Isn’t it wild that the exact lifestyle my family have lived forever is suddenly considered ‘radical’ or ‘alternative’ The lifestyle we were shamed for (and still are in many cases) The lifestyle that left us ostracised and ignored is now celebrated (but only when it’s adopted by a white, middle class woman eh?! 😉) There’s no ‘fluff’ involved in my GRT Cultural Competency Workshops - the more uncomfortable the question the more potent the discussion & learning! ✨ Come & join us! #grt #alternativeliving #radicalbirth #freeschooling #freeliving #freebirth #freemotherhood #gypsyromatraveller #culturalcompetency #midwife #doula #birthactivists #birthworker #ittakesavillage #postnatalrecovery

Breastfeeding rates within the GRT Community are incredibly low … with less than 3% initiating breastfeeding and no mothers continuing to breastfeed after 6 weeks (a Uk study by Pinkey 2011) We explore this in the GRT Cultural Competency Training and it’s an area I’m currently researching … if you’re an IBCLC or Breastfeeding Peer Support Worker then these mothers really need your support and you really need to understand the cultural implications around providing this support! ❤️ Spaces are available on the May & June workshop … £45 for two mornings (4 hours total) and ongoing free access to a private whats app group … booking link in the bio! How many #pregnant folks are actually getting care that is 💕 individualized 💕 where #prenatal visits 🌟 are focused on educating about #healthypregnancy 🌟 are based on evidence based decision making (which is not nearly the same thing as doing what a provider recommends but is instead a model of communication that includes research, provider recommendation, AND the individual’s preferences/lifestyle/beliefs/etc.) 🌟 are more than 15 minutes in length ❓❓❓ Unless you are #birthing with a small #midwifery practice this is likely not the case (and if you are with a larger practice and getting care like this then that is awesome!) BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t have it. Coming to prenatal visits with questions to ask, an idea of your preferences for #birthing , and taking a high quality unbiased #childbirtheducation class to help you know your options and the research in relation to different scenarios will all help you cultivate the individualized experience that is lacking in the current reproductive healthcare system. 🤰🏽 #thisisyourbirth #yourbirthismeanttomoveyou #birthactivists #labor #doula #laboranddelivery #maternity #birthprep #empoweredbirth #birthpreparation #birtheducation

Twin where have you been 🌹🥰 Do… ing what I can to see success in places some people may not go, it's my time I share my story and works with many more families, if I dont do it who will, nobody knows me like I do.. What we have been thru doesn't show, unless we put in the work! & I choose to. I didn’t stumble upon birthwork because of the fad or need for doulas or just to make extra money. Honestly, I didn’t know what I was getting into, but it was something that I desired from the very beginning as a baby born through birth trauma. It was understandably my duty to figure out what we needed what was the reason behind it and after asking, God he told me questionmy own gut it was only a matter that I did something for women with stories, similar to my mothers and my my aunts and my own. I never knew how many things could go wrong in one moment when it was supposed to be a beautiful story 🥹 I’m no longer living in the moment I’m living this work, and it runs through my veins just as deep as my own blood. Sometimes it scares me because you have to hold your breath when you see things go wrong when sometimes it’s not the moment to fight with words but with knowledge. I choose to educate in a way that only I can but many can understand and relate to because one thing for sure two things for certain there is many people just like me and just like you. I choose to open my heart in the world that we see unfold, more and more. It is just like a dressed up trashcan, nonetheless and onion with many layers so I choose to peel my own layers back, the layers of trauma, the layers of unhealed crys ..the layers of disassociation the layers of regression and fight through those layers to find the sweet mushy center of healing and growth all in one. No woman or child deserve to be without 🌹 #explore #earnestforlife #fyp #timelne #blackbirthworker #mystory #birthactivists #blacktoliberation #studentforever #blackbirthstories

