Since winter is coming to an end in Wyoming, I figured I’d share one of my favorite adventures of the season I got to do. We got invited to go on a concierge day with @tetonscience to explore Yellowstone on a snow coach tour to Old Faithful. Since the park is closed to vehicles during the winter, this and taking snowmobiles into the park are the only way to see Yellowstone. It was surreal to explore a practically empty park while hiking through the snowy boardwalks and seeing iconic sights like Old Faithful and the geyser basins in between. I’m so grateful I got to go on an amazing adventure with other concierge from our local resorts and hotels in the area. Worn down after an 8-hour standoff along the banks of the Firehole River, a bison wades out into the swift-moving water, the Wapiti Lake wolf pack eagerly awaiting his demise nearby. I feel it will be hard to ever top this wolf encounter in my lifetime. This took place this January on a photo charter I took out into Yellowstone’s interior to find wildlife. Within the first few hours of the day, we came upon this scene: a wolf pack hunting a bison. And obviously, being a group of wildlife photographers, we sat there all day, photographing the scene as it played out. This is probably my favorite photo I got from the encounter. I missed the moment where the entire pack was lined up on the log along the riverside (I was moving our snowcoach as we had to leave soon ☹️) but I am unbelievably grateful to have gotten this photo a few moments later nonetheless. Participated in my first snow coach adventure into the heart of Yellowstone that you can't get to on your own in winter. So glad I did. Departing from Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, we spent the entire day exploring the Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, the Hoodoos, Swan Lake Flats, Obsidian Cliff, Roaring Mountain, Canyon Visitor's Center, Norris Geyser Basin, Mt. Washburn, and experienced trumpeter swans, coyotes, elk and bison. Special thanks to Doug and Nadia (pic #9) for such a wonderful job leading our snow coach adventure. We hopped the morning snowcoach shuttle from Yellowstone's Snow Lodge to the Fairy Falls Trailhead. Spent the day skiing to the falls and elsewhere before skiing back to the lodge. Great snow surface for skiing despite low snowpack. Gisteravond hebben we een super gave training van @maartenmeiners gehad. Hij heeft eerst een zeer inspirerende presentatie gegeven over zijn weg naar de Olympische Spelen in Beijing 2022. Daar behaalde hij een fantastische 18e plaats op de reuzenslalom. Een unieke prestatie van wereldformaat. Daarna hebben we met elkaar getraind. Op de baan hebben we zijn visie op het wedstrijdskiën om kunnen zetten naar toepassing in onze skilessen. Wat een gave en leerzame avond! Awesome day with my love @1johnnycrash 🥰 - the #islandpark #wildwestsnowfest was today with lots of fun activities throughout Island Park. We really loved the #bombardier #snowcoach ride with #calderatours - this coach was made in 1956! Updated with a modern LS engine, was warm, smooth and a great experience! Then off to @lakesidelodgeandresort for the Vintage Sled show (so cool!) and a 5 star ⭐️ lunch! We stopped by for a horse drawn carriage ride- but opted not to ride it because it was-15 degrees 🥶.
