Infested (2023) is finally on Shudder so I had to watch it. I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about Infested; plus I grew up seeing Arachnophobia when I was a kid so I wanted to bring back that nostalgic fear of spiders. Kaleb buys a rare and seemingly illegal desert spider from the back room of a local shop. Being a reptile and bug guy he thinks nothing of it and brings it home to add to his collection. When the spider gets loose in his run down apartment complex it turns into an infestation that no one could have imagined. Once the police lockdown and quarantine the building, it becomes a fight to escape and survive. This was a creepy and fun creature movie. These spiders were nasty and creepy as hell; the way they moved and the sounds they made were amazing. The webs, especially in that garage room and the attic space were so gross, I would die if I had to touch those. Besides the creepiness of the spider and the anxiety they brought; I was pretty let down by the movie. It was fun and I’m glad I watched it for free but it just didn’t live up to the hype for me and I don’t know about you but I have questions about the end. Go into this expecting a war photography movie and you won't hate it so much. I appreciate @reginaparham1 for telling me what not to expect before I went into this one. I was able to enjoy the film a lot more than most people I've seen on here. With my expectations of a civil war movie, with a lot of explanation out of the way, I was able to open-mindedly dive into the story of war photographers. There is a lot of war, violence, and gore at times. But what I really found interesting was the morality struggle with the photographers. The job requires them to capture moments of death in real time, while others are fighting for their lives—I can see where that may he frowned upon. There's a certain coldness that they have to carry themselves with to carry out the job, and this film wrestles with the human emotions that come with it. I love a good found footage movie so I was super excited when my horror groups monthly movie rental was The Glenarma Tapes (2023). Plus I had never seen any Irish horror movies yet so even better. The movie follows four friends as they head to the Glenarma forest after overhearing two teachers talking about meeting up there. Thinking they are going to catch their teachers having an affair they head off into the woods after them. What ends up happening once they get to the woods is not what they had in mind, not at all! This was a great found footage movie, I really enjoyed it. It was well paced and didn’t lose my attention in the beginning when they were building the story. Once you get to the forest it was all fun and excitement. Here for the action, violence, and gore? Be rest assured, you'll get what you're paying for! This film had a beautiful display of martial arts! I wanted to say that first and foremost. The techniques, the movements, the sense of urgency to inflict bodily harm in hand-to-hand combat... BEAUTIFUL! This is a movie that never takes itself seriously and takes every opportunity it can to earn a chuckle from the audience. The bad guys are cheesy, but I promise you won't mind them. June 1993 — A group of filmmakers spent a month making a (ah, weird!!!) horror movie, but only three scenes were ever released to the public. 30 years later, its become notorious as a cursed film and is getting a reboot. The one and only surviving cast member will reprise his role as The Thin Kid. I had a delightful time reading this because I love @paulgtremblay, books, and horror movies. Alas, I had a Carrie-esque reading experience, which means that Paul scared the shit out of me... delightfully. I think the lengths people will go to for acceptance is horrifying to me. I’m a loner at heart and it’s hard for me to fathom wanting to be part of something that requires sacrifice or discomfort, a mask... frankly because I don’t think most deserve it, but if you find people who don’t want you wearing that mask all the time, that want you to just be you, it can be lifechanging. Friends are hard to find. It's just that everything ends, and the ending of this one broke my heart. I got teary. Some books get through my cracks. I really felt for The Thin Kid and his character’s inception. There’s a reason why horror movies are made, and there’s a reason why some stick around and linger. If we give away so much of ourselves, what’s left? Something animal. I think everyone reading this will see themselves in some capacity. It’s a harrowing read, but it’s a damn good one. I loved the writing style and the whole story. It was tense and it was sad and it was bloody and it was surprising. Alien (1979) is hands down my favorite movie. Today is its 45th anniversary and it is just amazing today as it was then. I am actually going to go see it in theaters tonight, it has always been a dream of mine to see it in theaters since it came out 10 years before I was born. On there way back to earth, the commercial ship the Nostromo intercepts a distress signal coming from a distant planet. When they go to investigate the distress signal they find way more than they could have imagined; thousands of eggs from an alien creature. Disturbing those alien eggs starts them on an intense fight for survival against a parasitic alien. It blows my mind every time I remind myself this movie was made in 1979. It is such an amazing movie that even 45 years later is still intense and scary. Sigourney Weaver as Ripley is one of my favorite characters ever; she is such a bad ass especially for a woman in the 70’s. Ripley isn’t afraid to speak her mind and take charge when others are making obviously bad decisions. Everything from the story, to the effects, to the characters is amazing in Alien. It is a comfort movie for me and every time I rewatch it I notice something new or different that I hadn’t before. The most amazing thing is that it sets itself up for one of the most amazing sequels in cinema, Aliens. I will always recommend Alien to anyone that hasn’t seen it and it will forever be my favorite movie. The Dinner Party (2020) was the weekly watch for a horror group that I’m in; we watch a movie together every Wednesday from one of the free streaming sites, this one was on Tubi. The movie is about a couple Haley and Jeff; they are going to a dinner party at a mansion, hoping to get some financial backing for the play that Jeff is writing. They are hoping that this dinner party will be the beginning of a new life for them and they are prepared to kiss ass and put on some fake smiles, but they never could’ve prepared for what the night will bring. The premise of this