Just got done a fun pampering session with a single momma of three kids. It felt so good to help this mama with her skin and love on her babies at the same time. Is mamas need each other whether we realize it or not. Not only that but I feel like I have a new friend! I go into these pampering sessions praying I can be a light and help them in some way and I leave feeling so fulfilled and blessed that this is what I get to do. More than a decade ago (I wont so how much longer because it makes me feel OLD) I hired my very first employee @ericka.barreto and she worked with me just 5 hours a week (because I was afraid to take the leap and hire her for 10- LOL!) Really quickly, she became an invaluable part of my little interior design firm and became my first full-time employee. We spent many hours plotting, planning, and drinking wine🍷 while we discussed our future plans for success. We worked on a lot of notable projects over the years she was with me, Including Pacers Gentleman's club (She had to get permission from her parents...no joke!), and The Gemological Institute of America (GIA- the place that stamps your diamond and gemstone paperwork!) As well as many many other projects that we will never forget. The economy shifted, work changed, and Ericka moved on to do other things with her Interior design degree. Fast forward to today, And Ericka is now a proud owner of her own successful flower & event company called #hartworksfloral in San Diego. She has her own team of employees, and I hope that some of the lessons that we learned together help her with her mentorship of young ladies stepping into the business world. We celebrated our enduring friendship by having a photoshoot together at her shop a few weeks ago, and I think the shots turned out so CUTE! Here's to decades more success for us both, Ericka! It is so easy to fall into that trap of always being critical of yourself. The thing we love about our gym is that those around us will build us up. The other athletes will cheer you on even if you won’t cheer for yourself. CrossFit is amazing in that way. Trial Built CrossFit is amazing in that way too. Keep measuring your success based on the fact that you showed up even though you had a lot going on in your head. Measure success by saying I hit that lift (even if it’s lower than you hoped). Keep saying I got a double under today (like a bunch of our athletes did yesterday for the first time). Keep measuring your success with the small wins. We see you. We are proud of you. What is success? I'm sure you could ask 100 people and get 100 different answers but I like this one because it means that success will look different to everyone. (Now, we should note that if you do a small bad habit repeatedly, you are just succeeding in making your life harder. The idea here is clearly about good habits.) We might have two people with goals to exercise more and one person wants to do a plank for a minute every day and the other person wants to do 100 push-ups every day. Both will be in better shape at the end of the year and both will be successful if they do stick to those goals. But it looks very different for each of them. What might success look like for you in this new school year? It's a great time, whether you're in school or not, to do a reset and start working on a goal. (I have a free gift for you! We snuck away last week for an impromptu trip to Pittsburgh to visit my best friend from high school and meet her new baby girl 🥰 we got to spend a wonderful afternoon at Phipps Conservatory and Nature Gardens. Even growing up near Pittsburgh I had never been but will certainly be visiting again! I’ve said it before - I never imagined me doing this homeschool, stay at home life. But when I could tell my friend “we’ll be up on Monday!” on the Thursday before, because I could, because I’ve built up this freedom with my family and girls, I realized this is my version of success and it reinforced that I’ll never go back.

ACTIV8TE Why This is our Why, helping a young athlete rediscover the Joy of playing, and making it fun for him again, and keeping him in sport. This young athlete had loved soccer but was not experiencing success and more importantly was not having fun as his learning style and personality was not being appropriately supported within his team environment to keep him motivated, and resulted in him losing confidence, and he was resisting and avoiding participation in any team setting. His ACTIV8TE sessions were paced to support his personal learning style, and offer him opportunities to recognize his own ability and the progress he was making and allow him to experience success and celebrate progress, whatever that looks like. We focused on building a relationship, trust and having FUN. He needed a coach who understood him, was able to help him reframe the negative thoughts and language and took time to recognize and find fun ways to support his learning style. We are proud to have seen him regain and be building his confidence, build skill and through a structured support plan that didn’t push him before he was ready, see him also return to a group training / and new team environment, @whiterockunited and preparing to return to games soon. He has also transitioned to working with our Jnr Coach Nishesh, and is now building more focus and intensity into his ACTIV8TE 1:1 sessions. We are very proud of him!
