A year ago today, just a quick 2-hour flight from Mumbai landed me in Madurai, kicking off my epic 14-day birthday backpacking journey across southern India! While exploring this vibrant southwestern town, I had the incredible opportunity to witness the grandeur of the Chithirai Festival, celebrating the divine union of Lord Sundareswara and Goddess Meenakshi. A year ago today I started my first successful section hike. It was was filled with endless challenges, but I learned that I was even tougher and more determined than I knew. This trip has been filled with different challenges….I’m no longer an inexperienced hiker scared to sleep in the woods and nervous about hiking alone. Every day I accomplish things I didn’t think I could accomplish year ago. Today I “aqua blazed” (which means you travel by water) for over 9 miles in a kayak. It was so much harder than I expected. But I made it. Then I hiked 3.13 miles in an hour to camp for the night. Tomorrow I hope to break another PR…but we will see! My knee has been giving me endless troubles…but hopefully I’ll overcome. SINGAPORE 🇸🇬 The choice of the first picture represents what I believe Singapores values stand for... a city close to what you would imagine in your dreams. The airport alone is already seems to be like a dream (tips on Changi Airport in my Previous Reel). You have an amazing Waterfall, indoor gardens, crazy activities and even a shopping mall there. Lets not forget about the city itself... Huge and super modern buildings, a beautiful skyline and obviously Marina Bay Sands - the most renowned part of Singapore (Pictures 1 & 2) Below, some of the places you should visit and some tips on them: 1️⃣ - Changi Airport (more info in my previous post) ✈️ 2️⃣ - Marina Bay Sands (Pics 1 & 2) 🏨 Go to The Merlion Square and walk towards the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel. You can go up to the observation deck (better for sunset/nighttime) and observe the skyline and light show around 8 PM. Also, getting a beer or a drink is nice there but a bit expensive (Beer: $16, Observation deck: $30) 3️⃣ - Gardens by the Bay (Pic 4) 🌴 These huge artificial palm-shaped structures give a very interesting touch to the Marina Bay area. Being next to the hotel, it is a must-visit. Also during nighttime it is beautiful as they have a lightshow worth observing. 4️⃣ - Quarters 🏢 As Singapore is such a diverse country, it has lots of influence from everywhere and has multiple interesting and beautiful quarters. Go visit Chinatown, the Arab Quarter (Haji Street & Arab Street) as well as Little India. Walk around them and go to grab some streetfood in their respecitve Hawker Centers (streetfood markets with lots of stands) 5️⃣ - Singapore Botanic Garden 🌴 Take the MRT (Subway) to the Botanic garden (free entrance) and walk around. You'll see lots of vegetation, animals and and flowers. 6️⃣ - MacRitchie Trail🚶♂️ Want more nature? Take the bus to the trail and walk around the lake. Ubud, Bali, Indonesia 🇮🇩 Recommend at least 4 - 5 nights here - there’s so much to do! I got a taxi from the airport in Bali to Ubud - around 400k - better to book a transfer in advance as it works out cheaper, but also double check grab/gojek as outside rush hours this can be cheaper Hostel: Puri Gardens - my favourite hostel ever! A bit more expensive but free breakfast, massages, yoga and nail painting every day! And the beds are huge too. Also met so many people here! Very good if you’re a solo traveller like I was Things to do: - Day trip via taxi driver we paid 100k each for group of 6 people - I just joined this as I saw someone sent a message in a Hostelworld group chat saying they had 2 seats free - we did Nungnung waterfall, tegalalang rice terraces, coffee plantation, and water temple in the one day - Tegenungan Waterfall - Warung Yeh Batu - Mt Batur sunrise hike - we paid 325k - didn’t book through puri gardens as it was more expensive, we just walked to another hostel and booked there and they collected us at puri gardens - Goa Gajah - 50k entry - Ring making class - definitely recommend! There’s so so many in Ubud, just search on instagram. Prices are based on how much silver you get but usually if you’re just making a ring you won’t need extra but they’ll let you know if you do - Monkey sanctuary - 80k entry - ATV and White water rafting - we paid 650k to do these both in the one day Places to eat/drink: - Puri gardens restaurant cafe - anyone can walk in and eat here - Cp lounge - bar - Clear cafe - restaurant #bali #indonesia #travel #balitravel #ubudbali #backpacking #hostel #backpackinglife #solobackpacker

I scored the golden ticket for the JOHN MUIR TRAIL 🎫 The countdown has officially begun, with just three months until I embark on my backpacking journey along the JMT! I’m bursting with excitement and gratitude for this incredible opportunity. It’s amazing how life sometimes presents us with unexpected adventures. Until a few years ago, the idea of embarking on such a journey solo seemed unimaginable to me. However, a friend’s encouragement planted the seed, and it’s been on my mind ever since. Despite doubts and distractions, including relocating to Texas in 2022 and trying to start a family, I couldn’t shake the dream. Then, one restless night in January, unable to sleep, I found myself watching the semifinals of the Australian Open between Coco and Sabalenka. Spontaneously, I decided to apply for the permit. Winning the lottery for such a coveted permit was beyond my wildest expectations! I can’t wait to lace up and embark on this unforgettable journey. Here’s to new adventures and embracing the unexpected!

Hi! Here are some of my solo backpacking/Thailand tips: 1. Use formal & formal sources for research I used travel sites; blogs; videos; reels; Reddit and Facebook groups. I found informal sources gave me the best practical tips and hidden gems 2. Be flexible! Have a skeleton of your “musts” and your days, however keep your itinerary open. You’ll find other things to do, with others or yourself! 3. Learn some language, culture and customs! Knowing the basics (hi, bye, thank you, yes and no) shows effort and respect, locals appreciate this! Also helps you appreciate your surroundings more. 4. Explore like a local! Shop and eat where locals do! Take public transit! Immerse yourself! 5. Pack HALF of what you packed. You’ll buy things (woops - me and my 4 pairs of pants) but do bring essentials (skin care) 6. Accept your trip won’t be perfect. Life happens, you will overcome it (it was bed bugs for me). 7. Schedule some “rest” days. Travelling is tiring! Budget days in case plans change are important and allows you to re-energize. Travelling isn’t a sprint! I wandered the city on mine. 8. Go out of your comfort zone. I met so many people just chatting with stranges! I was able to have amazing experiences (learned how to drive a scooter). 9. Stay in hostels (esp. when solo)! You meet SO many people! The hostels I stayed at hosted events to bring people together. I never felt alone once, and I had people to do things with! Plus budget friendly! 10. Cash is KING (in South East Asia)! Get those discounts and those credit fees are horrendous.