🛀🏾- Hydrotherapy can help people cope with labor pain and avoid medical interventions during labor 🛀🏾- Hydrotherapy is immersion in warm water during labor. It can be used during any part of labor, including early labor and active labor, as well as the late (“pushing”) phase. Hydrotherapy is offered as a comfort measure, providing relaxation and pain relief. 🛀🏾- People who wish to avoid epidurals or opioid pain medications during childbirth may want to consider hydrotherapy as part of their birthing plan. Today my oldest son has his 21st birthday 🎁 🎂💜. So I’ve also now been a parent for 21years 😦. I’m sharing the following to highlight a little of what being a parent really means in contrast to what is usually seen on this platform. Plus remembering that as your family grows you have more to manage & face I want to share this because it’s becoming more normal than the fake Instagram family influences we can see on here. When becoming a parent you have ideas about what it will be like. Plus if you do follow family influencers it can appear so easy, blissful & carefree. I can safely say my ideas of what being a parent would be like were totally wrong & maybe delusional even 🙁 In reality my son was taken away from me seconds after birth & that was the start of an incredibly stressful period. He was alone in special care for 6 weeks & then required a ng feeding tube for another 6months. Having to pin down your new baby to put a tube down his throat & making sure you missed his lungs & didn’t accidentally kill your child almost every day was FAR the beautiful idealic baby experience I had expected. It was very traumatic for us all. He needed 3 operations on his mouth & developed an eating disorder from it all. I’m not going to list all the challenges we’ve faced but here’s a few, just to highlight what parenting can be about. 🤍experience him waking up paralysed , 🤍a whole decade of broken sleep 🤍night terrors 🤍5 broken feet, 🤍autism & adhd, ⚡️gang mugging & a good friend having a really heartbreaking violet suicide & all the fall out that resulted in. Dispite those things today he’s 21 years old & im mega proud of his strength & resilience. He’s such a quiet sensitive man these days, I just hope he learns to accept how special & unique he really is this year & going forwards in his life.

In the throws of motherhood , especially early postpartum, we often begin to lose our sense of self and self-worth. So I am here to remind you that you too are a person. Your needs are as important as your baby's needs. You too deserve NOURISHMENT, and your body deserves a huge level of RESPECT and PATIENCE while it recovers from growing, birthing and (for those who breastfeed;) nourishing your baby. With every new baby born is a new mother. BE KIND TO YOUR BODY, MIND AND SELF. ✨

Did you know that the practice of a doula is that of a traditional midwife? The role of a doula today, is how a midwife would have practiced before the word was taken and protected by the medical industry. Midwifery is so far from what it originally was; it is now incredibly limiting, red taped and full of boxes to tick, in comparison the duties they would have traditionally fulfilled. With it's name now being protected; to which it requires specific qualifications for those who use it, and that they are only deemed capable to tend to 'healthy' women for 'normal' births. The common day, practicing mivewives, have lost all of the ancestorial knowledge which their predecessors would have passed onto them, their holistic techniques (which are still relevant and still used today), have been replaced by utensils and drugs which are teaching mothers that their bodies and therefore themselves are not reliable and sometimes not good enough, and with this, it has been lost that birth can be euphoric! ✨ So let's call 'midwives' what they truly are: 'med'wives. And how did this begin? P A T R I A R C H Y. In simple: Birth which was once a female exclusive event, became; a man developed a tool to assist with shoulder discosia and only he could use it. This became; other men copied the design, turned into; only men could assist in complications. Women were then prohibited from higher education, became; men know women's bodies better then women (even with their ancestorial knowledge), which finally became; women were excluded from births. As said in the post, I will divulge all in another post. ❔How was your midwifery care? Would you say it was more boxes to tick or did you feel that you were truly 'with woman'❔

No matter how any birth unfolds, it plays an enormous part in how the mother will recover, parent and feel about herself. Even the most blissful births can hold trauma from external sources. ✨ Birth is sacred and should be treated as so. ❔How do you think your birth contributed to yourself and your journey❔

