So, it’s been a while since I’ve posted any updates. Edits on Nightmare Path are progressing, though slower than I’d like. I’m up to page 161, and chapter 17 has been completed. I thought I’d be much further along since this was a Rainny-free weekend (she babysat for her cousin’s shitgoblin, er, daughter). However, yesterday morning, the microwave died. Up through the afternoon got wasted on getting the new one and setting it up (yay for more credit card debt) Then I wound up sleeping super late this morning. I opted to skip working on model planes and get some edits done, but only did three pages of rewrites. So why the Andrea picture? Well, for one, FaceApp can finally change eye colors, so now there’ll be accurate Andrea images. Two, chapter 17 in Nightmare Path is from Andrea’s perspective. Three, I promised @hasanfantasy I’d get more chaos in my page’s theme by posting Andrea. I love my wip ❤️ Whenever I'm down about writing or myself, even if I can't write anything, I can still read what I've written so far. I love diving into my world, being with my characters. Angry, miserable, self-loathing Livia. Confused, spiralling, purposeless Oksana. Even though I make them miserable for narrative purposes (so cruel), there are so many moments of connection and kindness it's never bleak. I'm starting to have fun again because I'm finally writing the scenes that have been living in my mind for years. I've been struggling to figure out what this story wants to be. This went through so many rewrites, and I got frustrated as it wasn't turning into this High Fantasy Adventure I wanted it to be (Indiana Jones meets FF14) The scenes I've been holding onto in my mind fit so much better now that it's going a different route. It's closer to House of the Dragon, An Ember in the Ashes, and even Jade City and The Mask of Mirrors (which I thought sounded similar to my story and specifically picked up to help me write better court politics) And who knows, maybe Final Fantasy Indiana Jones will work out someday 🤷♀️ P.S. And please don’t think I’m not happy for these people, because I really truly am. There is so much space for all of us in this community but I can’t help but wondering when it will be my turn? First week operating on a plan ✔️ And since that worked so well, I wanted to share my revision plan for the respective month at the beginning of each month. Whether I'll make it to the end as planned is a bit up to life and mental health BUT I'll try. I had already summarized on my last #revisionhell update post how much I am now changing in my main WIP Running with Wolves (working title). I have summarized that again visually on pic 2. As you can see, I cut an entire POV, an entire time period and then I had to readjust. The new outline (very, very high level) is on pic 3. And pic 4 is the scary one: goals for March. I only have three. Finish reviewing the outstanding chapters, add the new beginning to ease people into F's story and then (this is the really scary one), I guess I have to find alpha readers / critique partners to work with ^^ The reason I am not looking for beta readers yet is because I am working without a standing writing group this time (mine is currently taking a break due to life stuff). But before I move onto my next few rounds of edits and finish it for a beta reader, I would like to find other writers to work with! This post comes slightly delayed as I had prepared a reel on editing but every time when I wanted to record the voiceover, my neighbours decided to refurbish their apartment. So, instead I thought I share a brief update on how the revisions are going. 📣I'd love to hear what status your WIP is in at the moment and what you are working on this week? I keep saying I am rewriting and revising, but I don't think I mentioned the extent of it yet. (I have only just come to terms with how much I am changing...) I am in the midst of the rewrite part. Out of the 28 chapters my WIP had, six have been removed entirely as I have moved that POV to its own project. Out of the remaining 22 chapters, I have completely cut 9 chapters as I will use that part of the timeline for background and flashbacks only. This is where I am at at the moment: reviewing the chapters and then writing little scenes for the bits I am keeping as well as working on the new beginning. I will then have to finish the new chapters at the beginning (probably around two, maximum three chapters) and then rewrite the remaining 13 chapters to make room for the flashbacks as well as a long list of other changes I want to make. Those range from changing a character's gender to changing an entire people from desert nomads to magical jungle dwellers. Suffice it to say that this is not done in a few weekends. Went to a concert tonight 🎶 I am aware that I need more enrichment in my enclosure. True changes of scenery are difficult to fit into the day, but I can embrace non-BAU experiences while my child is away for a couple of days. The only song I recognised tonight was Auld Lang Syne. The rest were a wonderful mix of Chinese folk music to celebrate the new year. The orchestra were talented and played with tons of personality. It was a great evening 😊 And earlier, I wrote in a new place with a person I've not spent 1:1 time with before. And I did proper editing on a short story (which I've not really managed to achieve before 😅). They're only tiny things, but I feel marginally enriched.
