Ageing …. What is it we’re afraid of ? 😬 My fear of middle age came from advertising using slogans like ‘Anti-Aging’, ‘Anti-Wrinkle’, and so on, the word ‘Anti’ used over and over again so it reinforced aging was something you had to STOP. And freckles had to be hid, and covered up. But as we know, you simply can’t STOP ageing and freckles are not blemishes. . And then my 50s happened, and now my 60s … and the best pro Aging’ product I’ve found is ‘Gratitude’. ❤️ I don’t want to turn back the clock, STOP time, or hold back years. I don’t strive every day with creams and lotions to FIGHT the signs of ageing. I’m not fighting them, I’m EMBRACING them. I’m not ANTI ageing, I’m PRO ageing !🙌 I’m not going to put my skin, body or mental health through the constant pressure of trying to look younger than I am. I’m NOT afraid of ageing, it’s not a fear I need to face, so I don’t need to worry about it. Here’s how I do feel …. Perimenopause sucks big time. It's been a real challenge to manage the severe joint stiffness and pain and skin crawliness. And there are times when I wonder - is it better just to stop trying to stay active? I started on hormone replacement therapy three months ago - which helped A LOT with the joint pain. I'd say I feel 80% less stiffness and pain. At least I don't wake up with all joints totally frozen and unable to move (no, it's not rheumatism, arthritis or auto-immune - I've done the tests). But HRT brought on the all-over itch which is unbearable in its own way. Like I said, it's been challenging. I alternate between anti-histamines and pain medication or oral steroids (yes, I know - bad for you etc... but when you can't move for days and a small dose helps...) HRT has been denied to women because of the flawed Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study - which has been soundly debunked. If you think HRT causes breast cancer - it's the result of this badly-conducted study. If you're perimenopausal and suffering but too scared to start hormone therapy - please do yourself a favour and Google all the new studies that have shown how flawed the WHI was. New research is showing how protective HRT is for women and how beneficial is it - in preventing heart disease, Alzheimers, breast cancer, osteoporosis etc. For me, it's been a life saver in dealing with menopausal arthlagia - which an estimated 50% of all menopausal women suffer from. And, no, the aches are not because you're just growing old. If you want to educate yourself, Google "Women's Health Initiative debunked" and read up research by medical experts including Dr Lisa Mosconi, Dr Mary Claire Haver, Dr Corinne Menn and Dr Louise Newson. Getting informed helps women fight back against a patriarchal healthcare industry. Ich hatte ganz viel Glück. Mit etwas Pech könnte ich sterben. Aber es ist alles gut gegangen. 🍀Und ich feiere das Leben umso bewusster und mit noch mehr Dankbarkeit. ❤️ Es ist ein Geschenk und ein Privileg, älter werden zu dürfen! Denn man weiß wenigstens theoretisch, wie schnell alles vorbei sein kann und dass jeder Tag der letzte sein könnte. Ich liebe meinen 58- jährigen Körper, der es mir so wunderbar ermöglicht, zu leben, zu lieben, zu lachen, zu weinen, zu strahlen. Auch, wenn er älter und weniger gesund wird. Ich habe nur diesen einen Körper und es wäre verrückt, ihn abzulehnen, oder sich einen anderen, perfekteren und jüngeren zu wünschen, wie die Social Media und die Beautyindustrie uns täglich suggerieren. Immer dieser Selbstoptimierungszwang, um noch schöner, jünger, straffer, faltenloser, dünner, kurviger, gebotoxter, muskulöser, Barbieliker usw. auszusehen. Es ist traurig, dass so viele Frauen ihren Körper ablehnen und denken, sie müssen ihn ändern, um so auszusehen, wie gerade die Trends es vorgeben. Selbstliebe und self empowerment geht anders! Ich lass mir von niemanden sagen, wie ich in meinem Alter auszusehen habe, was ich anziehen soll und welche Anti-Aging Produkte ich kaufen muss. Wie ich schon dieses Wort hasse! And the study has its reasons. This research suggests that the fundamental causes are that these individuals receive more home healthcare services and preventive care. This study is based on comparing individuals who have been living in communities for at least two years with those who live on their own. And what do we conclude? Mit 60 werde ich dann Vintage und mit 80 Antik sein, aber nie alt. Do you know about the World Health Organization’s Global Network of Age-friendly Cities? It was an initiative created by the WHO in 2010 with the aim of connecting cities, communities, and organizations worldwide with the common vision of making their environment a better place to age with dignity and quality. Why do we love this? Because Marbella is part of it. These are cities where getting around is easy and where the quality of life and services far outweigh any downsides (at least, we haven’t found any yet). And what does this mean? That I’ll step out onto the streets and everything will be easy? Well, to a large extent, yes. To be designated as an age-friendly city, it must promote active aging, offering health, participation, and safety opportunities that enhance people’s quality of life as they age, adapting structures and services to be accessible and inclusive for different needs and abilities. For example, neighborhoods must be safe, buildings must be barrier-free, and streets must facilitate greater mobility. And here, the work is well done! Sometimes I think about the different characters I play in everybody’s story. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m a terrible person in some people’s narratives and a Godsend in others. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And none of it has anything to do with the person I truly am. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The lens that others view you through is coloured by their upbringing, beliefs, and individual experiences. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some people see your bright personality as endearing and others see it as annoying. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some people think you’re weak and emotional and others feel safe to be themselves around you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some people think you’re rude and selfish and others respect the way you stand up for yourself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some people admire the way you take pride in the way you look and others think you’re conceited. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And none of it has to do with who you truly are as a person. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What you have to understand is that you have no authority over how people view you so never try to control the way others see you because the only thing that truly matters when the dust settles down at the end of the day is what you genuinely see in yourself. ~Cody Bret It has been a challenge for me to overcome what people say about me. In business with her husband, Carl, from 1950 to 1992, Apfel had a career in textiles, including a contract with the White House that spanned nine presidencies. In retirement, she drew acclaim for a 2005 show at the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art featuring her collection of costume jewelry and styled with clothes on mannequins as she would wear it. And welcome to this weeks second episode of ‘daytime sequins’ I know Valentine’s Day was earlier in the week but I’m officially in love with my new sequinned jacket from Vinted (asos). This might sound like a weird thing to say but because the sequins are matt and not reflective, it makes it less ‘dazzling’ and more ‘casual’ 😂😂 I did get a couple of weird looks in Cafe Nerro earlier as most people were in loungewear but hey this is how I do Saturday.
