Day Six with Debbie and Tony of Florida. The day started with breakfast at the hotel and some singing with our private driver on the way to Pompeii. It was a day to remember we walked the ruins of Pompeii in the late morning early afternoon, taking in all the stories and history. We then met another driver to take us to @cantina_del_vesuvio_winery for a tour wine tasting and lunch. As always, the food was great and the wine was fantastic. We took advantage of all the beautiful photo opportunities available at the winery. Cantina del Vesuvio is an absolutely fabulous artisan winery we have been working with for years and we had the chance to stop in for lunch. The grapes here are literally harvested on the volcano. As in Sicily’s fashionable Mount Etna wine country, Campania’s Mount Vesuvio is a unique winemaking area, with ungrafted vines and very rich and fertile volcanic soils, appreciated since ancient times. The cuisine here at their very popular restaurant is honest and earthy with simple but wholesome Mediterranean ingredients. Sensing a theme here… another winery, this time at the foot of Mount Vesuvius 🌋 The views were incredible! We had a delicious lunch and a wine tasting. My favorite was the rosé (first pic). The olive oil was also top notch. Overall the wine is better in Tuscany, but this was a fun and scenic spot with great food, and, a cat 🐈!

Day sixteen with Janet and Zach in Italy and Day four with Janet and Karl. It was up early to meet Fabio and beat the heat in Pompeii, we spent a few hours discovering the ancient city. Then off to @cantina_del_vesuvio_winery for a tour wine tasting and lunch. Fabio @lianzanccnapoli brought us safely back to our hotel, and we said "Ciao" for now! Post Mt. Vesuvius hike wine tasting. Cantina del Vesuvio Winery. We did some food pairing with their wines, which increased my wine snobbery. Delicious rosés, whites, a couple reds, a dessert wine, and an apricot liqueur. Our private tour driver, Pippo, treated us to a scenic limoncello slushy overlooking Sorrento. Fun fact: the local wineries on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius make wine called Lacryma Cristi, or “Christ’s tear”. We were told that Christ came to the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius and was in awe of the beauty of the land, with the island of Capri in the distance, Mt. Vesuvius behind him, and he started crying and his tears fertilized the soil, which is why the wineries are so successful there.