The reality is that doulas are not exempt from being part of and upholding the capitalist, colonial, patriarchal system. Yes we do need money to survive in this capitalist system. But should that mean we price ourselves to a point where only a select demographic can actually afford to work with us? ✨ A peak at one of my parenting affirmations, because we could all do with a little reminder when we are having a tough time. Whether you're facing some difficult behaviour or your little one is going through a leap, or you haven't managed a shower in 3 days and you're running on 2 hours sleep. We (all parents and carers) could do with reassurance that we are the best person to care for our little ones. Every phase will pass sooner than you think. You're doing a great job! Share the love and tag a friend who could do with a reminder 💛

Baby-wearing benefits • Reduce anxiety in parents • Parents are often concerned with SIDS and become anxious when their babies nap alone or are in a pram. • Regulates baby's functions • The closeness of baby-wearing stabilises baby's heart rate and temperature, especially when performed skin-to-skin. • Strengthens your bond • Baby-wearing strengthens the bond between the carer wearing them and the baby, especially as your baby adjusts to life outside of the womb. • Discreet & on the go breastfeeding • Some baby-wearing options can accommodate breastfeeding which is perfect when on the go and if you like to do it discreetly. • Improves breastfeeding • Due to the close contact with baby this aids milk production and lactation which meets your baby's needs and demands for nourishment. • Increased productivity • Baby wearing allows caregivers to be "hands-free" to get stuff done while still holding and comforting the baby. • Promotes early language development • Babies learn by watching faces and listening to conversations; babywearing puts your little one at conversational height. • No, or lesser need for a pram • Most parents think of prams as an essential (which is pricey!) and don't think about baby-wearing until they feel they need it. • Aids reflux symptoms • Baby-wearing your baby in an upright position allows the milk to settle which reduces the likelihood of gastric reflux symptoms. ❔Can you think of anymore baby-wearing benefits to the wearer or the baby❔

Terrible to hear this on BBC this morning. Though it's not new news. This has been going on for a long time. And sadly is another example of health inequality. It's time for us all to stand up for better care. It's just not good enough. And remember, though it might feel counterintuitive, we know from a great deal of research that Home Birth is safe for most babies! #betterbirth #positivebirth #pregnancy #birthactivists

Continuity of care is not routinely offered on the NHS. Continuity of care is having the same healthcare professional throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. This is not routinely offered on the NHS, many people report never seeing the same midwife twice during their antenatal visits. During labour shift change over is usually every 12 hours meaning your midwife is on a clock before home time, if your labour spans days you will likely see several unfamiliar faces from midwives to obstetricians during your sacred birthing process. Immediately postpartum you will see several healthcare professionals and this continues during the midwifery care you receive at home. Doulas offer that continuity of care, a thread that weaves through all of the appointments and caregivers, doulas can offer a familiar face, a face you have built a bond with throughout your pregnancy and a person you can trust to advocate for the birth you want, hold your birth space and hold you in your postpartum space. Drop a message if you have any questions. Love as always, Sarah x

🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘 Medicine has made some incredible advances and given us some wonderful insights into our bodies and their inner workings, but isn't it incredible how we held some of this knowledge pre-medicine? We as women are at one with nature, and much can be told from knowing our menstrual cycles and observing the moon. There's a reason for the phrase mother nature!

Do you agree? I used to believe that doulas empower women, but in my journey and studies I've come to realise that doulas should remain in the background so that the birthing woman can unlock their true potential and feel truly empowered. ✨

This article was upsetting to read!⁣ ⁣ It is possible to breathe your baby out and it’s called the fetal ejection reflex or FER. It’s not often seen in hospitals as women are disturbed by routine procedures or medical interventions. That doesn’t make it impossible or something that is an ‘unrealistic experience’⁣ ⁣ Many people dream of having a birth like Ferne’s!! This should be celebrated and we should be asking ‘how can I make my birth like this?’ rather than acting negatively on what sounds like an incredible, positive birth experience. ⁣ ⁣ Swipe to find out more about FER ✨ ⁣ ⁣ #hypnobirth #hypnobirthing #birtheducation #fetalejectionreflex #fer #birthrights #hypnobirthinglondon #hypnobirthingsurrey #birthactivists #birtheducator #antenatalclasses

