Not all budget record labels were created equal - at least according to this proud vinyl album innersleeve. The fun with budget records is that you never really now what you get under a certain title (sub-par demos by the adverised artist, cheapo orchestral versions etc.). The not-so-fun is that they are mostly s**t. Nonesuch Records was founded by Jac Holzman, Elektra Records' owner in 1964. It started out as a budget label focusing on classical music - see their catalogue on this 1967 vinyl album innersleeve. In that year, however, Nonesuch also commissioned and released 'Silver Apples of the Moon'. Morton Subotnick's electronic work was, according to the liner notes, "a signal event in the related history of music and the phonograph: for the first time, an original, full-scale composition has been created expressly for the record medium." (This is the album the innersleeve above came with.)
