The Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota founded in 1975. I’m stoked about this one because it has BEAVERS, and I don’t usually like to pick favorites, but they are definitely in my top 5 of all animals ever. 💧 🌲 🦫 🫎 🌲 💧 I illustrated Minnesota’s National Park for May in the @parksproject 2024 calendar, thanks to my sister, who said, “Hey, don’t forget about MN.” And I’m glad she did. It was fantastic learning about this land! It’s a park with 40% of it covered in water, over 10k years of human history, super old rocks (like super duper old as the creation of the North American continent old), the norther lights, and, of course, all the unique species that inhabit this woodland and coastal habitats. Another National Park checked off ✅ Zion National Park has been on my bucket list for some time. It’s breathtaking to see all the beautiful rock formations and mountains. We didn’t get to do any hiking but there are plenty of trails available. I was just there for the scenery, really. We deden alvast een kort ritje het park in (helaas bleef Mt. Rainier in mist en sneeuw gehuld, dus daar moeten we nog een keer voor terug😅), en de rest van de dag hebben we vooral heerlijk gechilled in het fijne huisje waar we verbleven😬 I am loving the 🇺🇲 cabin life 🙌🏻! Wat ben ik dol geworden op van die schattige (houten) hutjes en huisjes middenin de bossen🥰 natuurlijk het liefst met hot tub zoals hier😬. Echt geweldig om te slapen in het bos tussen de hoge bomen, te luisteren naar de geluiden die daarbij horen en te staren naar de ontzettend heldere sterrenhemel die je op plekken als dit kan zien🥰 Dit verblijf smaakt naar meer, dus een nachtje slapen in een A-frame en/of boomhut in het bos, staan inmiddels ook nog hoog op de wishlist🙌🏻 Slapen in een cabin the woods, zou dat ook iets voor jou zijn?

Wasson Peak - Saguaro National Park ..... 🌵 Our Itinerary: My good tennis friend Ken & I made the drive from San Diego to Saguaro to kick off my second week of spring break. I was so excited to visit my 18th national park & see all of those saguaros with my own eyes. We decided to kick off our trip with this peak hike, which ended up being the best decision. Our mid-morning start was sunny but cool, affording us perfect hiking weather & endless views of the saguaros, wildflowers, snowcapped Mt. Lemmon & Tuscson. 🥾 Adventure Description: Speaking of wildflowers, they were truly the star of the show! From the time we pulled into the parking lot & every step of the trail, there was a rainbow of colors. It was as if we were walking through a botanical garden! The hike itself is beautiful, winding through the mountains, with every twist & turn giving a new amazing view. We ended up clocking an enjoyable 8.5 miles & 1993' gain. We didn't see a particular advantage to going clockwise or counterclockwise. 💡Pro Tips: This hike took us about 5.5 hours, which is an hour more than would be expected at a 2 mph pace. The reason is that we lingered at the peak for at least an hour. We had a 360° view, with plenty of rocks & ledges to sit on. and I brought my mini sound bowl & the book "Desert Solitaire" by Edward Abbey (which I highly recommend). A hike can be a hike or it can be a spiritual experience, so my best advice is to make it personal. Zion National Park is something else.The park offers stunning views, amazing hikes, and the wildlife is extremely friendly. The Narrows was closed but consists of a roughly 16 mile hike through the Virgin River. We were able to hike the first mile before the trail closed due to high water, possible flash floods, and cyanobacteria in the water. During this visit, the emerald pools weren’t so emerald but the hike was phenomenal. A unique 3 mile loop trail with red rocks and sand led us through winding cliff edges and provided stunning views nearly the entire way. The day ended with a quick 1 mile hike of Canyon Overlook trail for sunset. Als wir mit unserem Camper in den USA 🇺🇲 angekommen sind, waren wir erstmal hin und weg von den guten und kostenlosen Straßen. Nach so einer langen Zeit in Süd- und Zentralamerika feiern wir es gerade so sehr permanent über 100 km/h zu fahren 😏. Keine Schlaglöcher, keine Speedbumps, keine langsamen Lkws und nervigen Polizeikontrollen oder Straßensperren, die kilometerlange Staus in brütender Hitze verursachen 😓. In den USA fahren wir mit unserem Wohnmobil auch sehr viel. Das muss man auch, wenn man viele Nationalparks in kurzer Zeit sehen möchte. Allerdings brauchen wir keinen ganzen Tag für nur 200 km 😂. Es ist alles irgendwie entspannter geworden. Nachts fahren ist auch kein Thema mehr. So haben wir, auch wenn der Park gar nicht auf unserer Route lag, den Bryce Canyon Nationalpark mitgenommen. Zum Glück! Todays little project to get #orionthetinycamper ready for our trip (in 17 days 😱) is window insulation panels. I found this car windshield sunshade at @tjmaxx for only $7, and it was *just* big enough to cut out two 31”x21” panels for the windows, and one 16”x24” panel for the door window (with a little Tetris-ing and duct tape 😉). The Amazon picture is the top seller, just for the door size alone. Definitely saved some 💸 on this project!
