“You’re Spider-Man, And I Love That, But I Love Peter Parker More.” - Gwen Stacy While I don’t think that The Amazing Spider-Man films are as influential or impactful as Raimi’s first two Spider-Man films, I do think that they are very overhated by many. Ever since 2012 and 2014, I have been a defender of these films and has always been the odd ball out of the group that liked them, but I’ve noticed for the past three years since No Way Home that people have been coming around to the films and Garfield’s performance. These films do have their issues when it comes to the writing, studio interference, the unnecessary retelling of the origin in the first film and the villains aren’t as strong as the previous film iteration, but there’s a lot to desire in the TASM movies and things that I think improved over the Raimi Trilogy. Andrew Garfield is a much more comic accurate Spider-Man(his Peter Parker, not so much) and probably my favorite film portrayal of the web-slinger(as he is a real life fan of the character), his romantic chemistry with Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy is my favorite aspect(given that they were dating during the time period of these films) and the web swinging effects are top tier with its POV style. And The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is hands down the most visually stunning out of any Spider-Man film. It would be a crime to not mention the perfection of Garfield’s suit in TASM 2. *Chefs kiss* If Sony didn’t ran this series into the ground in trying to make it a cinematic universe with pre planned sequels, a Sinister Six and Aunt May spinoff films(remember when that was a thing?), this could’ve been a great franchise as I see the potential of greatness everytime I rewatch these two films. And ten years later, they have yet to learn their lesson with the SSU(Sony’s Spider-Man Universe). In #MarcWebb’s #TheAmazingSpiderMan2, #PeterParker tries to protect his girlfriend and NYC, investigates his parents’ deaths, battles #Electro and welcomes back his long lost best friend who is dying from a deadly genetic disease. The film stars #AndrewGarfield as Peter Parker / #SpiderMan, alongside #EmmaStone, #JamieFoxx, #DaneDeHaan, #PaulGiamatti, and #SallyField. It’s no secret that Andrew Garfield’s iteration of Spider-Man is my favorite cinematic iteration of Spider-Man. And, hot take, but I think TASM2 is my favorite Spider-Man film. (Check back in a couple weeks after I see No Way Home again. 😬) it’s got some really awesome action scenes. The visuals are beautiful. The web slinging in this film are the best it’s ever been, before or since. Seriously, they get really creative with the movements and the look of it. It’s so slick and sleek and roller coastery. And my god, the suit. This is the comic book suit come to life. The eyes. Chef’s kiss. And the quips. So playful and breezy and charming. And then pair that off with the drama and the romance and the gravitas and the tragedy. The entire cast is incredible, top to bottom, but especially Stone and Garfield. I mean, you don’t get this kind of nuanced, engaging, impactful acting in your average comic book movie. Their chemistry is electric and the balance of the comedy and the drama really works. Obviously, it’s not a perfect film. You can feel the studio interference. The world building is fun but there’s too much going on. The Harry stuff should’ve been stretched out into the next movie. Same with Gwen. She and Peter needed a bit more screen time. Luckily, we were spared Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson. Sigh of relief. She does not have what it takes to convincingly play that character. Anyway, in spite of its flaws, TASM2 is…amazing. I really hope that, with the renewed interest and appreciation in Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, Sony decides to green light a TASM3. Maybe we could get a Spider-Gwen movie. A crossover, perhaps. There’s so much potential for something so epic. They can’t just leave it on the table. #alfieseesmovies on #spidermonday

I know this is one of the lower scored Spidey movies but I just don’t see it.
