Well folks here is my final movie review of the month and it’s “Abigail” which stars Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, William Catlett, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud (R.I.P), Giancarlo Esposito,and Matthew Goode the film was Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett who have worked on projects such as “Scream 5 & 6”, “Ready or Not”, and segments of “V/H/S” and “Southbound” Synopsis: When six criminals kidnap a little girl and hold her for ransom, they soon discover that the kid is a blood sucking vampire… Right off the bat, Alisha Weir as the titular villain of the film was really solid as she sells the innocent nature of being a regular girl until she reveals her true colors, Melissa Barrera did a really good job with her role as Joey despite being a criminal who cared for Abigail before finding out the truth about her and was surprisingly good final girl, next up we got is Dan Stevens as Frank who’s total douchebag but you kinda find him entertaining to say the least, and I want to give a shout out to the late Angus Cloud as Dean for not only he was one of the funniest characters in the film but chillest too and while he didn’t have much screen time he made a strong impression despite his role being short and the rest did fine jobs on their own rights. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett‘s Duo Direction of this film was really well done as they were able to capture the atmosphere of being trapped in a mansion with a supernatural being, the Cinematography was well shot, the practical effects were impressive and the CGI was alright especially when it came to the gore, the costumes were pretty cool even if it is simplistic with the exception of Abigail’s, the soundtrack composed by Brian Tyler was nice to listen too as he should get more recognition. I think my only flaw with the film is that while story is written decently however I wasn’t to much of a certain twist that happens near the end of the film as it just rubbed me off the wrong way. Other than that this was a really solid horror film of the year. I’m gonna give “Abigail” a A-

『ゴジラxコング 新たなる帝国 (2024)』【75/100点:一言メモ→ コングxチビ太】 あくまで日本だけらしいんですが、ハリウッド版ゴジラと『ゴジラ-1.0』が同時期上映になっているという邦画史では初の現状が起きているらしく、そんなワケで嫌でもマイゴジと見比べちゃうんですが、前作『ゴジラVSコング』に引き続き人間側のドラマは「バカにしてんのか」レベルで、陳腐で退屈なものの、コングとチビコングの友情ストーリーが結構面白かったです。もっと言うとゴジラはおそらく本作に出なくても成立したんじゃないか、という根本的な欠点に気がついてしまうんですが、今年でゴジラが70周年なので、出さざるを得なかったんだろうなという大人の事情も察してしまいます。 話は髑髏島から地下世界に定住したコングくんが右往左往の後に、“スカーコング”という悪コングが支配するコング族を見つけて、チビコングと共にコング族の解放に向けて動く、というよくあるハリウッド映画的な話。こう書くとやっぱり「ゴジラいる？」ってなっちゃうんですが、まあ今回のゴジラは破壊要員ってことで思い切り脇役です。 前述の通り、人間側の話は結構退屈で、おまけに説明セリフばっかりで取ってつけた感がすごいです。一方でコングとチビコングの話はセリフも一切無いのに結構面白いという謎現象が起きているので、これもういっそのこと人間いらないんじゃないか論まで思ってしまいました。 チビコングがやたら可愛いのも結構ツボで、チビなりにクソガキ感が溢れ出ているのもキャラが立っており、コングの相棒としては結構良いポジションに収まっていたと思います。コングもコングで本作でシャワーシーン(？)が2回、虫歯治療シーンがあったりと、謎描写の数々のお陰で休日の中年のような哀愁も面白く、大塚明夫さんの吹替を付けてあげたいくらいの渋さが醸し出してました。 「僕、70周年なので来ちゃいました」感が終始あったゴジラさんには特に感想はないんですが、最後の最後で最強ぶりも見せつけて良いとこ全部持っていく荒技を披露していきました。なので、世間に一定数居るだろうゴジラファンは全然満足しなそうな構成になっているものの、振り切ったやり過ぎ描写のオンパレードには個人的に結構面白かったです。 人間ドラマを全部カットしてコングのお話だけで2時間やってくれたらもっと面白かったのは間違いないですけど、そんなコト言ったら大コケしていたと思うのでまあしゃあないですね。もう一度言いますが、本作のゴジラ、脇役です。 #映画 #映画レビュー #映画好きな人と繋がりたい #映画鑑賞 #おすすめ映画 #映画好き #GodzillaXKong #ゴジラｘコング #GodzillaxKongTheNewEmpire #RebeccaHall #DanStevens #BrianTyreeHenry #KayleeHottle #Godzilla #Kong #ゴジラ #コメディ #アクション #怪獣 #movie #movielovers🎬