Posted @withregram • @emma_ashworth_birth_rights We are seeing more and more services posting that they are closing the home birth service, and maybe the birth centre (MLU), due to inadequate staffing levels. We are usually told that this is "for safety reasons", or "to keep everyone safe". This is bullshit. Safe staff ratios, meaning the number of midwives who are available to support the number of birthing women and people, remain the same, no matter the birth location. If a safe ratio is one midwife per birthing woman in active labour, the location of that midwife doesn't change that requirement. So what we see instead is that hospital midwives are expected to care for more than one actively labouring woman, darting between rooms and potentially missing important changes. More reliance is made on looking at machines, including continuous monitoring (CTG printouts) than on midwifery skills, even though continuous monitoring has been shown over and over to cause harm and not reduce brain damage in babies (source: Dr Kirsten Small, search online for Birth Small Talk). This isn't keeping anyone safe (including staff!), but it's simply sharing resources (staff, aka humans who are unfairly being forced to work unsafely) more thinly. We also know that for many women and people, the evidence clearly shows that birth outside hospital is safer for themselves and their babies (source: Birthplace 2011 and others). It is simply disingenuous, no, an outright lie, to claim that closing these essential services is "for safety", especially for those for whom being in hospital has been clearly shown to be less safe. There is no doubt that staffing levels are beyond desperate, but this lie that it's about safety is not acceptable. We just push back and we must not accept this because it will lead to more permanent closures, rather than solutions to staffing being found. I am considering offering a workshop to go through how you can fight these closures, whether you're an expectant parent, doula or other activist. If you're interested, please comment! #doulauk #doulaworkshop #doula #birthactivism #birthactivist #birthactivists #pregnantuk #pregnancyjourney #midwifeleduni

I’ve seen the posts. A spectrum of praise and disillusionment. Midwives are people, they are also part of a system. A system historically built not with the experience and emotional well-being of pregnant people, their babies and families in mind. But midwives are and can be one of the vital connections between the risk adverse nature of modern medicine and the divine, individual experiences given to birth. Do we call out midwives who are causing pain and trauma? Hell yes! But we also need to lift up those who are battling to create difference and care for their patients. Otherwise those midwives will become even more burnt out and alone. So to every midwife striving against the system, challenging their peers and superiors and fighting to protect their patients, thank you, you are seen and you are valued. #dayofthemidwife #birth #birthactivists #birthuk #pregnancy

So often I hear women say "well, I've got to birth on delivery suite", or "I've been told I can't use the pool" or "I don't think I'm allowed to do that" etc etc... It's heart breaking. I always then say,.. "forgetting your risks or what you've been told... What do YOU want"? This is soooo important for women to ask themselves. And the answer can make all the difference to her pregnancy and birth. YOU ARE IN CONTROL! Not me, not any other midwife or doctor, YOU. Hey mama, I see you, endlessly scrolling and asking questions and losing sleep over which crib to buy. • It’s good to research. It’s good to be prepared. And I know it comes from a place of wanting to do the best for your baby. Of wanting to have the best birth possible. • But can I be honest for a second? There’s a reason midwives go to school for ten years. There’s a reason med school takes 4 years and doctors have to be in residency for up to 7. • It’s because there’s SO MUCH to know. It takes time to learn about every possible scenario that could happen during birth and how to handle it. • No matter how many blogs you read and how many birth accounts you follow you will 1) never know it all and 2) never be fully prepared. • And that’s okay. That’s why you have a birth team. • Crazy as this may sound, at some point you just need to put down your phone, close your eyes, and trust that your body and baby know what to do. • You have to trust that your birth team knows what they are doing and will do their best to help you. • I know it can be hard. It was hard for me. But when I finally just released myself to the process the stress left and I was able to embrace pregnancy and trust my body during birth. • It’s okay to not have all the answers, even in birth. 💕

