Welcome Fireflies to our review of the series Stan Against Evil. I know we typically review movies but we started this over the weekend and wow was it amazing. First John C McGinley is such a great character. Yes he’s very much like his character in Scrubs, Dr Cox, but it fits so well in the show. His comedic timing is on point. The entire cast is quite great and all feed off John’s energy. The show starts when Stan’s wife Claire has just died and Stan has a breakdown and has to resign as sheriff. The new sheriff, Evie @thejvclub starts and weird things start occurring. We find out that the constable 400 years prior, burned 172 witches and cursed the position of sheriff/constable and Claire was keeping Stan safe. Afterwards all sorts of demon/witches start going after Stan and Evie. The show is part Horror, part Comedy but uses the good parts of both to really make a well thought out and entertaining show. There are some great kills, one liners and what’s going to happen next moments. Sadako (2019) Hideo Nakata (Ringu, Ring 2, The Ring 2) returns to the Ringu franchise, and does so with as much gusto as he did with the US The Ring 2. It’s a rehash of what’s been done, before, although does connect his two Japanese films to this one with the use of one character. I suppose with new technology comes new rules for Sadako, but that doesn’t forgive the plot holes with her story. Or maybe I’m confusing the timelines? It took me a few minutes before watching to research to make sure the correct timeline was in my brain. There are a few trademark Sadako creepy moments. Our lead, Mayu (Elaiza Ikeda), carries the film very well. But the end result is dull and very been there, seen that. “A group of people must find out how to stop the newborn deadly curse, which has born and gone viral after a Youtuber accidentally captured a vengeful ghost on camera.” @imdb Directed by Hideo Nakata. Night Swim - ☆☆1/2 Just wait until I get that Chlorine buddy, see ya pool demon. From Blumhouse we've got a story of a major baseball player struggling with MS(played by Wyatt Russel) along with his family as they move into this new home with a suspicious pool in the backyard(also it kills from what we see in the opening) Miraculously the baseball player starts to recover but at a sinister cost. Honestly as silly as a demonic pool is I think the story is pretty good with how they handle why you would keep getting into the pool as usually something like this I feel would normally be comedic. The little backstory we get on why the opening happens is a little wack though. Red Riding Hood from 2011 is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. Is it particularly good? No. Is it entertaining? Yes! I love the love triangle tropes throughout. Season 4 complete, I think this season was the most consistent and upped the emotional aspect of the series with two major character deaths (which was quite upsetting) from epsiode 1 to epsiode 16 the stories were brilliant it almost amped up the intensity and storylines perfectly, I enjoyed the reintroduction of Morgan I'm glad he didn't take away from the original characters storylines or they weren't sidelined, he just heightened them. There were a few new additions again which added to the story (Love John Dory and June the most), there wasn't really anyone I disliked (Charlie frustrated me though), the Villain Mel was good a simple man and his group wanting to take someone else's home, I liked the new location of the Stadium it's like they finally had a home, everyone had their moment to shine specifically Alicia, she was brilliant, she really took to being a leader be it with the main group or just with Charlie, she was pretty much forced into it but came out stranger than ever. The final villain of the series wasn't too bad, she came out of nowhere but it sorta worked especially for Morgans storyline. So far this has been my favourite season! .. Locked in with Irving Wallace 🪓 🦉 Here’s an original promo poster for Michele Soavi’s STAGE FRIGHT (1987). I’ve always loved this artwork! Written by George Eastman, who crafted a closed set story to help Soavi in his directorial debut, and produced by Joe D’Amato’s FILMIRAGE. D’Amato is quoted as saying out of all the films he produced, Stage Fright was his favorite. Regarding the famous owl mask, Soavi said in Spaghetti Nightmares (1996): “The mask was a bright idea that came to me at home from magazines and references to Max Ernst’s paintings…I had to fight a hard battle with Massaccesi (D’Amato) to get him to accept this particular feature. Back in 1979/80, #jamescaan came to Roc Mar Bowling (the bowling alley in Black Rock that was run by my dad Pete and my grandfather Joe) to film Hide in Plain Sight. They cut out most of the footage shot at Roc Mar, but this photo remains! Though it’s unclear if we can raise James Caan back from the dead, so he can star in #midnightbowl and make good on the marketing promises back in the day, we still want to try!
