Hi all! There are so many wonderful midlife women and medical professionals here on Instagram sharing their advice, offering support and making us feel part of a club – hot sweats and mood swings might be part of the membership – but isn’t it great to know we are not alone? I say, sharing is caring and we need to keep sharing our own stories so that we can help other women – those in midlife and those younger who we need our wisdom so they won’t be blind-sided like many of us have been! I’m happy to share something that’s been helping me over the past few months – Selaura supplements! I was kindly gifted these. Morning! Today I’m posing a question: WHO ARE YOU NOW? Gosh. That’s a humdinger isn’t it? No longer a child, a young adult or even ‘just an adult’ – for me, I’m more of a midlifer on the cusp (at nearly 55) of tipping over to the ‘geriatric patient’ title that the medical professional so thoughtfully give to 60-year-olds, - despite the fact that most 60-year-olds I know have more verve in their little fingers than some young ‘uns. But - who am I? Who are you now? What makes me ask this question is an article I read in the March issue of theproagewoman. I recently stumbled across this digital magazine (for once I can say thank you to Insta algorithms for leading me there) and I’ve spent hours devouring it. April’s Bloom issue is out now 🌸 What’s good about it? It’s different – eloquent, intelligent, interesting (like me? Lol) and I love its massive Carrie Bradshaw vibes. In fact, as I read the articles, I imagine Carrie, tapping away at her laptop (possibly, a cigarette dangling from her lips – if she’s saved her one cig a day habit to enjoy while she’s in writing flow) head tipped coquettishly to the side as she ruminates on the page about life as an older woman. No longer a girl about town but a 50-something woman who still has so much to learn and to experience. Happy Easter weekend everyone - hope you’re enjoying the beautiful weather! 😎 Whenever I say ‘I’ve been missing on action on these squares for a while’, I always have an insta friend or two message me to remind me that it’s alright. Showing up on social media is great but I feel you need to have a purpose and sometimes, my life is so hectic that if I don’t feel I am providing anything that will give my midlife audience any value - then why bother posting? Oxford Bags for the win!!! . . Herewith your history lesson for the day…….. The Oxford Bags were trousers favoured by undergraduates at Oxford University from the mid 1920s to 1950s. If the story is to be believed, the University banned the wearing of Plus Fours (breeches/trousers that extend 4 inches below the knee) so students designed a pair of trousers big enough to fit over them so they could continue wearing their beloved trousers unnoticed. În general există opinia că a purta două imprimeuri în aceeaşi ţinută denotă lipsă de gust. Aşa încât multe femei nici nu-şi pun problema cum ar putea să combine imprimeurile, ci resping ideea de la început. Nici eu n-am făcut excepţie: m-am temut multă vreme să încerc astfel de ţinute, deşi am tot văzut pe Instagram cât de interesante şi stilate pot arăta, când ştii să le compui. Nici acum n-aş spune că sunt o maestră a combinaţiilor de imprimeuri, dar am câteva criterii care mă ajută să nu fac greşeli. Unul dintre acestea este ca cele două imprimeuri să conţină aceleaşi culori. Iar ca posibilitatea de a greşi să fie minimă, cele două culori să fie alb şi negru. Desigur, regula funcţionează şi în cazul altor perechi de culori, dar atunci când cele două imprimeuri sunt ambele în alb şi negru, ele pot fi purtate întotdeauna împreună. Even if it makes you feel super awkward 😬 just say a simple ‘thank you’ and move on quickly - don’t go into the usual self-deprecating replies like I often do, such as - ‘oh no, I look awful I haven’t had any sleep at all’ or ‘oh this old thing - no I think it makes me look fat’ ✋🏽 stop right there! Let’s own our unique, midlife gorgeousness ✨ On the other hand - what about the dodgy DMs that seem to bother all of us midlife women in Insta? Do those creepy guys not realise that leaving sickly sweet comments like ‘your eyes are so sparkly and your beautiful smile makes my stomach flip’ makes us want to 🤮 These pseudo compliments get blocked asap…Except the other week, I was just about to delete some weirdo’s constant barrage of DMs asking to be my sugar daddy when he messaged: ‘Hey beautiful, you’re fabulous!’ I couldn’t resist replying - yeah I really am aren’t I 😃✨ before blocking him 😂 I’m quite enjoying doing a few style reels at the mo - I’ll never be as good at them as some of the amazingly super stylish midlife ladies on insta, but that’s fine! Keeping it real in my reels is what feels right for me 😊 and I think I’m naturally more of a writer than a creative reel maker anyway. How about you?
