Puppy loving. 234/365 | 8.22.21 Even though my dogs are not puppies anymore, I still refer to them as my puppies. I don’t know why, really. I suppose it doesn’t really matter. Bella isn’t pictured as she was hanging out with M as far away from the water as possible. She’s not fond of the docks as they are close to water and she does not like water. A lab mix that does not like to fetch/play ball or have anything to do with water… Pebbles is the little white one and Trixi is the vocal, black & white one. I picked this graphic tank up on the mens side of EJW during one of our last visits. I don’t limit my shopping to the “womens” section of any store and if I like it, I will try it on. I’m in charge of how I feel today, and today I choose happiness. 233/365 | 8.21.21 We thoroughly enjoyed dinner at one of our fav restaurants in Morehead City last night at the RedFish grill. Jon had the Crab Stuffed Mahi, M had the kids Soaghetti, and my best friend and I had the Mixed Grill. As always, 5 out of 5 ⭐️’s! I adore that they, along with many other local fav’s, have outdoor seating. I prefer sitting outside when the weather cooperates and it was perfect last night. I got this dress earlier in the season from my local gap outlet store and this is the first time I’ve worn it. It’s currently on sale for $39.97. Coupon code info in my LTK post, info below. “It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream.” – Bern Williams 231/365 | 8.19.21 We enjoyed this fantastic sunset early last week inside the Beaufort Inlet as we were heading back to the Morehead City Harbor. While the sun does set in the West on this coast, if you set up in just the right spot you’ll have a spectacular view. I love sunrise, too. But, I’m just not a morning person. It takes a LOT for me to get going at that time of day. Eventually, I hope to photograph sunrise at all of NC’s piers. I’ve got 1 under my belt (Seaview Pier) and a lot more to go. I highly recommend that if you ever get a chance to visit North Carolina that you come down here to our beaches! If you visit this barrier island, you’ll need to either take the ferry or a personal watercraft. Ferries come from Harkers Island and Beaufort. This time of the year the water is warm as well as a teal crystal clear. Across the waterway is Shackleford Banks and carrot island where the wild horses roam. For me, this is like heaven on earth. “I wonder if the ocean smells different on the other side of the world.” -J.A. Redmerski 224/365 | 8.12.21 We love Morehead City (NC). It’s right across the waterway from our beach home. We can hop on the boat and be tied to a dock faster than it takes to drive across the bridge, park, and walk to where we’d like to go. The port is always interesting to watch from the water, as the ships come and go with their cargo. If your in the right place at the right time (usually in the afternoon around 5pm), you can see the charter boats unload their fish from the day. Come around during a fishing tournament or the Big Rock and boat watch, people watch, or watch a weigh in at the Big Rock Landing. The restaurants on and off the waterway will satisfy whatever your craving and most have nice outdoor seating for those that prefer the seaside breeze with their meal… Morehead, I salute you and can’t wait to explore everything you have to offer. And it’s honestly sad, that’s it’s taken me so long into my adult life to find some sort of comfort in my own skin. I’ve seen both extremes of the scale and I can say that, I’ve been OK with the size I am for a little while now. But I should have been OK, much longer ago. But, that’s a story for another day. I spent a lot of time setting unrealistic goals and standards to hold myself to… Trying to be small and to obtain body that I once had - which obtaining again would be both unrealistic and probably unhealthy. If I could have wrote a letter, to my 16 year old self… I would have told myself to love myself then. And that your body will change a lot over time. That obsessing over a number on the scale will get old. And that you will eventually wear clothes in double digits, so get over yourself now. Childbirth will wreck your body even more, but it’s so worth it. Wear sun screen sooner than later, you’d appreciate it in your 30’s when wrinkles start to show on your face. And I’m sure there’s more, but that’s the highlights. That inspiration could be a color, pose, or background/location I found interesting. And, well, you’re seeing this in my photos. When I collaborate with another photographer, they’re tagged. But if another isn’t tagged, it’s usually a concept I came up with and my husband helped execute it. I’m constantly questioned about my style, things I’m doing, and I’m going to start sharing. I’m ultimately a very private person & still plan to be one. Info below… 06.09.21 I was able to photograph these magnificent horses at Shackleford Banks and walked away with over 400 usable shots (over the course of a day and different locations). I will spend the next week or so sifting through them and hopefully that is enough time to finish editing some… I will slowly load a selection of the best ones via my website vis the Fine Art Print section & 10% of the total sale will be donated to The Foundation for Shackleford Horses. People should keep their distance of at least 50 feet (this is posted and online) and I was well beyond that distance. I actually had to back up to maintain a safe distance at times. I photographed the horses with a professional grade camera and a telephoto lens (I am a professional photographer by trade). I have started a women’s brand. My mission is to empower, embrace, and celebrate femininity. This will not only encompass a photography component, but I also want to create a community. Ava Vintage Style. 63/365 In March 2017, I worked with the Ava Gardner Museum for their Vintage Hair & Makeup Workshop. I offered quick headshots to the participants that wanted one (or more). The museum had amazing makeup gift-bags for everyone and students from the cosmetology school at Johnston Community College came to assist with hair and makeup application. This was a ton of fun and I hope to partner with the museum again! Swipe for a few of some of my fav shots. I shot these with what I call my “spot light”. It gives a sharp shadow since it’s so bright and gives sort of a film noir style vibe. My spot lights are super fun to shoot with but whoever is on the other end is basically blinded... if your eyes haven’t adjusted it makes it sort of intolerable (hence why everyone in these shots they’re looking off to the distance). TBO, I need content for the studio... So, I’ll add extra images there and post after Monday... @simplyblissstudio if you want to see more. There is a fine art to capturing snowflakes and I’m not sure it really gets cold enough here to really capture them well (they basically melt on impact). That and I have the shakiest hands. I often get asked what I do for post processing for headshots... generally, I only; color correct, smooth skin, remove blemishes, and sharpen eyes. If you are wearing makeup and your lipstick/eyeliner has smudged, I’ll fix it. And on the rare occasion I will add makeup if you request it (this may encounter an extra fee). If magazine retouch is what you would prefer, I will send it to my retoucher (enquire for fees). I’m looking to present the best version of yourself, not a person that looks oddly similar to you. I normally shoot through my ring light... But, here you see the final product and work backwards to where I’m completely barefaced, no makeup. This is not “magazine retouched”. In photoshop; I used a variety of brushes, sharpened pupils, highlights under eyes, and added light at the nose. Color corrected. In Lightroom I used a custom preset to flip it black and white. I’m not a photo-retoucher by any means but, WYSIWYG. I don’t typically use any liquify for anything - I’ll save that for the magazines. Are you ready for your updated headshot?
