronomycameras #primalucelab #skyshed

Galaxy hunting is my business...and business is good! Perhaps one of the Southern Hemisphere's most famous targets Centaurus A is the 5th brightest galaxy in our sky making it extremely easy to image in a short period of time. In saying that 2 of my nights were hampered by Perth's notorious wind and poor upper atmosphere turbulence making tracking at 1000mm a nightmare. This galaxy has been part of heavy debate surrounding its classification as it appears to have been part of a galactic merger between massive elliptical and spiral galaxies causing an abnormal amount of star formation although this hasn't been confirmed and some still believe it is actually a lenticular type galaxy defined by the large dust lane running across the middle. Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks is still a beautiful sight if you can manage to see it these days. The western skies are rarely very clear at my location (Lowbanks, ON), but they sparkled March 28th so I quickly set up and started imaging. Here's what I managed. It's a monochrome image because the camera I used for this doesn't shoot colour. I was setting up to shoot a nebula later in the night when I noticed the sky was clear to the west, so I used what I had available. 28.5 minutes of integration of 90 sec subs, calibrated with flats (Alnitak light panel) and flat darks (25@). I don't know about everyone else but I love this latest deep space image I have captured, I mean have you ever seen so many stars? There is also some mystery to this image, I personally can't find any information on the structures within this image. I have plate solved this image in a couple of programs and not one has been able to inform me as to what object it is. However it looks really cool with the beautiful stars and hydrogen alpha (Red Nebula) regions. I need to continue researching this image to see if I can find anything else on it. This image was captured using my Celestron RASA 8, QHY294M camera and Baader Cmos filters in LRGB Ha and OIII totaling 16 hours of data. #celestron #qhy #baader #primalucelab #astrophotography