Abigail (2024) Movie Review: Abigail is the latest vampire thriller following a group of professional criminals assigned by Lambert (Gincarlo Esposito) to kidnap Abigail (Alisha Weir, the daughter of a wealthy criminal only to discover that she harbors a secret that makes caring for her challenging and deadly. The Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed film is a consistently entertaining vampire thriller that is full of slightly interesting criminal characters and effective gory suspense sequences that are blended with good satirical comedy from its smart script that is only held back by a series of predictable twists and turns that make the film a bit overindulgent by its third act. The film immediately sets up an intriguing dynamic between criminals Joey, Frank, Rickles, Sammy, Peter and Dean (Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Will Catlett, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand and Angus Cloud) as the two separate trios work to kidnap Abigail after she attends an mysteriously empty ballet recital. The actors work well off one another whether it is poking fun at their quirky personalities and utilizing their skills in efficient fashion for a first act that establishes Joey as the single likable protagonist in a team of kidnappers that range from the slightly psychotic Frank and dimwitted muscleman Peter to the sniper expert Rickles. What works about the film's set up is its initial mystery surrounding its characters not knowing anything about one another by design which allows Joey a charming opportunity to properly guess the personalities of each criminal including self-obsessed hacker Sammy and the unpredictable Dean who is the only character that is right on the verge of being annoying. The filmmakers incorporate everything from a tense mansion atmosphere for its characters to be trapped within to an effective ballet inspired soundtrack to give its slightly original story some classic vampire elements. Despite the film having some tired cliches of its criminals randomly investigating screams in the middle of the night, Abigail utilizes its intriguing title character as well as where Joey tries to calm Abigail down during her kidnapping (Rating in Comments)

TRIPLE FEATURE FROM LAST SUNDAY Hey all, real quick, I want to say I’m sorry that this is so late. I’ve been super out of it recently and I haven’t been able to muster up the energy for much. I’ve got another review coming out after this that I want to review separately as well. Sorry for the delay, but here it is now. Abigail - 8/10 Radio Silence’s latest is an *awesome* time. I really dug their last two Scream movies (I haven’t seen Ready or Not for some bizzare reason) and here is no different. A gory and hilarious blast all the way through. I would recommend avoiding the trailer and going in blind. Alisha Weir is a star in the making as the titular character and Dan Stevens is the GOAT. Highly recommended. The First Omen - 8/10 I finished the original Omen (can’t call it the first anymore) before seeing this new one and I really liked it. Pretty creepy and a lot of dread to be had. This new one, in concept, should not work. A prequel to a 70s horror classic set off a lot of red flags (heavy Exorcist: Believer vibes) but somehow this movie rules. Very unnerving, visceral, and brilliantly made overall. The filmmaking is insane (from a first time filmmaker too!) and the acting, notably from Nell Tiger Free, really services the story. I’m not huge on the ending for reasons that would be huge spoilers, but otherwise, very very good. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare - 7/10 Have never seen a Guy Ritchie flick in theaters before and now I have. It’s decent! Henry Cavill kills a lot of Nazis with his friends. If you want that, you’ll be happy. I think when the movie focuses on other aspects of this mission it kind of loses steam and creates a lot of pacing issues (not as interesting as the movie thinks it is) and there isn’t any real sense of urgency or danger due to invulnerable characters, but I think it’s a fun movie overall. Solid matinee/Tuesday movie. More reviews and other posts coming if you’re curious. Don’t worry, your stories will be bombarded with likes again soon. Does the perfect live-action Belle gown exist? I’ve actually seen some amazing cosplay costumes that come closer to the 1991 animated version than the on-screen versions. I love the vibrant golden yellow gown from The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) and wish the 2017 Disney movie costume had been more like that in color and style. Maybe the best approach is not to try and replicate it, like La belle et la bête (2014) which is more like the French fairytale and classic film. We are having one Hell of a year for horror films. Abigail is a blast. The concept was brilliant, and Radio Silence did a solid job in execution. Melissa Barrera was great in the lead, which makes me wonder if her subdued performance in the Scream films was a choice by the directors. Alisha Weir was absolutely fantastic at going from innocent child in one scene to unhinged killer in the next. Not to mention everyone in the supporting cast is aces. Seriously, I always love seeing Kevin Durand get work. I do take issue with the ending as it leaves a little to be desired and feels derivative of another recent horror film's ending. Radio Silence are filmmakers who I’ve followed since they first appeared on my radar in V/H/S. I’ve seen everything they’ve directed since, aside from Devil’s Due. That one just passed me by, somehow. It was only a matter of time until I saw their new release. Abigail was a movie about a bunch of kidnappers trapped in a mansion with the kid they kidnapped, being killed one by one by what appears to be an animal, but turns out to be a vampire. That’s really the entire story, outside of the twists and turns. I enjoyed this one. It wasn’t anything that would get you thinking. It was simple fun horror. With a bunch of blood. A BUNCH of blood. There were bloodsplosions. The cast was good. They all seemed to be having fun in their roles. It was just a good horror time. The only thing it got me thinking about was that Radio Silence really likes the “trapped in a house while being hunted” storyline. Abigail was that. Ready or Not was that. Even their segment in V/H/S had that sort of concept to it. There was some of that in their two Scream movies, too. They really like that kind of story. Anywho… Abigail was fun.