There’s lots of different people out there giving you lots of different information. But it’s not all right or relevant for everyone, and not all of it is fully nuanced. For example, we’re constantly told not to lay on our backs giving birth. And for the majority of people that’s the correct advice. However a few people need to be led on their back, cause that’s the position their body needs them to be in in that moment, and constantly telling everyone not to without nuance, could then be harmful in itself if they don’t listen to their body for fear that it’s wrong. #birthprepinabox #nuance #birthprep #birthpreparation #pregnancyannouncement #pregnancylife #pregnancyjourney #pregnancytips #birthzone #birthanarchy #birthactivists #birthuk #doula #birthdoula #doulauk #hypnobirthing

Today I celebrated International Women’s Day with my two daughters, a Lion-Cub and a Rose-Bud, growing girls into a future of womenhood… and I started thinking about all the women before us that had given birth to our linage so we could be here right now. Eating ice cream with love heart sprinkles on them - (their idea to celebrate), talking about my grandmother, their great grandmother and how they think she has reincarnated as a unicorn🦄 I closed my eyes and tried to picture what birth must have been like for women going back centuries. And if it was a dangerous as I had been told by movies and stories then we probably wouldn’t be here as a species. Well, here we are with a huge thank you for all the women before us and that circle around us when times have been tough and those yet to come, may you know your worth (and your birth rights). ‘Women are POWERFUL beyond measure, Our innate birthing intelligence our hidden treasure’ #internationalwomensday #birthactivists #unicornreincarnation #ansestors #spokenwordpoet

Cervical checks are routinely given to new parents at the end of pregnancy and labor. They are pretty ingrained within birth culture for parents and aren’t often questioned. However, did you know that cervical checks truly don’t tell you all that much. Yes, you can use cervical exams to check dilation and effacement and also positioning. BUT, the information is only useful at that very MOMENT and is NOT useful as a method of the start of labor, or labor progression, etc.Your cervix is not a tell-all book, and things can change at any point, so from a clinical standpoint it isn’t all that useful. * * There are other options to figure out positioning as well. Fetal positioning can be examined externally by a provider with their hands on the birthing parent's abdomen. Cervical checks can also be uncomfortable and triggering for some, and you have every right to decline them if you choose to. But, if you’d like the information for that very moment then the choice is yours. It is nobody else but yours * * #cervicalchecks #pregnancy #doulawisdom #birthactivists #bodypositive #laboranddelivery #labor #parent #cervicalchecks delivery #pushing #evidencebased #babyboy #laboranddelivery #birthmatters #positivebirth #doulalife #labour #waterbirth #birthstory #momtobe #photography #birthisbeautiful #birthsupport #newbornphotography #mama #pregnant-belly #birthworker #pregnantlife #happybirthday