The Lambda Centauri Nebula or as it is more well-known The Running Chicken Nebula 🐤 I have imaged part of this region previously with a 1000mm telescope, but it wasn't until I took a step back and started imaging with a 250mm telescope that I was able to capture the whole region. Located around 6500 light-years away this is another massive emission nebula similar to The Carina Nebula which I imaged earlier in the year. This nebula contains several massive Bok globules (The dark spots in the blue area in the 3rd image). They're known to house the formation of new stars but oddly there is no evidence of that in this region. One of my most difficult images yet but also one of the most stress free as it was more of a personal goal out of curiosity. A collection of 1:1 crops of the Hydra cluster of galaxies. The complete image shows a group of 157 bright galaxies all within 10 million light-years of each other and located 158 million light-years away from the Milky Way. The 3 largest galaxies are the 2 elliptical (fuzzy balls) and 1 spiral in the first image and are all as large as our own galaxy at approximately 150,000 light-years across. The 2 large stars are located in our galaxy and for reference are only approximately 500 light-years away. My personal favourite galaxy in the cluster is the perfect barred spiral in the second image. It is theorised our own galaxy looks exactly like that but with a more prominent central bulge. NGC 2392, known as the Eskimo Nebula or Clown Face Nebula, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Gemini. This narrowband image is comprised of 15.6 hours of SII, 5.15 hours of Ha and, 4.8 hours of OIII data. The SII signal was relatively weak, but as I gathered more of it, turned out to provide some interesting detail. Just visible is the very faint outer disk. Captured with a Celestron EdgeHD 9.25, ZWO ASI533MM-Pro and Antlia filters. The visual magnitude of the nebula is 9.1 and estimated to be some 3000 to 5000 light years away. This has eluded me for 2 years whether it be out of commission telescopes or incorrect telescope to camera sensor combinations. The Carina Nebula possibly the crown jewel of the southern sky a nebula to make any astrophotographer in the northern hemisphere jealous. It is a mix of bright and dark nebulosity located approximately 8500 light-years away in Carina-Sagittarius arm of our galaxy. It is four times larger and brighter than the Great Orion Nebula yet not as well-known purely for its location in the southern hemisphere sky. Being so large I've included some cropped images of my favourite regions as the overall image doesn't show off the details this image has. Bubble Nebula NGC 7635 in Cassiopeia . . I chose blue for this infrared nebula because it just works! But wanted to make it closer to purple since it looks like Gojo Satoru’s Hollow Purple haha . . “The seething star forming this nebula is 45 times more massive than our sun. Gas on the star gets so hot that it escapes away into space as a “stellar wind” moving at over 4 million miles per hour. This outflow sweeps up the cold, interstellar gas in front of it, forming the outer edge of the bubble much like a snowplow piles up snow in front of it as it moves forward.” (from Hubblesite.org) . . Imagine a celestial canvas, where the cosmic ballet of creation and destruction is painted in the hues of the infinite. This two-panel mosaic astrophotography image captures the ethereal elegance of the Flying Bat Nebula (Sh2-129) and the Squid Nebula (Ou4), celestial entities nestled in the vast expanse of the night sky. Despite the capricious whims of the UK's weather, which has been less than favorable for stargazing this astronomy season, persistence and passion have culminated over four painstaking months to bring this cosmic vista into view. Though the celestial tapestry is not as densely embroidered with data as initially hoped, the image still resonates with the raw beauty and mystery of the cosmos. The Flying Bat Nebula spreads its nebulous wings in a delicate dance of interstellar matter, while the Squid Nebula, more elusive and enigmatic, floats serenely in the cosmic sea. Each captured through the lens of dedication, these astronomical wonders are a testament to the relentless pursuit of the heavens, even when faced with the earthly challenge of unpredictable skies. The cosmic hand of rebellion. My first image on my new 250mm FL telescope and I love it already. Being able to capture entire regions of our galaxy in one image allows me to show the vastness of our universe. Located approximately 900 light-years away in the constellation Vela, the Vela Supernova Remnant is what is left of a supernova that occurred around 11,000 years ago leaving behind ionised gases taking up an area in our night sky the equivalent of 24 full moons. The explosion was so massive that it would have been seen by pre-civilised humans during the day with only the sun rivalling it for brightest object in the sky. This Photo shows a variety of nebulae within the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. Near the middle of the image is the Horsehead Nebula, designated as Barnard 33 (B 33), which is a dark nebula. It is named for its distinctive shape, which resembles the silhouette of a horse's head. The dark nebula is essentially a dense, opaque region of interstellar dust and gas that obscures the light from background stars and nebulae. Barnard 33 appears in front of the bright emission nebula IC 434, whose ionized hydrogen glows bright red. The Flame Nebula NGC 2024 is an emission nebula situated adjacent to the Horsehead Nebula. It is situated near the easternmost belt star of Orion, Alnitak. It is illuminated by a nearby massive star, causing the surrounding hydrogen gas to emit light, creating the characteristic glow of the emission nebula, which looks like a flame. #B33 #NGC2024 #NGC2023 #horseheadnebula #flamenebula #orion #emissionnebula #reflectionebula #teleskop_service #ritcheychretien #iAmSkyWatcher #omegon #optolongfilters #primalucelab #pixinsight #apod #nasaapod #astronomypicturesdaily #astromaniacmag #passioneastrofotografia #telescope #astrophotography #ig_astrophotography #backyardastrophotography #cosmospic #longexposure #nightscaper #nightsky #deepsky #stargazing 🔭 @teleskop_service TS-Optics GSO 6“ Ritchey-Chretien Pro reduced to F6 on @sky_watcher_official HEQ5 pro 📷 @omegonoptics Pro veTEC 571 C @ -20 °C ⏱ 169 x 300 s = 14.92 h with light pollution @optolongfilter L-Pro filter 💻 Captured with N.I.N.A., guided with PHD2 and postprocessed in PixInsight with BlurXTerminator, StarXTerminator and NoiseXTerminator

