Recently, I had the pleasure of immersing myself in the renowned Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Downtown LA! As a fan of indie films, discovering theaters that truly cherish and curate an amazing environment for unique cinematic experiences is always a joy. I was gifted by the #AlamoDrafthouse , some of their latest merchandise to try out, and let me tell you, I haven’t been able to stop wearing their cinema t-shirt since. The logo is so cool and its super comfy making this t-shirt a must-have! Plus, the chips and queso pin, and pint glass adds an adorable touch. This was my first time at Alamo Drafthouse, and I was impressed by the ambiance from the moment I stepped inside. The entire experience, from the stunning views upon entering the theater to the movie set up. While I had heard about some of the cool amenities @Alamodrafthouse offers, having food brought directly to my seat by a friendly server was one of my favorite things. Caught A24’s latest this weekend, and I’m honestly not sure what to think about CIVIL WAR (dir. Alex Garland). The subject matter is obviously topical and prescient, but I’m not sure what message this film was going for, or if it had one at all. In a word, this was bleak - the hopelessness of war, the futility of journalism, and the cowardice of leadership are well on display. The audience doesn’t know how we got here (although we can guess), and the movie never declares either side to be correct or righteous, and maybe that’s the point. In the end, when the dust clears and the new history books are written, it doesn’t matter. I’ll never complain about seeing Kirsten Dunst in a leading role and I feel like everyone onscreen did their very best with a pretty terrible script. Jesse Plemons exudes menace like no one else can, and I’d have watched several more hours of his character alone.