✨Swipe to see how my families feel✨ It’s not just about a healthy baby. Your experience matters. Your journey matters. Your feelings matter. One of the first things I discuss in our Hypnobirthing classes is exploring your feelings about labour and birth and then also looking at what your ideal birth looks like. Now, I cannot promise you a perfect birth or any particular type of birth (unfortunately I don’t have that kind of power). But what I do have is an abundance of knowledge and a toolkit full of positive ways to support your journey! Combine these together and you have a more prepared birth. When you feel more prepared, you feel calmer, more confident and in control. And ultimately that’s what you want to feel during the most important moment of your life- when you bring your baby Earthside. This is your moment- OWN IT! All our Hypnobirthing courses are available to book via link in bio. P.S. How amazing does Annie look as she’s bringing her beautiful daughter Delilah Earthside. Do you want to feel like the time you spend on your business is having a direct impact on your sales? Do you want to know exactly what your next steps are to make those goals happen? Don't worry - I'm not trying to sell you a power hour or anything. This is just one of the lovely comments in the group this week about the Get Into Gear mini business planning workshop from last week. It’s about an hour long and takes you through some mindset stuff but also some very clear action planning strategy advice to get you closer to where you want to be with your birth business. The feedback has been wonderful! Kudos to @milli.hill - listening to this in my rounds at the moment and wow…go girl! Whilst I myself might possibly fall into the hairy floaty dress category, I have experienced first hand the degradation and loss of voice in two highly medicalised births (both sections). I do wonder now whether I needed this and feel, like Milli, that had I have been empowered, informed, respected etc then my life and feelings about motherhood would be vastly different. The #metoo movement needs to gather momentum. Us women need to find our voices, our strength and stop going along with the doctors voice when it absolutely goes against our inner voice screaming out to be heard. Tell me your experiences - have you experienced #freebirth #naturalbirth #homebirth and how much opposition did you get? What about those of you who were medically #induced, #coerced or not listened to? Please share your stories to help us raise this movement. We are wild women. ❤️we deserve our voice to be heard. #birth #birthactivists #pregnant #pregnancy #motherhood #birthtrauma #waterbirth

A few years ago, I wrote to the CEO of the hospital in York (UK) to explain that the midwives were being told to commit criminal assault. Their new homebirth guidelines stated that unless women allowed the midwife to do a vaginal examination when the midwife attended a homebirth, the midwife must leave the woman's home and abandon her and her unborn baby. This meant that women and people who were birthing at home and who wanted a midwife had no option but to allow a VE to happen. This is NOT giving consent because, for consent to be legal, it must be given freely. Therefore, as the women and people weren't giving their legal consent for the examination, an accusation of criminal assault against the midwives was a possibility. I wrote about this in the AIMS Journal, and then wrote a follow up piece when the CEO agreed to change the policy. Original article: https://www.aims.org.uk/journal/item/york-homebirth Follow up article: https://www.aims.org.uk/journal/item/york-homebirth-update I thought that this would be the end of it - but sadly that wasn't to be. I have heard just a few days ago about this policy being back in place in several trusts across England. This is absolutely not ok. It MUST stop. Please post in the comments if it's happening in your trust. Read the second AIMS article listed above for a template letter than you can use to write to your own trust or health board's CEO to ask them to stop this abuse. If you'd like any support in doing this type of activism, drop me a DM. Don't forget, if you would like a one on one consultation with me to discuss your own birth rights question, my booking form is in the Link Tree in my bio. Want to support my work? Thank you so much ❤️❤️ You can donate to me via the link in my Link Tree in my bio. #birthactivists#birthactivist#birthactivism#empoweredbirth#doulauk#doulas#midwife#homebirth

Ask any mother about her births and she will remember what happened, even if she is a great-great-grandmother. Did you know, though, that the thing that makes the most difference to how a woman or birthing person feels about their birth is not actually what happened. It can be an emergency cesarean, a forceps delivery, a home birth, but if they feel respected, heard and in control then they are more likely to feel happy and positive about their birthing experience. You are the only person who has the right to say what happens to your body, and that includes during pregnancy and childbirth, and you always have a choice, even if it isn't presented to you that way. There is a myth floating around that people with birth plans are rigid and difficult. That they "don't understand" birth, that they aren't prepared for things to change in the birth room. This is simply not true. People with birth plans have educated themselves on their rights. They absolutely understand that things may need to change but what they want is to be an active participant in their birth. They know that they have a choice. A healthcare professional has no more right to stick their fingers in your vagina than you do to stick your fingers anywhere in their body. So what to do when a birth changes course and things need to happen? Find out how you can help yourself stay in control by reading the blog post in my bio 📝 #birthplan #doula #birthworker #birthactivists #birthwithoutfear #birthadvocate #birth #happybirth #beautifulbirth #consent #empoweredbirth #gentlebirth #millihill #givebirthlikeafeminist #humanrightsinchildbirth #birthrights #AIMS

