There were a lot of special moments from the in-person artisan market I participated in last night (I’ll share more of those in my Stories) but there were three or four significant interactions that all surrounded around one candle and one person: AYA. The AYA candle is named and scented after my paternal grandmother. In my memories of her, I think of her as strong and stern, always steady and protective but I also knew that she loved me fiercely. She was revered by everyone and still is. The very first person that I interacted with at this event picked up the AYA candle and the MARIA candle, not knowing that they both represented my grandmothers. Another person a few minutes later picked up AYA and NEPA, the candle scented after the memory of Aya’s house, and said that their paternal grandmother had recently passed away and was on her heart. A third person picked up AYA and after I told them who it was in honor of, they said they’d walked up to me with their grandmother in mind. I mentioned this a few times last night but it feels like it’s worth repeating; I know that the candles and stories that I’ve created are deeply personal and specific to my family and culture, but I share those experiences and memories with the hope that they connect to anyone and everyone possible. Maybe it’s through your grandparents or a person that has loved you well. Maybe it’s your sister or sibling or someone who has passed on. Maybe it’s a place that you grew up visiting that you can close your eyes and see, hear, or smell. Maybe it’s the moment that you finally felt comfortable in your own skin and celebrated exactly who you are. There’s no greater honor than meeting you through my memories of those people, places and feelings, and I can’t thank you enough for meeting me in that vulnerable space (as strangers!) to tell me how what I’ve shared relates to you, too. Aya, I hope you’re watching and know how much you are loved by everyone who has grown to know you through your love for me. 🩵

The worm bite has been treating me well when searching for better bites. I have been using the free rig as my go to. Now, some people think you just fish it like a Texas rig but that’s not even close. Texas rig does not allow your lure to have free range of motion and has way less action while descending. When you make your cast in deeper water you should allow your weight to have separation from your bait. Trick is to have light weight and a big enough lure where buoyancy can really get the fishes eyes glued. "My to-do-list is full" is what I texted my friend this morning. The plan was to start into the Sunday with a burst of energy l, write my newsletter, finalize the presentation for Wednesday's Women Conference, go grocery shopping, pull weeds, go for 2 big walks and do laundry. CONFIDENCE Believe it or not, I’ve never been a confident person… In fact I’d go as far to say that one of the main reasons I first started training 36 years ago, was because I hated who I was and how I looked, and I wanted to be different. Even now, I can be shy and withdrawn in the company of strangers… When I see people looking at me, I wonder what they are thinking, or why they are talking about me. I automatically fear the worst. I grew up during an era where having muscle was just weird - people pointed and mocked - and weren’t afraid to voice their opinions - especially with copious amounts of alcohol on board. I’ve had many a night out with my friends ruined by inconsiderate pr*cks who couldn’t keep their opinions to themselves. My skin grew thick, and, of course, times have changed… Nowadays it’s more acceptable to be who you want to be. It’s actually encouraged to be unique and quirky rather than just fit in like everyone else - and of course both men and women now want to look great - and muscle is considered mainstream. Ironically some of those people that used to mock me - now come to me for advice - isn’t it funny how times change. 😏 Public speaking has definitely helped… Standing in front of large groups of people, and having the opportunity to educate on health, fitness and physique related matters, has made me much more confident and happier with the person I have become. Have the confidence to live the life you want to live - with no regrets. Have the confidence to blaze your own trail and follow your own guiding light. Have the confidence to believe in yourself when others try to slow you down or make you turn back. Here is why this love note brought tears ... To be honest, I don't believe I'm good or effective at many things. Hear me out. In school, my grades were average. Biology or math classes were just not for me (to say it lightly). My grammar, especially in English - quite frankly - sucked. (Perhaps this should be present tense🙃.) I always looked left and right, tried to fit into the mold of societal expectations. The fear of being talked about negatively was too daunting. Even when I had ideas, my arm would not rise because the thought of being wrong was pure horror. To this day, I have the hardest time answering the traditional marketing statement "I help WHO with WHAT by doing THIS." Yes, I got my SHRM-CP because I wanted to make a difference as an HR leader. Yes I am a certified life & leadership coach through one of the best coaching schools (I think) are out there. All that to say that the only true superpower and skill I have, and I believe is my life purpose, it's why the universe put me here, is that I truly carry this unwavering belief in people's potential in my heart. And I (try) to not let a day go by that I'm not expressing this belief to the people I'm with. Whenever people pick up on that, it moves me deeply. Because all my life I craved this human need to be seen. If I had to attempt to put this in a marketing statement it probably sounds like this: I help people (one awesome individual at a time) to see their unique and authentic potential, and find multiple opportunities to act upon it; to make it visible in this world. ❤️ It's true, I believe in you long before you believe in yourself. Honored moment for me to represent in a solid way. When I say I’m honored, I really mean that. My fishing background doesn’t consist of catching these types every single trip. I don’t have this big compelling background of fishing knowledge to remotely call myself anything more than a guy who truly just fishes in the moment when the opportunity has presented itself. The last past two years is where I truly felt like I started to fish more and try to adapt through the seasons and techniques. Soft plastic worm fishing is where it all started for me as a kid and to be able to pick up my favorite gear and continue to catch them on this fake worm is beyond me. There is something special about fishing with the unknown and authentic feel as nature absorbs your thoughts. The worm bite will always be my number one go to bait as it’s what I know best and it’s what I’m comfortable with. I have taken the time to start my YouTube channel and pump out these “Mini Movie” series for your guys. I’m not comfortable talking to the camera as I’m fishing.
