Picea mariana ‘Edelweiss Weeping’ is entering its second spring in my garden, and appears to be quite happy. I don’t know why this species isn’t grown more in this area. Also known as black spruce, bog spruce, and swamp spruce, this tree is native to northern North America and found widespread throughout all of Canada. For this reason, I’m sure most people think it will not grow here. I have three different cultivars, and my oldest one is now entering its 7th summer here in middle Tennessee, and looks as healthy as any tree in my yard. This winter there has not been nearly enough time on skis or out in the woods. Did someone say Black Spruce plantation?? The PRF has one of the most beautiful Sb plantations; how amazing is that moss carpet?! Black Spruce, Picea mariana, are typically found in wet organic lands. It is the official tree for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. With their shallow root system, they are quite a bit more susceptible to windthrow. They do have semi-serotinous cones, which will readily seed after a fire causing natural spruce stands to be even-aged. "Realized Potential" is a 12" x 36" canvas that tells the story of a magical hypnosis session I had recently! There were many insights and gifts from this almost 2 hour session with the mystical Amiee Kelly at Emerald Rose Healing. I started by connecting with and meeting my Higher Self. The initial moments of connections were delicate. She showed me how much it hurt us both to be denied for 40+ years. She explained that when I get those "pings" that I swallow down and refuse to listen to - that is her. She is my inner guidance. She is my intuition. And friends, I have NOT been nice to that inner voice. Often, in the past, when I would feel something bubble up, or my intuition scratching at my guts, I would repress. I would tell myself, "you are just being ridiculous". I was literally slapping my higher self in the face each time. No. More. We are flipping the script. When I want to tell myself I am just being "ridiculous", I will switch that to, I am just being Authentic. No more ridiculous in my vocabulary!
