Market stalls in Tonga in 28 years still have not changed. On a visit to Vanuatu 6 years ago I couldn't find one plastic bag. I honestly thought that by now, Tonga would have moved away from using plastic bags, but alas, it has not. Maybe bundles could be displayed in containers or bowls, and the customer then puts the produce into their own bags....I can only dream of a moment in time where maybe banana leaves and coconut frond baskets are used again. A ban of single use plastic bags would be wonderful for the environment in Tonga. This project is part of the global art project @aerocene. This project is a message from all of us, especially children, to take better care of our planet and pay attention to what we consume. When I was 8 years old, I got some friends together to stand in front of our local McDonald’s to ask them to stop using styrofoam. They listened, and they stopped using it forever! I’ll never forget that. At an early age, I saw proof that children are powerful and we can make positive change for the world at any age! Go get out there, kids. Please email Governor Kelly at [email protected] by April 5, 2024. Request that she veto HB2446 to preserve the opportunity for communities to address disposable plastic waste.
