ソロ旅、いまさら初ハワイ ハワイ島 サドルロードドライブ コナからヒロへ、マウナ・ケアとマウナ・ロアの間を抜けて走る200号、通称サドルロードをドライブ。整備された道はとても走りやすく、標高2000メートルあたりまで、ぐんぐん山腹を上っていきます。どちらの山も、一見4000メートルを超える高さとは思えないなだらかな姿。実は海底火山の一部が海から顔を出しているだけで、マウナ・ケアは海底からの標高が10000メートルを超える世界最高峰、マウナ・ロアは世界一の体積！と言われても全くピンときません。星空観測のメッカという事でチャレンジしたかったのですが、訪問時は満月🌕人工的な光のない闇夜を照らす月の明るさに改めて驚き、その明度と、夜間どこからともなく湧き起こる雲に阻まれて、叶わず仕舞いとなりました。 2体の火山が活動していた頃、噴出する溶岩流に呑み込まれずにポツンと取り残された緑の丘Pu'u Huluhulu(毛深い丘)、周辺がトレイルになっています。丘の上から周囲を見渡すと、一面黒く渦巻く溶岩流の名残。この丘の存在が奇跡。荒涼とした景色を縫い目のように走るサドルロード、ダイナミックで荒々しく、全てを呑み込む激しい火山と共に生きる人間の営みが愛おしく感じられます。 #hawaii #hawaiistagram #saddleroad #puuhuluhulu #hawaiitrip #hawaiitravel #hawaiiphotography #ハワイ島 #サドルロード #プウフルフル

A week late but some pics from #Hilo #Hawaii. I tried to get up to the snow on #MaunaKea but the roads were closed due to ice. #MaunaLoa and the trail was also closed due to recent volcanic activity. But that’s ok, because I spent some time walking about the lava beds. Indescribable. A must-see for any traveler to the #BigIsland. Simply stunning. The rainy, cloudy weather made it even more of a dramatic landscape! A few resident protestors of the building of the Thirty Meter Telescope #TMT on the mauna remain as well. Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano. "Godzilla and Kong" start day 3 of filming on the Big Island today and they've been covering some ground! Film crews have been spotted in the Kohala Mountains and Valleys, at Kipuka Pu'u Huluhulu area which just a month ago was ground zero for our latest Mauna Loa Eruption, Kaimu Black Sand Beach in Kalapana (Momoa filmed a massive battle scene there last month) and in the 2018 Lava Fields near Kapoho Crater. A kipuka is an island of intact forest surrounded by a lava field. Pu’u huluhulu is a gorgeous 38 acre kipuka on the Big Island of Hawai’i between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. The hill formed when Mauna Kea erupted over 14,000 years ago, and lava flowed around it in the eruption of Mauna Loa in 1936. Kipukas are super important ecologically because they are sources of seeds to recolonize the barren lava fields post-eruption. Listen to Indigenous people when they say NO to the TMT, NO to military operations in Hawaii, NO to the take-over of their territories by rich assholes who want an exotic playground. Fight neocolonialism everywhere. Our morning with our freshly cut wai 'ohe from Kealakekua filled with water from back home. We made our way to the ahu to make our offering, set intentions, reflect, and dance. October 2021 - Kipuka Pu’u Huluhulu, a cinder cone where you can see views of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on clear days. The cloak of clouds present on our visit offered a chance to look inward and appreciate the microclimate of the cinder cone. But that’s not what I’ll remember most about Pu’u Huluhulu. I’ll remember that on our way down from our hike, we heard Native Hawaiians singing for the protection of their sacred land and leaving an offering at the base. Everywhere you go in Hawai'i is sacred land. Everywhere you go in the entire world is probably sacred to someone, but it is so powerful to see the people who are living on the route to Mauna Kea, devoting their lives to advocating and educating. It is such a privilege to come as tourist to see the gorgeous landscapes of Hawai'i, but don’t forget to appreciate the generations of Hawaiians who continue to steward these places, even under the constraints of ongoing political and economic pressures. I highly encourage reading up on the impact of colonialism on the Hawaiian islands as well as the ongoing struggles to protect places like Mauna Kea. Pu'u Huluhulu is a kīpuka, an isolated patch of forest surrounded by lava. The kīpuka are a source of seeds and plants that re-colonize the lava and establish new forests over. ʻIo coming in for a landing at Puʻu Huluhulu. ʻIo were once found across the Hawaiian islands, but today they have been extirpated from all islands except Hawaiʻi Island. ʻIo are dependant on large trees for nesting particularly ʻōhiʻa but in disturbed areas such as Hāmākua, and Kaʻū they are readily using non-native trees and habitats. They are adaptable and resilient birds. However they are still one of the rarest hawks in the world with a population of ~3,000 birds. I would love to see a day where ʻio are returned to another Hawaiian Island. Today's staff travel guide comes from our System Programmer, Chris. He has two favorite spots on the island. The first is Pu'u Huluhulu in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Chris says, "After walking along the barren lava fields to get there, looking down into a cinder cone covered in plants and trees is such a cool contrast. And then right behind you is nice view of the Mauna Ulu crater!" The second spot is the Waimea Nature Park right behind the CFHT offices in Waimea. He says is a great place to visit when feeling a little drowsy after sitting in the office all day. A great place to get some fresh air and shake off that feeling! やっと完成❕ ある資料をまとめるのにまず書籍をさがし読書から始め、二週間以上かかってしまった。座りっぱなしで腰がいたい。 でも知らない事を学ぶのは楽しく、勉強は私の心の栄養剤となる。 既知の知識や経験が、新しく得た知識とリンクする瞬間がゾクゾクしてクセになるからやめられない。 ちなみに今回は神話の中のセリフを名古屋弁に自動変換して読んでみたら、親近感がわくし想像しやすいしで最後まで楽しく読めました🤣おすすめ。 神話を読みすすめていくにつれ'awaの事もここできちんと学んでおこうと資料を読みまくりました。今後は「酒」とか「酒のようなもの」とは簡単に訳せないと反省。 'awaは'awaとしか訳せなくなった。 'awaを始めて見たのは、Pu'uhuluhuluに上げていただき、ケクヒ先生を中心にMauma Keaに向かって特別な儀式を捧げた時。 大きなボトルに泥水のような液体…'awaだ！ココナッツの器に入れたー！4つ！この丘の神に捧げに行くんだ！どこに置くの！どう置くの！何唱えるの！見たい❗️😳着いていこうとすると、儀式について説明するからと呼ばれてしまい、'awaを見届ける事が出来なくて…無念… お供えしてくるよう頼まれた若いダンサーはかなりの時間戻ってこなかったので、色々やっていたのだろう…悔やまれる。 残念だけど私にはまだそこに立ち合えるだけの徳は無かったと思っている。 生徒たちよ。 たっぷりの資料、読んでくれな。 キリがないから省いて省いて、この量だ。いつもの事だ。 神話のセリフ、名古屋弁で書いといたで。 📑 （’awa画像はお借りしました）

The last time I dragged Ayumi on this hike, she was 6 months hapai with Makoto and it was brutally cold, rainy and windy. Of course, we didn’t make it very far. Two years ago today, my life changed forever. (On a side note, i am super grateful and blessed I have been able to say this, multiple times in my life, and mean it with every ounce of my existence) What I thought was going to be a 2.5 week stint ended up being 9 of the most incredible months of my life.