On the galactic quest to find a hot chip 🍟. The Seagull Nebula is located approximately 3650 light-years away from the beach in the constellations Monoceros and Canis Major. This region of space is densely populated with a lot of interesting features with the main one being the bright emission in the bottom left corner and the bow shock from the bright star on the right. I tried to capture an even amount of filtered narrowband data and full spectrum broadband data because this region has a lot of reflection and dark nebulae that aren't picked up when imaging the high energy emission nebula. This is the Robin's Egg nebula, also known as NGC 1360, located in the constellation Furnace. It was discovered by the American astronomer Lewis Swift in 1859. Some sources attribute the discovery of NGC 1360 to the German astronomer Freidrich August Theodor Winnecke in 1868, but the American astronomer Lewis Swift had observed it in 1859. However, Swift did not publish his discovery until 1885. NGC 1360 is a vast planetary nebula at a distance of 1790 light-years. A continuation of taking shots at the Hunter. Orion's Belt is one of the most recognisable parts of the night sky for its absolutely massive stars. Located approximately 1375 light-years away the Horsehead and Flame Nebulas with the central illuminating star Alnitak. Together with Alnilam and Mintaka (not in this image) make up Orion's Belt. It is 20 times the size of our sun and about 21,000 times brighter making imaging the relatively dim nebula with any sort of dynamic range challenging. Imaged on a 150mm F/4 Newtonian Telescope 🔭 with 20 hours of RGB integration and 10 hours of Hydrogen alpha integration. #astrophotography #astronomy #milkyway #space #universe #astro #galaxy #cosmos #nebula #stars #stargazing #hubble #moon #sun #lunar #solar #noclouds #nosleep #skywatcher #zwo #primalucelab

It's nebula hunting season and what better way to start than with the hunter himself, Orion. Possibly the most imaged part of the night sky the Great Orion Nebula and The Running Man Nebula together with the associated star clusters form what we see as the 3 stars making up Orion's Sword. Located approximately 1500 light-years away this is a highly energised diffuse nebula with a cluster of 4 stars at its centre separated by only 1.5 light-years. For context our closest star not including the sun is Proxima Centauri at 4.2 light-years. Finally, the weather has turned in my favour just in time for my favourite targets. The first of hopefully 4 images in the coming 3 months of the main members of the Sculptor Group. Caldwell 72 or The Whale Galaxy is a Magellanic type barred spiral galaxy located around 6.5 million light-years away making it one of the closest galaxies to our own. It has large areas of ionised hydrogen as shown with the prominent pink/red splotches making this what is called a starburst galaxy. Imaged on a 250mm F/4 Newtonian Telescope 🔭 with 17 hours of RGB integration and 7 hours of narrowband integration to capture the ionised hydrogen clouds. #astrophotography #astronomy #milkyway #space #universe #astro #galaxy #cosmos #nebula #stars #stargazing #hubble #moon #sun #lunar #solar #noclouds #nosleep #skywatcher #zwo #primalucelab

The Moon has quickly gone from nemesis to friend 🌚🤝. Being such an active target relative to other astrophotography targets it is extremely fun to explore when it changes night to night. Mountain ranges on the Moon not formed by tectonic forces but by rapidly cooled magma from formation when a Mars sized planet named Theia collided with Proto-Earth ejecting large amounts of both objects materials into orbit around Earth eventually forming our unusually large planet to moon ratio system. This hypothesis has been backed up by research on rock samples collected by the Apollo astronauts in the 60's and 70's. Finally, my first decent amount of imaging since May. No clouds coinciding with a new moon the holy grail of astrophotography conditions. The Helix Nebula also commonly called The Eye of God or as I prefer The Eye of Sauron. It is one of the closest planetary nebulae to our solar system at only 650 light-years away in the constellation Aquarius. Planetary Nebula are dying stars in their last transition from main sequence stars to white dwarfs. The small spots of pinkish nebulosity in the transition from blue to red are called cometary knots and are dust globules around the size of our solar system being illuminated by the central star exploding. Imaged on a 250mm F/4 Newtonian Telescope 🔭 with 22.5 hours of narrowband integration 3 hours of RGB integration to capture star colour. #astrophotography #astronomy #milkyway #space #universe #astro #galaxy #cosmos #nebula #stars #stargazing #hubble #moon #sun #lunar #solar #noclouds #nosleep #skywatcher #zwo #primalucelab