movie seemed very promising. We’ve all been in a situation before where a rich friend would’ve definitely made the situation easier. Right from the start though, the whole thing was a bit odd. I don’t know if it was just a lack of realism when it came to some of the decisions they made or if it was just the bad acting or if it was the weird overdramatic monologues that each character seemed to give, but this just wasn’t for me. Its saving grace was the violence and gore near the end, I had almost forgotten it was supposed to be a horror movie. It was about two hours long and honestly, if it was shorter it would’ve been much better, maybe get rid of some of those long speeches that the characters gave. There was a point when the action finally did start and those 30 minutes were actually very exciting compared to the whole rest of the movie and I will give them the twist at the end pretty interesting and I definitely didn’t see it coming. This aged so well👻 Does anybody agree? Revisiting this reminded me of how authentic of a haunting story it was. Unknown actors that had natural chemistry, no visuals of the demon(which would most-likely be the case), and a house that just looked like your average home—it wasn't scary-looking at all. Most houses aren't scary, so it makes this movie relatable to the average viewer—"Maybe my home can get demon-possessed as well." The relationship between the two main characters reminded me so much of me and my partner's; that's how honest this film felt to me. If this happened in our home, most of the character's actions and emotions would reflect our own. I'll probably second-guess any noise I hear in my house, this movie still had the ability to make me jump, or feel nervous, and I've seen this film so many times. The demon's roar while banging on the wall still gives me chills. I caught myself empathizing with the physical and mental breakdown of the characters, because this demon wouldn't let them have a decent night of sleep for 21 days. John's Horror Corner: The Sect (1991; aka La Setta, The Devil’s Daughter), an overly pithy Italian horror with a subtle charm for entomology enthusiasts. Chopping Mall (1986) is the most 80’s movie I have seen in a while. I don’t know how I hadn’t seen it before, especially with the amazingly cheesy name. A group of friends gets locked in a mall over night while 3 new security robots go rogue and hunt them down. This movie had it all: the 80’s hunk, the hot blonde that takes her shirt off, the sweet good girl and the nerdy guy that ends up being kinda cool and hot. I don’t know why but when the description said “they only have the things in the mall the fight the robots” I totally didn’t imagine them having that many guns. I definitely thought it would be a bit more of an improvised attack but the guns worked too. The different color lasers being shot by the robots was probably my favorite touch. The security companies video in the beginning was a great touch, it really was a hilarious way to show all the cool ways the robots were going to kill them. It definitely was a bit over the top and cheesy with some of the scenes and kills. Creative Scotland/Escape Plan Productions/BFI Film Fund/Bleecker Street . ________________ I’m going to try to post a review for every 2024 horror movie that I see, so it’s time to post this one I saw in theaters back in February with my boyfriend and his mom! Out Of Darkness is more of a thriller with some horror elements. There are a few eerie moments and violent scenes, but the film doesn’t go overboard and takes it time building up to the finale, which in my opinion was good… but slightly underwhelming and rushed. The acting is fine and the cinematography looks nice but it’s the score & sound design that really stood out 👌. The movie takes place in a prehistoric time and the characters speak a made up language which may turn some viewers off that don’t like subtitles.. but I thought it was necessary. Overall, this wasn’t great or bad and I enjoyed it for what it was. I can understand why this would have a mixed crowd though. —Has anyone else seen this one yet?— ________________ (Would I recommend/rewatch this?) -I say it’s worth a watch if you enjoyed A24’s It Comes At Night 2017 because they have similar slow burn vibes. I wouldn’t rewatch this, but I’d definitely like to hear the score again! Drag Me To Hell (2009) is another one that I can’t believe I hadn’t seen, especially since it has Justin Long in it. After having to make an awful decision at work, Christine believes she has been cursed. Like usual, Christine’s boyfriend doesn’t believe her and she has to get the help of a psychic before she is literally dragged to hell. I love when the fly broke the fourth wall. Something about it happening while they are asleep and the fly sneaks in; its like it’s catching us watching. It’s a little reminder of how society loves to watch someone descend into madness and blames the person who went mad, yet the collective group all watched it happen and did nothing to help them. I enjoyed this movie, it was fun and it had its good scares. Not gunna lie those couple jump scares got me pretty good and the old lady was creepy as hell. It definitely had its rough spots, the goat part was funny and some of the lines were pretty corny. 𝖡𝗈𝗈ƙ 𝖱౿𝗏ꪱᜒ౿⍵ ☠️📚🔪 Billy Silver by @dj_volpe_horror Rating ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I've been so busy at work this week, my brain is dead, and I'm struggling to string sentences together to write a rave book review, so here is a summary about the book and my overall thoughts 💭💭 Billy Silver, a low-life, self-downtrodden junkie, needs some cash to get his next fix. After getting kicked out of his own band, losing his girlfriend, and left with no other options, he decides to sell his flesh to the ink of a needle at a newly opening tattoo shop. His tattoo artist happens to be none other than Talia (my all time favourite demon girl) Shortly after getting inked, compulsions burn underneath his skin, and his need to satisfy a newly arisen addiction to self-mutilation begins. Eventually, violence against himself is no longer enough to satisfy his cravings. The urge to commit the grotesque brings his brutal tendencies to others. This book was so gruesome, gritty, raw and so unhinged and I absolutely LOVED IT 😍. From start to finish it was fast-paced, loaded with action, short chapters, with an ending you kinda weren't expecting 😳 Of course Talia made an appearance as the tattooist with the special tattoo design that fkd up Billy's life, and that made me so happy as I've previously read the two earlier Talia books and I can never get enough of this demon girl.