You don't have to be induced unless you want to be. The decision is yours. If you decide to not be induced, you don't need to explain why or justify it to anyone because you don't need to persuade someone to not put drugs into your body. You don't need to convince your midwife or doctor to agree with your decision. You don't need to engage in a fight or argument. The only person who is allowed to decide whether or not you're induced is you. If you do change your mind you can easily book an induction with your midwife, if one has been offered. DM me for private consults or to be added to my mailing list letting you know the dates of the next Consent Workshop. #induction #inductionoflabour #inducinglabour #birth #40weekspregnant #41weekspregnant #42weekspregnant #43weekspregnant #gestationaldiabetes #birthuk #birthrights #birthactivists #birthactivist #doulauk #doula #doulalife #pregnantuk

It does say that women should be offered a discussion so that the risks and benefits of this type of birth can be explained. This is reasonable as for a woman or person to give their legal consent they need to have been given the information to make that decision. However, this must not be given in a coercive way. It’s good to know that at least in the UK, for now, we still retain these rights. Iatrogenic harm is harm caused by medical care. As childbirth is not a medical event, clearly - it has happened beautifully for many thousands of years before medical care existed - it is logical that we retain these rights. Medical care not having eradicated illness and death in childbirth and sometimes being found to be the cause of it means that, for some, unchoosing medical care is a very logical choice to make. Whether society likes it or not. Posted @withregram • @emma_ashworth_birth_rights In the UK all healthcare is offered, nothing is compulsory. Including having a midwife or doctor at your birth. If you'd prefer to birth without a midwife or doctor this is often called freebirth. Freebirth is legal in the UK. Freebirth is not, in itself, a legitimate safeguarding issue even though some Trusts and Health Boards may incorrectly class it as such. You can invite anyone to be with you at your freebirth other than uninsured midwives, so you can't have, say, your midwife sister with you to your birth unless she has insurance. Can your partner be with you throughout your birth, including early labour? Thank you to @itsallaboutfran for asking this question. Outside of Covid, yes. During Covid, hospitals have a duty of care to ensure that they minimise the risk of transmitting the virus. They also have a duty of care to provide safe and equitable services. They cannot simply say "because Covid" without there being a really good reason why they can't provide work arounds for people who aren't symptomatic. - If there's enough space to social distance, partners should be able to be there. - If there's the ability to do fast testing, negative testing partners should be able to be there. - In private rooms, partners should be able to be there. - People with disabilities must be supported to bring a partner if to deny one would breach that person's disability needs. - People who need an interpreter or translator must be supported to have the person of their choice in addition to their birth partner, if the service cannot be offered remotely, or by the hospital. You can challenge the hospital. Ask for their risk assessments and support documents for their policies and see if they seem to be reasonable. If not, you can challenge them! You CANNOT be forced to have a VE before your partner being allowed to join you because this is coercion and consent would not therefore be legally given. I don't and can't answer clinical questions but I can tell you what your rights are, and how to get them supported without a fight 🥰 #birthrights #birthactivists #birthactivist #birthchoices #birthchoicesmatter #birthcenters #pregnantuk #pregnancy #pregnancyuk #pregnancyconsent #pregnancyrights #midwife #doulalife #doulauk #doula #doulasupport #postnataldoula #birthdoula #doulasofinstagram #doulalove #doulawisdom #midwiferystudent #studentmidwife #birth #birthuk #birthtrauma #birthoptions #birthsafeathome #homebirthuk #waterbirth

Reposted from @doulaslingsally #Repost ///@emma_ashworth_birth_rights: The UK Government is asking women what they want to improve their health. This appears to be requesting feedback just from people who are AFAB but this is unclear, and may be something you wish to feed back. This is an opportunity to tell the Government what YOU want to see change and improve. I have written to them about obstetric violence. Tell me what you'd like to tell them in the comments, and then tell them on the consultation! You have until just before midnight on the 13 June.
