One way that micro schools are student centered is in the way teachers approach instruction. In traditional schools, instruction is often teacher centered. This means that the students are focused on the teacher who is lecturing (yes, even at the elementary school level). While most teachers do not like lecturing, especially in elementary school, in large classrooms it is difficult to get away from this. However, in small classrooms, teachers are able to shift to student centered instruction. Student centered instruction moves away from the teacher speaking at the students. Rather, in this model the teacher acts as a guide. While the teacher may provide general instructions for the class, the learning process is centered around students. Day #3 of the National Postpartum Awareness Week (PAW) Virtual Series will explore the challenges and benefits that BIPOC birthing people experience as they seek to nourish themselves and their babies during the #4thtrimester and beyond. BIPOC parents who choose to breast/chest feed are more likely to experience difficulties such as access to affordable and nutritious food, lack of workplace accommodations, toxic and pervasive stress, and a scarcity of reliable information, education and support. Additionally, people of color face a range of social and cultural barriers from negative perceptions about feeding their babies in public, to criticism of those who are unable to successfully breastfeed, or those who choose to formula feed. These pressures can significantly affect the mental, emotional, and physical health of the birthing person, creating complications that can have dire and long term implications on the wellbeing of the caregivers, their babies and families. It’s funny, when I see “parenting experts “ it’s usually a mother. But statistically speaking, the most well adjusted, emotionally healthy children are those who had a present, active and vocal father in their lives. I’m praying us as fathers, would heal from our children trauma’s rather from early exposure to seeing things, doing things, believing things that would leave lasting imprints in our consciousness that have colored and inform areas of our lives where we aren’t maximizing the call on our lives, so that we can boldly be more vocal and more intentional and win with either hand. We’re not glorified babysitters, we are vision casters, bar setters, self-image molders & confidence builders. God called us to be living GPS for our children. Godly positional systems that helps them navigate to knowing the goodness, love and truth about him. Capital City Chapter! @jackandjillinc @capitalcityjackandjill For me, this decision represents so much more than just becoming a member of an organization. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in my family’s journey—a chapter filled with service, empowerment, more meaningful connections and an investment for Arley & Axel. Growing up I had several friends in JJOA and from a far seeing them connect with others and hearing about the Teen Conference I knew it was something I wanted for my children. The true reality check came when we moved from inner city Charlotte to the suburbs of Raleigh. @antmoore1911 and I learned very quickly it was imperative to build a community fast with Arley being the only brown girl in her class at pre-school. That was 3yrs ago and she’s still the only black cutie in her class at a different school. Needless to say, we needed to cultivate a community for Arley and Axel that we knew would support us in raising our babies. Through the years I have gotten to know the most extraordinary moms of the @capitalcityjackandjill chapter. I have already taken so many gems of parenting, motherhood, wife duties and just being a woman and friend, from them; I am so grateful to have them as my community. The connections are lifelong friendships, we’re in it for the long haul 😂.
